Capitalism in action in the world of crisps/savoury snacks.. reaching the point where crisps will eat themselves, tooo much choice... Seen some Dorito 'Collisions' or somesuch earlier, Gaucamole and chilli in the mix up. It's all going a bit nuts. I've rebelled, defected to Heron Foods, gone owd schooo. Nik Naks, Discos, Seabrooks, Space Raiders, Scampi/Bacon Fries multipack and so forth. Walkers Ready Salted still the most exalted of crisps imo. Those Doritos Collisions get the 👍 from me also. Highly sexual.

Golden Wonder Chippies are my current favourite. Smallish bag negated by really thin cut. Take ages to eat, which is nice.

(**She drills fingers on table impatiently........**) We await your gastronomic review! I can certainly recommend the Jacob's Crinklys (cheese and onion) which came instead but they're sending the Cheddars FOC as a gesture of goodwill so the taste testing on those are going to have to wait. Two for the price of one can't be all bad. 👍

They're good. Like Cheddars compressed in a vacuum. Biscuity, but very crisp. Take a dip well. I'm on the Quavers, but think their marketing department need to up their game. The multipack looks like a a pack of pampers. Needs work.

Those are the blighters. I got 6 packs for just under 7 quid. Chees is spot on with the dipping option, hold together very well. Plenty of flavour into the bargain. Give em a whirl. 👍

The Branston mini cheddars have arrived murph and they've had a thorough testing. I'll have to give them a 3 or 4 out of 10. You can see what they're trying to achieve but not hitting the spot. Much prefer the Red Leicester version, bags of flavour there. I'll finish them off though in the name of science. 👨🔬

On a local Co-Op reconnaissance earlier, noted they've relocated the Crisp and savoury snack shelving. A bit of an extension to the section... gearing up. Variety multipacks of Smiths' Square Crisps go on offer tomorrow. Salt & Vinegar Squares... shhhh...sharp. Good accompiament to a dip. Watch the thumbnail though.
Interestingly seems Quavers have gone for a bigger and differently shaped multipack bag too, gone more trad. Good move imo.
Morroccan topped Humous going v. cheap.
Edit: Which complemented 20p fancy, previously $1.90 toasted Kala-summat irresistible Olive bread rather well. Supper.

I think they're probably ramping up the temptation stakes, Cheesy, drawing you into their sticky clutches with hypnosis to get you to buy plenty of nibbly stuff for Crimbo. --- Alongside the shelving had they got a big display of a snake like the one in the film of Jungle Book? PS: Thank Gawd the last line does NOT, in fact, say 'toasted koala'.......... (Specsavers, Specsavers.........)

Can anyone remember Sweet & Sour Twiglets?
Had them many, many moons (probably at least 10-15 years) ago & they were truly divine, repeat DIVINE. I can't even find any reference to them on-line now, so I think they must have been discontinued ages ago, which is a huge pity as they were deeee-lish and so moreish it wasn't true --- once you'd had one you had to finish the whole bagful, even the family-pack size. They were by far the best snacky thing I've ever had. I think I might contact the makers and challenge them to bring them back….
Ordinary Twiglets are good, but they're not irresistible, like the S&S were - it must obviously have been the spice blend they used in the coating.

Anybody tried the Walkers max strong jalepeno and cheese crisps? Nice but by far the hottest crisps I've tasted. Just purchased a share bag of these from the local Co-op. I'll let you all know what they're like later when the missus has gone to bed

Not as hot as I thought they were going to be but still hot enough to stop me from nailing the whole bag in 10 minutes Got some left so I'll finish them off tonight with the rest of my Bishops Fingers

Highly recommend, not too hot. Jalapeno and Cheese next then. I've had those and they're really tasty. They're the mildest of the three options in the range, the mid range ones are nice as well, think they're some sort of chicken flavour. They do exactly what they say on the packet and go perfect with beer

Definitely not for me! This is a copy/paste of a Telegraph article: 'Sainsbury’s becomes the first UK supermarket to stock edible bugs'
'Insects are going to be on the menu as Sainsbury’s becomes the first UK supermarket to stock edible bugs.
This week the retailer is exclusively launching Eat Grub’s Smoky BBQ Crunchy Roasted Crickets in 250 stores across the country.
The crunchy snacks are meant to be eaten alone as a snack or used to garnish dishes such as tacos, noodles or salads.
Rachel Eyre, Head of Future Brands at Sainsbury's, said: “Insect snacks should no longer be seen as a gimmick or something for a dare, and it’s clear that consumers are increasingly keen to explore this new sustainable protein source. We’re always looking to provide our customers with new and exciting products, and with the growing interest in edible insects we’re excited to be the first UK supermarket to make these products easily accessible for shoppers across the country.”
The online range from Eat Grub includes whole insects, and encourages consumers to stir-fry grasshoppers and make pizza dough out of crickets, because they are a healthier and more sustainable protein source than meat or tofu.
Suggested recipes for the ready-to-cook bugs include red curry cricket rice cakes, which are similar to fish cakes, buffalo worm macaroni cheese and grilled tempura grasshoppers.'' What a coincidence! We're having macaroni cheese for lunch today but, just to be a boring traditionalist, it will thankfully be devoid of buffalo worms. (Yaaaay.) Here's the whole article, plus a photo of a plate of vegetables and 'strange things' so you can see what you might be in for: www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/11/17/edible-insects-hit-uk-supermarkets-sainsburys-stocks-big-grub/
