Just on R4 talking about standing areas in footie grounds. V good Malcom, didn't know that standing in grounds was only against policy or did I hear you wrong... PS Not a whif of a Stoke accent! Maybe it was Girth Crooks Is that Garth's porn name?

Maybe it was Girth Crooks Oh no, he made Garth sound like a 70's housewife answering the phone in her best telephone voice. No, an accent like Malcoms, where the vowels are beaten out of you is only afforded with a grammar school education.

Law requires all seater stadia in top 2 divisions but it's not a criminal offence to stand in a seated area although it is a breach of ground regulations

Malcolm is erudite, influential and informed. That's probably why he goes incognito at games, walking around in a big coat carrying an old plastic bag like somebody who's only there because he's won a competition. Cheeky b****r 😄 That bag is the club shops finest although I'm hoping Santa might bring me a replacement 😄

My lads were both born in Burton but get the piss ripped out of them by their mates for having Stoke accents Mind you if anyone has had the misfortune to hear the Burton/South Derbyshire accent anything else is preferable - even Scottish They say 'I'm gooin darn tarn' (down town) when everyone knows it's 'up town'. And they say buck instead of book. Twats

Shows how 'Premier League' Malcolm's become when he says 'Enfield, Spurs territory' when he could, at a pinch, have said 'Enfield, Barnet territory'

If it stops the selfish morons particularly at away games insisting on standing so everyone one else is forced to have to stand then I am all for it. Sadly of course it won't stop this, as those who can't get a ticket for the standing area will merely just do as they always have and insist on standing.

I was thinking Law as in house of commons not FA which is more of a rule than a law. There again they've got a parliament as well. Independence next then we can stop subsidising them, whats the downside exactly?

That would just be a sign that the standing area was too small and needed expanding. If you think back to the Vic what percentage was sitting it wasn't a big one. I don't know whether that was preference or economic, its hard to judge what people really want in what proportion. I find standing far more comfortable so would choose to stand every time. I wouldn't mind sitting but I've never found or seen a seat in a football ground that meets my expectations. Even those comfy seats where the manager and what not sit are too low down to get a good view and I bet they're really cold and wet. What's Coates' seat like maybe I could sit with him.

I think the law says that clubs have to have all seater stadia, it doesn't make it a criminal offence to stand instead of sitting though. That is a club/local council regulation. I think governance of that is down to the local authority who could refuse to issue a safety certificate for peristent standing (health and safety ) It may require a tweak in whatever law governs the issue of safety certificates or it may simply be a change in attitude from local council hse's. I assume Malcolm could enlighten us.

They're so tied up in trying to worm their way out of actioning what the people voted for (incidentally I didn't but was sympathetic to many of their arguments) they won't be bothered about football.

Even those comfy seats where the manager and what not sit are too low down to get a good view and I bet they're really cold and wet. What's Coates' seat like maybe I could sit with him. I'm 70 and would be delighted to be able to stand in a rail seated area such as they have at Celtic and in many German stadia. The whole thing about rail seating is that there are rails in front of each row of seats so (when the seats are locked in the up position) virtually every spectator has a rail at waist height to lean on. Much safer than what happens at the moment where standing spectators at away games have no rail to lean on just the back of the seat in front which is usually at shin or knee height. I can remember the stadia in the pre Hillsborough days and it seemed that everyone who wanted a seat could get one and I assume the same situation would happen if we re-introduced safe standing/rail seating. I presume that clubs would gradually increase the amount of rail seating until a point was reached where all those who wanted/needed to sit would be able to sit and those who wanted to stand would be able to get tickets in the rail seated areas. There would no doubt be some fans who would not be bothered too much either way.

Love to see in our scoreboard corner the 'safe standing setup' we would double the 1,800 seats that are going in without it looking empty if all didn't sell but trust me we would sell them out easy I would relocate for a start

They keep announcing it as a sell out even when it isn't. I wanted a ticket for my Son who works most weekends for the Sunderland game, scfc direct said it was a sell out. When we went to the game quite a few of the seats around us that are normally empty were still empty including 2 adjacent to me and my Dad. Stupid system it must give up when it gets to a certain percentage capacity.
