Is this the inevitable consequence of cultural clash/ parallel communities/separatism? .............. PARIS: French authorities will inspect dozens of mosques and prayer halls suspected of radical teachings starting on Thursday (Dec 3) as part of a crackdown on extremists following a spate of attacks, Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said. Darmanin told RTL radio that if any of the 76 prayer halls inspected was found to promote extremism they would be closed down. On Twitter on Wednesday he said the mosques were suspected of "separatism" - a term President Emmanuel Macron has used to describe ultraconservative Muslims closing themselves off from French society by, for example, enrolling their children in underground Islamic schools or forcing young girls to wear the Muslim headscarf France targets mosques in crackdown on radical Islam - CNA www.channelnewsasia.com/news/world/france-targets-mosques-in-crackdown-on-radical-islam-13694350............. Nov 23, 2020 Tangier – France’s Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin has said that French law will soon condemn those who speak out against caricatures deemed insulting to Islam. Foreigners who do so will also be subject to deportation, he underlined. He added: “And a judge will be able to say, if you are foreigners and you are condemned to this offense, you will leave the national territory.” Macron condemned the September stabbing and stressed that France must put an end to “Islamist separatism.” Two days after the heinous murder of Paty, the French interior minister vowed to crack down on individuals and organizations considered “enemies to the republic.” French media outlets reported on October 18 that Darmanin called for an acceleration of a deportation program, targeting 231 irregular migrants who allegedly hold “extremist beliefs.” The crackdown on Islamic NGOs began on October 19. The interior minister initially announced that state services will visit 51 associative structures. France to Deport Foreigners Who Condemn Caricatures Offensive to Islam www.moroccoworldnews.com/2020/11/326857/france-to-deport-foreigners-who-condemn-caricatures-offensive-to-islam/Whilst we in the UK are debating the deportation of criminals The irony being that the inevitable attacks that follow this purge will prove Macron's point more than anything. I agree , I'm afraid that this is the perpetual situation that Western tolerant politicians have got Western countries into. There has been little thought, attempt or authority on what "integration" and "inclusion" really means. Ultimately it cannot mean that the host nation ( and I have no problem determining " how far are we going back?" to determine " host"....some might want to debate that academically) has to accept and change its basic , accepted principles in order to accommodate minority beliefs. There also has to be acceptance by the emerging communities. And that is a separate issue from racism/ discrimination.

If Erdogan is playing populist politics and whipping Islamic countries up into a frenzy with his speeches- and we saw another attack on French soil days after his comments- no one should be remotely surprised when Macron fights fire with fire. Macron always struck me as more left wing than right- didn't he once say that "there is no such thing as French culture"- but I guess numerous attacks on home soil by people you've given refuge to might make you reconsider...

The French are ok. They gave us that glass pointy buiding, their version of the Blackpool Tower, Vanessa Paradis and probably a few other things that don't spring to mind. They can keep their onions, garlic and Mr Bean's Holiday though.

Ah, the ever emotive andouillette ! It's absolutely disgusting, smells horrible, looks horrible, has a disgusting texture, and actually tastes far, far worse than you'd imagine, and the French call it a "delicacy" ! Snails and frogs legs are another couple of ones to swerve, together with foie gras. Apart from that most other French food is fine. It's a bit cliched, but when eating an evening meal in France I love French Onion Soup, Beef Bourguignon, Tarte Aux Pommes, and some French cheese - I've been to the Auvergne due to work many, many times so I tend to prefer their cheeses, such as Saint Nectaire, Cantal, Bleu d'Auvergne, and sometimes Fourme d'Ambert.

Bouillabaise has to be the most hideous food creation. fish broth is bad enough but to lace it with garlic, weirdos. The first time i saw a McFlurry was in Nice so they do have some fine food creations. Mr Hulot's Holiday and Subway were good films, give them that one.

Spot on with the cheeses mate , however i will take issue with foie gras . If you put to one side the ethics of its production its a glorious thing . Either as a pate of just pan fried 😋

The last time was at a restaurant in Bourges about 15 years ago, and I only ate about a quarter of it, and our paths have fortunately never crossed since then.

Wonderful region. 👍👌 Saint - Emilion is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been too . harry I remember getting rather way layed at the Maison du Vin and the monastery that made a particularly good champagne. Oh and the restaurants of course. In fact the whole area, Pomerol to Bergerac is just great.
