I work for an American company and spent some time with the team from California last week. We got around to talking about Soccer and one of the team had 3 suggestions to improve our National game 1. Cheerleaders - you can't really argue with this one! 2. Get rid of the offside rule - the theory being that there would be a lot more excitement and many more goals. We could see Stoke 24 - Swansea 19?? 3. Get rid of added time. There should be a game clock and when this gets to 90 minutes the game is over. Added time is too confusing and random!! I wonder if FIFA and the FA are open to some suggestions from the US of A??

Just a thought...I wonder how many points we have lost (or won) with injury time goals?

1. No

No
And I think that'd be worth looking in to. But the thought of it actually going on for 90 minutes is frightening, the games would lengthen massively wouldn't they?

1. Ideally no, not a big problem if happened
2. No, although I'd like to see a game in which that happened
3. No

Depends what they decide is a break in play and does/doesn't warrant the watch being stopped. I know in some games the ball can be in play for only 60 minutes. But it's certainly one to look at and if you did, would you make it a 60/70 minute clock and not 90?

Your blokes play rounders and wear crash helmets and body armour to play rugby. I suggest you fuck off and leave our sport alone.

Goals (Not sure) I think the game is just too fast paced for time stoppages. if TP comes back i definitely don't want stoppages.

Nah make it the full 90 with the proviso that we have a Winter break from the beginning of November to the end of February or heated seats.

It’s not April 1st is it ?
It has taken the best part of 200 years for the world to develop Football the greatest sport in the world.
With respect we don’t need ridiculous ideas like that even being suggested, let alone thought about.
When Soccer supporters in the USA begin to understand that a 0 0 draw can be an entertaining (not always) game they will have matured enough to start fully understanding the subtleties and excitements that Football provides the rest of the world. In the meantime they should learn to leave well alone.

Have them cavorting on the pitch at half time if you must - but not on the side of the pitch during the game. 2. Apparently the offside rule was brought in to make the game less defensive. Before the offside rule teams tended to sit deeper than after it was brought in. I think one of the great things about the game is when a skillful player beats the offside trap. 3. I've always thought that the professional game should have a visible clock which is stopped when there is a stoppage in the game as happens in rugby. The only point of contention to my mind would be how many minutes the clock should run for - maybe 80 minutes and if that proved too long maybe reduce it to 75?

Any unwanted cheerleaders should be sent to my house.
Would the "Boot room" become the "Trunk Room"?
Would "Diving" become "A great play"
Would the "World Cup" be only between English clubs?
And finally a word from our sponsors "No no no no no no no no"

4. Multi-ball extra-time - chuck an extra ball on every 5 minutes and first goal wins 5. two consecutive back-passes in your own half result in indirect free-kick to the opposition 6. Bigger goals - 9 yards by 9 foot instead of the traditional 8 7. Maximum of 5 defenders (plus GK) and 4 attackers allowed in penalty area at any one time There you go, took me all of 5 minutes to come up with one more shit idea than your Californian team managed in "some time" Maybe you should give me a job...

Depends what they decide is a break in play and does/doesn't warrant the watch being stopped. If Breaks in play are only for treatment of injury or removal of streaker, it could be good. Subs, free kicks, etc, should not stop clock. That will get rid of ref allowing play to go on till he feels like stopping it. The hooter sounds, and we’re done.

I am a big fan of stopping the clock when the ball is out of play and substitutions. This would prevent time wasting. The refs could also add 30 seconds everytime the GK wastes time. Also the time that the ref adds on sometimes seem very arbitrary.

Hasn’t made it into the professional game - thank God.

I am a big fan of stopping the clock when the ball is out of play and substitutions. This would prevent time wasting. The refs could also add 30 seconds everytime the GK wastes time. Also the time that the ref adds on sometimes seem very arbitrary. This won`t work , playing Bournemouth would mean a 3.00 kick off wouldn`t finish until around 8 in the evening
