Not bad for a Dean Whitehead clone ay ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/KYqg3pYeaerc5lD_P7BR.gif) Indeed. Massively improved on last seasons Dean Whitehead impression of last season for sure. He looks much better playing in the role Hughes bought him for but rarely played him in, right of Centre in the middle 4 in a 4-1-4-1. Makes the failure to sign a CDM even more strange

Makes the failure to sign a CDM even more strange I honestly think Hughes saw him as a Whelan replacement. Obviously doesnt have the discipline, which is confusing because he has it for Wales.

"I'm delighted Joe Allen is grabbing some of the headlines at Stoke. He was one of the players I thought never threw the towel in under Mark Hughes and he strikes me as a model professional in every sense. Against Huddersfield, under difficult circumstances, he proved it. A new manager, and more attention than usual, is not the ideal preparation for a must-win game. However, win it Stoke did - and with a performance built on true grit. We know Paul Lambert was not the club's first choice as manager, but if you can get a response from the players that signifies they are prepared to fight and battle then you can be the 31st choice for all I care. Allen covers the ground as well as any midfield player in the country and is starting to score the goals his performances deserve. This was a well-deserved win for the Potters, Allen and Lambert in particular. Well done boys." Garth Crooks liked it! Garths team of the week is the most attacking I’ve ever seen, 1 CB and 2 wing backs, Allen is the closest thing to a midfielder - the other 3 are very attacking, and 3 strikers! Just goes to show what a dimwit Crooks is.

A fully committed player is our Joe.......seems straight up in his interviews too. He's a credit to the club.

Impossible not to like him? I'm not really a fan of him to be honest. Why not? Depends if you have a clue about football. As others have said, he was superb on Saturday, his sprinting, effort, and cool finish gave us our first goal. Not for the first time this season either. Who do you like (Stoke player that is).

I remember when everyone was going crazy about him in his Swansea days and in truth, I just didn't get it. Always viewed him as a crab like Karl Henry sideways only passer. I'm so glad I was proven massively wrong. He's easily my player of the season so far as one of the only players who seemingly always puts in a shift and makes things happen. Top lad, top player.

Just watched the second half again this morning. He wasn't half motoring during the build up to the second goal. If he had wings, he'd have taken off..

He's not as good as people make him out to be. I like Shaqiri, Choupo, Stafy, Butland, Indi, Muniesa.

A lot has been said about Hughes’ failings in the transfer market but the success of bringing Joe Allen to this club forgives him an awful lot in my book. I dread the lad getting injured.

If it's a competition in 'groundedness' then I'd pitch Diouf, Adam and Ryan straight in there too. I love Joe Allen, my own personal jesus etc. Hope we're starting to see a more focused Joe, the rest of the team joining in etc. ![(thumbsup)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/q4Mqf5MqRwT9PY8UitYa.gif) I think we could have an instrumental chant for Joe. Which is simply, doing a "de de der der der der... der der de de de der!" a la the theme tune. Joe 90 theme tune in the psychobilly/mod/60s room at The Place in the late 80s. Memories of that place I shall keep to myself.

I remember the buzz when Glen Johnson arrived. I was devastated when we signing Johnson after I spent years hurling abuse at him in an England shirt but he surprised me and played well for a while. In fact, I think everybody thought he was a good signing until his injury at Bournemouth. If that never happened his legs might not have abandoned him so quickly.

Earlier in the season I thought Diouf was going to walk away with the player of the season awards due to the effort and commitment he shows whenever he plays.
Allen has shown just as much though and is one of only a few players inthat can truly hold their head up over their performances under the bad times under Hughes tenure.
