Supergrass tonight at Sugarmill - brilliant I've just got home from that. Awesome like you say. Gaz Coombes doesn't seem to have aged a day since 1996. Danny Goffey however now resembles an AI mash-up of Sly Stallone, Paul McCartney and Angela Lansbury 🙈

Off to Download on Saturday for Maiden, Shinedown and Mastodon. Oddly quite an underwhelming lineup over the weekend , and alot of filler to fill 3 days and multiple stages. Way preferred the 80s model of single day, single stage and 6-7 absolute top drawer bands. But times change and I'm apparently a dinosaur lol. So looking forward to it, weather doesn't look shabby and I've loved Iron Maiden since I was 11 and always a cracking show.

I was offered a Supergrass ticket and couldn't turn it down even though this week was supposed to be a rest from gigs. They were pretty good I thought, probably the best I've seen them, and I can't believe the last time was 12 years ago - a 2-hour set compared to last night's 1-hour. A nice way for them to make a few £k between supporting The Killers.

Download Saturday was alright, really not a stellar lineup this year, but Iron Maiden as consistent and on form as ever, albeit a setlist that seemed to to have either been put in order by a 6 year old or via a raffle system. To paraphrase Eric Morecambe , it had all the right songs but not necessarily in the right order! Was going with teenage daughter but as she didn't feel well on the day, went alone and met a longstanding gig friend and were there from 12pm, effectively for the VFM from over £100 a ticket. Sound quality was pretty shocking actually , their overspill drainage from the urinals consisted of pretty much a 'natural soakaway' effect aka a quagmire of piss. But the sun mainly shone, Shinedown were excellent,Mastodon sounded like sludge sadly, Megadeth were very good and Maiden to top off. Seems like half the crowd ate there solely cos it's Download and to get hammered as quickly as they can, and thus atmosphere anywhere other than front of stage was a bit crap, I only ventured down front for Shinedown, seen the Maiden stage set for this tour 4 times previously so happy to watch via screen and a sharp exit for the shuttle bus to where I'd parked. Download really seems to struggle with the ever decreasing pool of big enough headliners and not sure I'd go again, may stick to smaller fests like Steelhouse or Stonedead in duties .
And didn't put suncream on so with the reactolite glasses I now look like a panda in reverse when I take them off..oh well, closer to home tonight and Noel Gallagher at Cannock Chase..make a change from my usual dogging trip though.

Killers smashed it last night at Old Trafford cricket ground. Including a cover of Shadowplay by Joy Division. Having seen Blossoms at Keele uni and Viccy Hall must say I was quite underwhelmed by them as support act. Possibly too big for them .

Noel Gallagher at Cannock was very good, albeit a picnic chair audience, took wife and kids and NG on good form, I don't dislike the HF Birds stuff and first half was all that. He's very self deprecating and banter was good , slagged off Stoke, some footy talk, ripping piss out of the bucket hats on show and a sly dig at "bet you got that at Knebworth" to one guy down front. And then an 8-9 run of Oasis to end, sound was bang on too so thoroughly enjoyed. And my two girls loved it, bit of a "can't believe we're seeing Oasis songs sung by one of them" . Funny vibe as had to explain to youngest why you won't get some of the more "Liam songs" but she clicked to it. And home by 1115,can't argue with that . Day off today and thank god for that , everything bloody hurts lol

I'm not feeling them at all and glad that Tom is now touring himself. See your point and I can't get too excited by them now, Serge is an irritating sod, hugely talented but doesn't he want you to know it. Always felt Tom blunted that edge on him and they were always a quandary to me personally, I'd buy the records but not hugely into them but crikey were they good live. Clearly Tom was a proper twat and got punished for it and rightly so, but Kasabian minus him is of limited interest,to me at least

Cool, I must remember to take a CD for signing on Saturday. I bought a double CD + DVD of File Under: Easy Listening from Music Mania in Hanley on Saturday, but maybe I'll take something that's a smaller package. His band are one of the loudest I've seen, so solo electric will be a different experience. It's good to see some other Mould fans here! Some of his solo stuff is great too. I especially like the Silver Age album. I'm not a big Husker Du fan thanks to the production, which buries a lot of good songs.

If you hang around inside the venue for around 15 minutes or so, he comes out for autographs and photos. It was when he formed Sugar and released Copper Blue that got me hooked into Bob Mould. I think i saw him 4 times when he toured the UK with the album 30 years ago

Just watched Crowded House in Birmingham on Tuesday. Been one of my favourite bands for a long time - Neil Finn is an awesome songwriter. Had his son Liam playing with him too.
Was a bit worried his voice might not be so good as he gets older, but he was brilliant. Did not disappoint - fantastic!

Ed Byrne last night at Crewe Lyceum, never been to this theatre before and I was very impressed, lovely little place, loads of character. First time I've seen Ed Byrne, pretty good, didn't have me rolling around helpless but plenty of laughs. Trains back were a pain, the last one doesn't give much time between the end of the show and it's departure and even then you have to go via Stafford to get to Stoke

Robbie Williams @ vale park, despite not being a fan (honest!) I thought I’d give it a go in the name of local heritage and he didn’t disappoint. Lots of local references in between songs (Bozlem, Tunstall, the Vale, the red lion, Shelley’s etc) and didn’t display the usual arrogance, I think he knows Stokies don’t appreciate arrogance so he kept it real - nice one!! 👍🏻👏🏻

Interested to know what you made of Ride?

Done two gigs in one night this evening down in that London.
First was Antipodean psyche exponents Pond (Tame Impala side project) at Electric Ballroom Camden, then Uber'd it across town (on the promoter's expense account, obvs) to catch Stephen Fretwell in the sumptuous setting of St. Magdalen Church in North London.
Pond were ace but the what a pleasant surprise Fretwell turned out being.
Didn't really know much of him other than that the theme to 'Gavin & Stacey' is one of his tunes, plus solo acoustic singer songwriters are not really my bag (give me Orbital, Underworld, Depeche Mode and/or New Order any day over an earnest noodler).
That said however, his performance was truly mesmeric - to pull that off in front of 300+ people and have them sat beguiled in silence anticipating every note and lyrical vignette, just as one self-deprecating bloke with a battered acoustic guitar, was really something to behold.
Hat's off to you Mr Fretwell - you've gained a new fan tonight 👍

They blew me away from the off when they opened with with Seagull. Got to say I was very surprised with how good Noel Gallagher was the other night. I thought I was in the Liam camp, if you have to choose sides that is, but Noel is good. No idea why I would think otherwise and I'm looking forward to seeing him again next weekend at Glastonbury

Not my last gig but just watching Kasabian at Isle of Wight on Sky arts. It's like watching a tribute band. Without Tom they aren't the same band.
