Great line-ups - but - I don't see any of those as "opening" for the others. Are the pairings both getting equal stage time and lights, stage sets etc? All those "openers" have been a big draw in their own rights. Maiden could easily headline a slot I'm sure - they tour regularly and I think it's a case of AC/DC and G'n'R making rare live appearances - so there's a demand there ("in case they don't come round again"). I saw Alice Cooper "open" for Motley Crue a few years ago - but I saw it as being Special Guest - a decent length set and they let him use all the toys he has in his own show. Enjoy Power Trip

Only £25 for a "name band" which is rare these days.

Nick Mason's saucerful of secrets last week. It was jolly good fun. Very civilised. Did you manage to stay the whole show? As a Floyd fan this is a really difficult album to listen and enjoy through its entirety.

Some Saucerful of secrets songs are in the set but it's not a straightforward performance of it.

It seems like the New Century Hall is beginning to get the recognition it deserves, somebody I know went there earlier in the week and the gig was seated!
I had no idea that this was even an option there.

One of my top 5 live bands so definitely worth keeping an eye out for a ticket. Victoria Warehouse is fucking awful when it's sold out. Went to a Warehouse Project night there and it was dangerously oversold, horrendous experience. That said I am considering it for Friendly Fires in November which isn't looking like a sell out and should be a cheap ticket knocking about. Not far from me which helps. New Order/Confidence Man tomorrow at Leeds arena. Really can't be arsed at the moment but should be a good show if I get my shit together.

POWER TRIP DAY 1
last night was the worst experience i've ever had seeing a concert. i will NEVER go to another festival as long as i live. it was more money to see a SHORTER guns n' roses set with the added bonus of seeing iron maiden, one of the worst live bands i've ever been subjected to. iron maiden was legitimately the worst fucking thing i have ever heard. it hardly qualified as music. i'm pretty sure that torture is illegal so someone should open an investigation into whoever booked them. the opening song was called "Caught Somewhere In Time", and he kept repeating that time was always on his side. well, time might be but musical talent is not on your side. i ended up walking out of the performance area during the second song while reevaluating my decision to attend as it was over 37° with ZERO other stages to go watch while waiting for Axl and Dizzy to take the stage. i decided to go get food and got a hamburger at grill em all, which was the only part of the festival before 9:25 that i enjoyed. i played on my phone for the next two hours as i waited for the end of the maiden set.
then it was time for GN'R. i have no complaints about this part of the evening. to start, i loved that they played Silkworms but not Perhaps. they played 29 songs and i had a really great time. loved seeing the deep cuts again, and Axl sounded amazing. i also enjoyed being on the lawn and getting to see the full stage for the first time in my 26 GN'R show career. Axl wasnt as talkative as he was in San Diego but he was energetic and raspy. the visuals were dope tho, and as always, Axl, Dizzy, Richard, Frank, Duff, and Melissa put on an excellent performance.
from the time this show was announced to me going in, i was sure i'd be miserable for hours in exchange for a 75-90 minute Guns set, so i was pleasantly surprised we got nearly a full length show. only 1 song difference, and still the 3 hour beast set. maiden combined with the heat, however, was worse than i planned on. finally, i'd like to say the merch designs were all awful and very expensive but the food wasn't outrageous considering where we were. i also decided to get sunburned rather than spend $40 on a baseball cap. since there was no re-entry, power trip is essentially a hostage situation.

Mate just to confirm, you are saying you will never go to another festival again because you didn't like Iron Maiden and the designs of the merch was poor and expensive?

For myself I thought Maiden were superb on this tour and I'd have been out the gate after a few GnR songs personally as loathe them but 37 degrees is a bit beyond the pale for me. Hope the other days are more to your taste mate

I went and I thought they were brilliant. It's only the second time that I have seen them, the first at Heaton Park 2 years ago and was not impressed at all but last night they were something different. In regards to the Victoria Warehouse, I have seen Kasabian and Fontaines DC in the past 12 months play their. Crap experience watching Kasabian because it was too busy but learnt my lesson when I went back for Fontaines and got on the balcony which was great. I'm due back at the Victoria Warehouse for the Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets, Stereo MCs gig

I did, and funnily enough the only other time I've seen them was at Heaton Park as well. Thought they were great at both gigs but they were on another level last night. Sound and visuals were great. Crowd were flat for Confidence Man. Seen em a few times and they've always got the crowd going nuts. One of the older crowds I've been in which probably didn't help. First time at the Leeds arena. Miles better than Manchester for gigs. £8.50 for a pint is taking the absolute piss though.

Well Level 42 were excellent as always.
However must give a special mention to the Christians who were supporting them, cos they deserve to be touring on there own. I had forgotten what a good catalogue of hits they had and Gary Christian was very amusing between songs.
