Our highest priorities are a winger (two if Arnie leaves), a defensive midfielder and a center back. If we sign Allen and Arnie leaves, the net spend will be +500K and we'll be worse off. Allen will play defensive midfield ? One step forward, two steps back.

They say never go back, unless Allen is desperate to get back to South Wales Stoke would be a better move for him, he can stay in his leafy Cheshire mock tudor mansion and come to a club where he would fit in well...... As opposed to that derelict former miner's cottage, perched on top of a slag heap and shrouded by perma-drizzle, back home.

Quality signing if it comes off. His tenacity and energy are exactly what we need in midfield to complement the likes of Imbula and Bojan. Does the simple stuff very well and will be a great addition. He's also shown huge improvement last season under Klopp and carried that into the Euro's. I've been looking at the reaction on some scores boards and there are a lot that are disappointed he's being allowed to leave while they look like keeping the vastly inferior Henderson. If we can add Ramadan and Berahino, and maybe bring in a center-back, we've got a squad that looks capable of delivering a much improved season.
I would think this would mean Adam is on his way out, and depending on who else comes in, wouldn't be surprised to see Crouchy and On or two other squad players shipped out.

Reminds a bit of the last MF player we signed from the dippers.

Swansea expected to match the offer.. well, that was fun while it lasted. On to the next one. I don't care if Swansea match our offer. If we offer him a better contract he will come to Stoke. He's not going to sign for Swansea if we offered £10k per week more than they do.

Hughes will be a big factor in sealing this deal. Fellow Welshman - the player will have huge respect for him.

Where's he going to play? He plays in a more of an Imbula type position than a Whelan one, although I suppose he could play defensive mid. A midfield three of Allen, Imbula and Bojan would seem extremely lightweight though. I don't think Allen is lightweight Paul. For Liverpool last season and for Wales in the Euros he put himself about quite a lot. I think he can play both midfield roles. Sorry Rob, I've not had a chance to reply to this until now ... If Imbula was going to play in the hole INSTEAD of Bojan, then I think Allen would make a smashing fit in midfield ALONGSIDE Whelan. He'd make a great replacement for N'Zonzi. However if two of our three midfielders are going to be Bojan and Imbula, do you not think we're going to need an absolute beast of a defensive mid to do the defensive work (of at least) two men? Do you think Allen absolutely fits that criteria?

Allen will play defensive midfield ? One step forward, two steps back. As opposed to Whelan who would explode if he played a forward pass.

One of Allen or Lucas and I'll be happy. Lucas was the ar$ehole who was 'giving it large' to Stoke fans when we'd just lost out on penalties at Anfield. ........ No thanks.

Certainly not one of the midfielders we've been linked with does. Surely there has to be some hope that Imbula can adapt and add some semblance of a defensive side to his game? If not we really haven't done our homework at all there and are in quite the mess whoever comes in. What I like about Allen is that I've seen him play the energetic, tireless scrapper role and I've seen him play the more disciplined, deep lying playmaker role, which makes me think he has the flexibility to play in either of the roles? I could be wrong but that's been the impression I've got?

One step forward, two steps back. As opposed to Whelan who would explode if he played a forward pass. I bloody love Whelan but I tend to agree. I think Allen would automatically drive us forward, he's comfortable dropping deep to take the ball of the keeper which is where Whelan fills me with dread, one touch look up, another touch then sidewards/backwards and the whole process starts again. Allen would link the defence/attacking midfielders whilst still comfortable sticking his foot in when required. I think he'd be a great asset to the team personally........

Walters winds up opposition fans too and I love him for it. I was there and hated him for it too but would still want him doing it to opposition fans in a Stoke Shirt

Nixon (for what it's worth) seems to think Swansea will be back....
Not sure Joe Allen will fancy it. Swansea close to his heart. Liverpool want a sale. Up to Swansea to match. Simple. Allen is Jenkins' number one project. So let's see what he comes up with.

Yeah that's pretty much my impression of him Rob too and as such (and knowing what I know of all four players to date), I'd be choosing a '3' to play against Boro and Citeh which consists of Whelan, Allen and one of either Imbula OR Bojan. If we're going to play Bojan and Imbula together, then we're going to need a player with the same attributes (if not the same ability) as Kante ... in my humble.

One step forward, two steps back. Can you expand on this a bit? What should we be looking for in midfield? If we lose Arnie and gain Allen, we have another MF player surplus to requirements and we now need two wingers instead of one. Not much progress.
