Take this how you like. I remember the game and the decision not to send Neville off was in keeping with the behaviour of lots of refs back then. Interesting to hear him talk about it now.

he was never gonna get sent off, every ref in the country was shit scared of whiskeyface, so were the entire f.a, utd had total cart blanche to do as they wished, cantona, keane, vidic, etc, they got away with murder every game because they played for him

To be fair to fergie he made him go out the second half and immediately sub him.
That was a rare bit of class from Utd because he knew he should have walked

Haven't watched the video but if it is the game I think it is then he should have been sent off. A second yellow never came when it was a certain second booking. Think Fergie then subbed him!!!!

There will never be a more stonewall blatant second yellow card than that. Nobody in the ground could believe he stayed on the pitch. Interesting that he admits he got away with one at West Brom as well, dreadful, gutless refereeing on both occasions scared of upsetting Fergie.
Fair play to Neville for his honesty.

He should have been sent off. It still sticks in my craw! What made it even worse was seeing Ferguson laughing with him!

Neville, Ronaldo, Rooney. Just 3 of the ManUre players that should have all seen red where's the refs just bottled it....

All joking aside the referee should have sent him off but did not. It was his way of saying to the Stoke fans. We got away with that.

He admitted it on Sky when he first started, I thought it was super classy of him.
I can see the tackle on Ethers like it was yesterday, wow where's the time gone

Jonation Woodgates 2nd tackle at Wolves was as bad if not worse than Nevilles.

Remember this game and the incident well.
Undoubtedly a sending off for a second yellow. We knew it , Untd knew it , and so did the Referee. I can not remember who he was ?
I also recall hearing or reading somewhere, it may have been an earlier Neville interview, that the Ref had a word with Fergy at half time and suggested that it may be a good idea to sub him as he could not turn a blind eye to his next foul which would have been inevitable.
The tackle on Ethrington was bad and in today's game could have been a straightforward Red.
No it couldn't it was MU. !!!!

Man of the people Gary Neville? When he calls fellow professionals 'average players giving you problems' smacks of his true nature and arrogance. Nice of him to highlight the corrupt officals in this way. Anyway, fuck it, it's all a big laugh when it's going your way!

Yes he should have walked, but he got lucky. Is that really the way to treat a great footballer for club and country. An act unworthy of Sir Alex

Tackles come and tackles go, but I was sitting twenty rows up from the halfway line and remember that one like it was yesterday. Bloody awful tackle that would have seen any other player for any other club getting a straight red. I was amazed that Matty got back up.

Was that the game where Tevez came on and won it for them? It was indeed, and the season previous Wilko was sent off for a foul on the cheating, diving Ronaldo. To compound the injustice the linesman suffered temporary blindness and missed Shrek trying to head butt Faye 3 yards in front of him.

There was a lot of aggression in our early Premier years. We've lost a lot of that mentality and I think we are poorer for that
