Republicans struck a *huge* blow against democracy today when their judges gutted the civil rights act. Story. They ruled that if a state passed racist voting laws, then only the US attorney general can sue against them under one of the important sections. If Trump wins next time then it'll be open season for states to pass laws that prevent "undesirable" races from voting because he won't sue. Those states will then be permanently Republican even if most of the people there wanted to vote out The Party. The Republicans have played a smart game by blocking Obama from nominating judges and then stacking federal courts full of their loyalists. This has been rammed through entirely by Republican judges. I think we can look to Putin's russia for an idea of where the republicans are going. An obvious attempt at Gerrymandering in a minor Arkansas County But if you look at the flash point Polaski County it breaks it about 60% White 40% Black which would suggest an over representation of the Black Community in Public Office While overall Arkansas is 75% White 15% Black and 10% other It's depressing that in 2023 people are still voting on Ethnic Lines but educate me where is the real problem It depends what you define as public office. We vote for everything in the US, from school boards to sheriff. I was questioning the NAACP use of the word Gerrymandering I had read the Article you linked before posting From what I read of the situation it is not Gerrymandering, manipulation perhaps but when one vote counts equally and each Ward is of similar size in number of voters it doesn't qualify in the classic definition Independent scrutiny would be desirable but I think impractical In Derry City Council which had a Nationalist Majority, for 50 years for some reason the Derry City Council was comprised of a Majority Unionist Councillors with 30% of the Population. This was achieved by having some Wards needing up to 10 times the number of Votes to elect a Councillor as another. It was the specific reason for the Peace Marches which led to the "Troubles" I agree with the vast majority of the work NAACP do but they are leticious, perhaps understandably so, but they sometimes see issues where none exist. |

- $1.5 trillion tax cuts paid for by the deficit, mostly to rich people. Designed as a long-term tax cut for richer people and a long-term tax increase for poorer (under $100k/year).
- attempted to remove health insurance from 27 million poorer people to save money for richer people. Didn't pass.
Biden
- CHIPS and Science act, investing in getting tech back in the US instead of being exposed to Taiwan/China
- Infrastructure bill, investing in future growth for everyone
- Inflation Reduction Act, cutting the deficit, allowing the government to negotiate with drug companies to make healthcare cheaper for normal people, investing in energy security, cutting climate pollution etc.
Trump rammed up the deficit, hurt lower income people and shoveled masses of money to richer people. Biden used his power to limit deficit spending and invest in the future for more people.

Only done a bit of looking but unlike trump or desantis she's not obviously pro-dictator and using the government to threaten and intimidate people who release "inconvenient" information. A trump or desantis win could effectively end hopes for free & fair elections in the US going forwards, I can't say that about Nikki. |
