I love his interviews.
There is a steely determination behind that self-effacing modesty.
It's impossible not to like him.

Alex Ferguson talking about Joe Allen "What a player he is"
Reckons he out played Ramsey and Bale at the Euro's, which is saying something.

He is the antithesis to the popular view of the modern Premier League player, he is understated and then some and none of it is put on, I love this guy!

If it's a competition in 'groundedness' then I'd pitch Diouf, Adam and Ryan straight in there too. I love Joe Allen, my own personal jesus etc. Hope we're starting to see a more focused Joe, the rest of the team joining in etc. ![(thumbsup)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/q4Mqf5MqRwT9PY8UitYa.gif)

"I'm delighted Joe Allen is grabbing some of the headlines at Stoke.
He was one of the players I thought never threw the towel in under Mark Hughes and he strikes me as a model professional in every sense. Against Huddersfield, under difficult circumstances, he proved it.
A new manager, and more attention than usual, is not the ideal preparation for a must-win game. However, win it Stoke did - and with a performance built on true grit.
We know Paul Lambert was not the club's first choice as manager, but if you can get a response from the players that signifies they are prepared to fight and battle then you can be the 31st choice for all I care.
Allen covers the ground as well as any midfield player in the country and is starting to score the goals his performances deserve.
This was a well-deserved win for the Potters, Allen and Lambert in particular. Well done boys."
Garth Crooks liked it!

Imagine how much better he’s going to be now he has a coach that tells him what he’s supposed to do?

A refreshing change from many international footballers.

When I met him he seemed to be a shy and modest young man. A refreshing change from many international footballers. Thinking about it, most of the present Stoke players are understated and well spoken, in particular Shawcross, Allen, Choupo, BMI, Adam, Pieters, and Butland always seem modest and articulate. Choupo’s English is excellent and very well mannered - I recall reading that Stoke got him on a free contract because his father, who is also his agent, expects him to keep up his side of the agreement and play through his contract. Diouf is very decent bloke; however, I can’t ever recall him being interviewed. Maybe he’s very shy. Edit: I forget Crouchie - he is also has a great sense of humor.

Joe Allen is grounded, except when twats like Deeney grab him by the face and lift him a foot off the ground. ![](http://www.watfordlondon.uk/watfordfc/Troy-Deeney-grabbing-Joe-Allen.jpg)

Allo is ace. He just gets on with it. His energy an asset to any team. I was surprised a while ago when there seemed to be a thing amongst some of us that he wasn't much good.
One point that has to be made however is his best position should be holding midfielder. This involves being in position to fill spaces and initiate attacks and be aware of the game from deep areas and knowing when to make effective runs forward. In this respect his powerhouse box to box showings can actually be a form of indiscipline.
If we stay up it'd be good if Lambo and his staff work with him to encourage him to play the holding role with vision and maturity.

And if he can develop an understanding where they each know when to break forward and support the attack (like Lampard and Gerrard never did for England) it could be good for us all.

Garths team of the week is the most attacking I’ve ever seen, 1 CB and 2 wing backs, Allen is the closest thing to a midfielder - the other 3 are very attacking, and 3 strikers!

He's a class professional, great attitude on & off the pitch, great skills, great team spirit. At times when a club's in trouble he's Exactly the kind of player & personality that you need. And by that example I'm sure he encourages others. I'd say he's vital to Stoke's success. Lucky to have him !
