I've sat in the South Stand for quite a few seasons now and must say that I've always been quite impressed with the noise coming from the rest of the ground, especially the Boothen. Saturday was quite possibly the quietest this season, despite winning 2-0. I know that the atmosphere has been subdued for a while now but never really expected the Boothen to be so quiet. It was a Boro fan who further pointed this out on the walk back to the car. Thoughts?

I was in my usual seat in the Boothen and I was just about to post how quiet the home side of the South Stand was!

They have got these big owls now and if you start singing they swoop and bite the back of your neck and leave a bad mark.

But my point is that very little of that noise reaches the Boothen. Hopefully the new corner will improve the accoustics a bit next season. Filling in all the corners would improve matters even more. All grounds with open corners have poor accoustics and those on a hill exposed to the prevailing winds lose even more sound.

Where have the lot from the far corner gone to? Always good value for a Oh when the reds...' And what about the bloke who started most Delilahs at the Brit? His we miss him. So glad my supporting apprenticeship was served at the back of the original Boothen... even when it was quiet... there was an atmosphere of 'something' ... A scene/ characters/ spots you could aim for or graduate to. Modern day teens must wonder where to look for their supporting role models!

The good old days when we regularly had 30,000 packed onto the old Boothen End! The days when it took so long to get out of the ground that we stayed there between matches and people were born, schooled, grew up and raised children of their own on the Boothen, before finally leaving in a coffin when death claimed them as they reached their biblical 3 score years and 10! Happy days!

I don't think it helps that 2nd half goals have become almost a thing of the past for us so we almost never score at the Boothen End.

Testament of the game I guess. Let's be honest, the atmosphere at home has been dead on it's arse for years, save for some egregious officiating or Arsenal. We're a mid table club with nothing little to fight for, the world's not against us and our football for the majority of the last 2 seasons has been poor. Not to mention we've got probably 3 songs that everyone knows and they're shite / done to death.

I sit in Block 19, a couple of the young chaps at the back tried to get a few songs going but they're almost illegible. Don't think anybody fancies joining in with them! One of them even gave us a rendition of 'wanky wank wanky wanky Boothen End' apt, but it never caught on.
Didn't hear anything coming from the South stand either, whether that be due to acoustics or whatever I dont know.
We only get up for it during the 'big' games these days. Wasn't too bad against United a few weeks back, sure it'll be fine against Chelsea. Home games how been a bit 'meh' for a while.

It was the worst atmosphere that I've witnessed at Stoke in a few years. Perhaps we are taking things for granted, I'm not sure.

Its never to late to change things for the better mate.if you only played 4 songs on your car radio youd go fukin puddled ! Some really annoying grounds like Swansea.very loud.infact loudest ive been to.small ground but intimidating.whole ground gets involved.i mentioned millwall as a example.status quo rockin all over the world.old age pensioners clapping and singing ! Makes you feel good as well. As loyal as we all are...we'll be with you doesnt exactly get the blood pumping.new entrance music different ones can be introduced and maybe adopted into new fan songs.but we do need a anoying tannoy goal song !

I'm hoping that the corner will be a continuation (in terms of noise) of the South Stand. A couple more thousand voices should make it the place to be for a great atmosphere. Always better when you're closer to the away fans.

Where has the atmosphere gone? It used to be deafening in the Boothen. At one time the noise alone would scare the opposition. Saturday was the quietest all season. We need to be Loud and Proud again and get the atmosphere back how it used to be

Boro at home was never going to be one to get the atmosphere going but what I did notice is how unarsed the cheers of the players was before kick off. I've never really known it like that since we've been up.
The reception Ramadan got at the end though after full time was awesome!

I'll not doubt that there may be some discontent with the spectacle, but I think there's something more to it than that. For me the logistics and the whole traffic, herding, queueing, searching etc takes a bit of the oomph out of it. {It may be a social control tactic}. I get a bus from the pub, there's always a few with second thoughts 'stay in warm pub and watch?', there's not enough interest fore a bus midweek, that's mostly about logistics, not football. I also think the demographic of the crowd is shifting, there's a lot more younger folk about, spread around {rather than together at the front etc}. I like to move around the ground midweek matches, I'm less of a baying hound when sat amongst children or the sedate. There are still pockets of energy, southstand barrier, back of Block 19, back of the Boothen.. Shame we havn't opted for Safe Standing trial in the new corner. I think it would have connected the South Stand and 'Novus' and livened up the Boothen. Hope that could be for the future, move the Family stand over to the tunnel. Premiership football and that.

Spot on. Stoke always traditionally played towards the Boothen End in the second half to take advantage of getting the crowd going. This season we have seen little action let alone goals at this end of the pitch to excite the crowd. I don't know if this due to a change in tactics , coincidence or bad luck, but it has been very noticeable.

Yes, and our goals look so much better at the Boothen End on the TV with the filled in corner rather than the 'bitty' set up that is the South Stand with all the other cobblers lumped in the corner and a half empty family stand!

There's no chance of that happening nowadays.

Been poor in there this season. I thought it was pretty quiet at the Palace game as well. There's 2 blokes behind me right at the back of 23 who always try to get a few songs going. It's a shame only a few of us get involved though and it takes a good few runs through the songs before enough people to make a noise gets involved.
