First off I'll say it was a clumsy ill thought out tweet and he was right to apologise straight afterwards as he did. For those who always want to talk about nuance when it comes to Boris Johnson and his "letterbox" and "water melon smiles" I would say that Beckett is clearly referring to what he sees as her "institutional racism" rather than the fact she's of Asian heritage when talking about deportation, as in "don't deport the refugees deport the racists" But he's pressed send in frustration/anger and will now have to deal with the consequences such is the modern world. And lets not beat around the bush the suspension is purely factional, it's an open goal for Starmer with Beckett being someone he wants to see lose the Unite election and he's taken it. But for those who say "Well done Starmer" they've clearly not read the EHRC report and its findings (you can't quote it when it suits) as it should be independent of the leader which the below suggests otherwise. Is this man racist? I doubt it very much. Should he be suspended? Not in my opinion. Has he been an idiot? Absolutely.

Number of Covid deaths per 100,000 in India, described in this country as "the world's worst outbreak" = 19
Number of Covid deaths per 100,000 in the UK where Boris Johnson's govt "did everything they could" = 187
Hmmmm....

I see yet again the Tory blunders and slow to act government has resulted in a spike in covid cases
Why on earth do you put a country on a red list then give people 4 days to get back to spread the variant and not put them in quarantine straight away
Yet again mismanagement of the pandemic

If they had have closed the border to India sooner you would have been the first to call them racist. It's an interesting paradox you have Torys allow Indians into the country = Blunder Torys try to deport illegal Indian immigrants = Racist

I thought the Labour bloke's comments were just hyberbole and not worthy of particular scrutiny. No need for him to apologise IMO but once the comments started to receive attention it was obvious that he would eventually apologize. It seems to be the way of the world these days.

Yes he has form over anti semitism but then you don't really see it, how can an anti racist end up using the language of the bnp ? Look at the dog whistle there trying to use muslims as a human shield and lying about muslims being targetted (the two guys were sikhs) but yeah of course he cant be a racist the left are the good guys but boris is racist he said letterboxes blah blah blah.

But that image projects the sort of person he is and the shoddy, can’t be arsed “leadership” he shows.I can’t stand the guy...probably one of the worst things to ever happen to this country was him becoming PM.

By those figures 115000 have died in the U.K. which is way below the 151000 that the government say have died with COVID mentioned on the death certificate within 28 days of their death. The current estimate for COVID related deaths in India is over 1 million with some estimates as high as 3 million. The official Indian government figures are over 250k deaths. The massive discrepancy is because the official figures are those dying in hospital and don’t count the numbers dying waiting for oxygen or hospital admission, on the way to hospital and at home. So nice try your source is either months out of date or just complete bollox.

Both the UK and Indian stats I posted I got from here: www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ Feel free to tell me which stats I should be using. About Worldometer Worldometer manually analyzes, validates, and aggregates data from thousands of sources in real time and provides global COVID-19 live statistics for a wide audience of caring people around the world. Our data is also trusted and used by the UK Government, Johns Hopkins CSSE, the Government of Thailand, the Government of Vietnam, the Government of Pakistan, Financial Times, The New York Times, Business Insider, BBC, and many others. Over the past 15 years, our statistics have been requested by, and provided to Oxford University Press, Wiley, Pearson, CERN, World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), The Atlantic, BBC, Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science & Technology, Science Museum of Virginia, Morgan Stanley, IBM, Hewlett Packard, Dell, Kaspersky, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Amazon Alexa, Google Translate, the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20), the U2 concert, and many others. Worldometer is cited as a source in over 10,000 published books and in more than 6,000 professional journal articles and was voted as one of the best free reference websites by the American Library Association (ALA), the oldest and largest library association in the world. How we work We collect and process data around the clock, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Multiple updates per minute are performed on average by our team of analysts and researchers who validate the data from an ever-growing list of over 5,000 sources under the constant solicitation of users who alert us as soon as an official announcement is made anywhere around the world.

That’s impressive. But the statistics will be from Indian government who many sources have said are not accurate. You only have to look at the video footage and reports from India of bodies washing up on on the banks of the river Ganges, of people desperately seeking help at hospitals and the shortage of oxygen. Anybody who thinks that the Indian government figures are anywhere near the truth and COVID in India is not as bad as U.K. then you seriously have a very blinkered misunderstanding of how COVID is being dealt with across the world. The stats regarding the U.K. were way off the mark, that’s how wonderful your beloved worldometer is.
