You did well to find that. What a mess for a country like liberal France to get itself into. You can only push the French so far and murdering journalists and teachers is not going to sit well with them.

I have always wondered how nations balance their animal rights law v their freedom to practice religion laws. I am not a religious man and, in the event of any conflict in wording, believe non-religious clauses should prevail. I have no problem with people practising their faith as long as it does not impact others. I am not sure if this actually happens, but changing long established laws to satisfy people's faith requirements is not something I generally agree with. I also think we should get rid of faith schools in the UK. That includes all the RC and CoE ones. The education system would be so much simpler if people of all faiths were taught together. I appreciate that my view is very simplistic and the chances of this happening are slim to none.

One thing that the the French do excel at is.......... putting France first. They just don't make it explicit, it's just the accepted norm. Not questioned as a general rule. Mind you the Germans are pretty good at putting Germany first, just quietly getting on with doing so. The Polish and Hungarians have a lot of national pride. I think Australia, New Zealand and Saudi Arabia are assertive in their own interests as well. Most countries are. It seems that in the UK and perhaps America some, a minority, of our citizens don't like the concept.
