My biggest worry regardless of what happens to the incumbent manager is that the answer is 'No'!
I don't think this team would thrive in the Championship, the tactics are irrelevant , the squad building has all gone wrong, the players are plain and simple not good enough!

I genuinely think we have good players at the club. Problem is we need some pace, organisation and steel adding to it.
Our next manager needs to be a real nasty bugger to shake them all up. Does Diego Simeone have a twin brother?

Organise them properly and there's enough quality to stay up IF we add 2 or 3 decent players in January.
Butland is a good keeper- saved us from a 5 or 6 goal hammering today.
Zouma's a top 6 defender. Shawcross isn't the player he was but still just about OK.
Allen's been really good this year.
Shaqiri's quality.
We need someone in who'll play a formation that suits the players and not do things like spend £18m on Kevin fucking Wimmer.

I honestly don't think we have good players anymore, not enough of them anyway, and not as good as our competitors, the team building strategy has gone wrong. Once again, the tactics are a side show.

It's possible that a new manager could turn things around but he will need to be backed significantly in the January window and I doubt whether Coates will do that.

I think our squad is perfectly capable of being mid table. Our choice of centre backs and goalkeepers is pretty damn good on paper, Allen/Shaqiri both very good players, Pieters/Cameron/Saido/Choupo/Ramadan/Diouf all good players. We are not one of the worst 3 squads in the league by any stretch of the imagination.

We all have rose tinted glasses on regarding our players, brutal truth is many are champs level. The four you mentioned are nowhere near enough to carry the rest. Some irony that 3 of those four will likely be gone in the summer. |

He won't get sacked and it's clear that Coates is in it in terms of responsibility just as much as Hughes is.
Now the fans have to get behind the boys on the pitch because we won't be getting a new manager and we won't be getting any serious money in January. In fact I fully expect us to lose a couple as the cry of "Man the Lifeboats" goes up.
It really is backs to the wall time, we need the players to give everything they have despite the handicap they are saddled with.
You reap what you sow and we haven't sown much for year after year, with luck we will sell Imbula and get a few quid for Hughes to piss up the wall again.

We have 3 truly Premier League quality players - Shaq, Butland and Allen - that's it. Lose any or God forbid all and we are a very mediocre Championship side. I fear the worst here unless we get some sort of miraculous turnaround

I was and still am a huge Pulis fan, massive respect for what he did for this football club , but I have been opposed to a return. I'm actually softening on that , if we have one last throw of the dice I'd rate his chances at least as much as anyone elses. Imagine his return !? Every last man Jack would be on their feet cheering ! Try as I might I don't see a better plan ? |

There is a real lack of quality, but the organization is poor, too. It's pretty bleak all round, to be honest. |

Brighton and Huddersfield aren't exactly full of star names are they? The difference is they have good managers who can organise them. |

But will we do that, will we buy those players in January, I'm not so sure. It's not like we are sleep walking into the championship, we are speeding their with eyes wide open. Everyone from the chairman down is culpable for the complete and utter shambles we have become, we have had every chance to put things right over the last 18 month/2 years but we have sat on our hands with our heads in the sand, complacent, unambitious, small time, lackadaisical and massively under invested in the team, why change now. |

Throw in a few injuries and a bit of a loss of form and that’s not much to build on or around. It’s a dismal squad built on the myths of self-sufficiency and youth development (neither of which are policies Hughes can be blamed for but he is utterly to blame for the lack of organisation). |

Even if Coates is willing to splash the cash (which he isn’t), convincing a good player to sign for a team heading for the Championship is almost impossible. Anyone who thinks otherwise is deluded. On paper Burnley have a squad that is, supposedly, inferior to ours yet they don't seem to be doing too badly. I'm sure that a different manager playing tactics that suit the players available would be enough to keep us up. A few quid in the transfer window to replace some obvious deficiencies wouldn't go amiss, however.

Not a Chance . 75m required to save this lot , that's the 25m we should have spent last summer , plus the 20m on Arnie , plus 30 to put right the previous two windows .All of course without scholes and Cartwright
best we can do so now is get our strategy right for the championship , clearly our youngsters are way off so we need to build a survive the championship and bounce back plan now .

But diouf, choupo, Ramadan, Fletcher,are just not good enough - did you not see ramadams inneffective wing contribution today, or dioufs awful touch. Pieters, cameron, average at best with crouch a good impact sub but not a starter at this level. Sadly we have a poor squad assembled by Hughes and the recruitment team and it's not good enough for premier league football. Hate to say it but if coates doesn't act we are going down, sadly we've missed the two best options in allerdice or Moyes who have transformed their teams in a short time. |

I think Diouf Choupu and Ramadan all have their contributions. Again, Ramadan was playing in a 442 with no out ball and no-one around him, he's no flying winger but he is a good player. We're a right back, a mobile defensive midfielder and a proper manager away from being top 10 easily in my opinion. |
