Would be a superb signing. Exactly what we need as the midfield was shambolic at times in the second half of last season.
Arguably it is more important for us to push the boat out on a midfielder like Allen than spending money on a striker. We need two disciplined midfielders to give either Imbula or Bojan, or Shaqiri license to play in that central attacking role

Repsponse as requested Mr Biscuit thinks this would be a very good signing said before we need two midfield players given the injuries . This is a proven premier league player and at 26 had a good 4 years or more at the top in him .. Can see him and whelan playing together to tighten the ship up a bit as he can hold and do a but more going forwards releasing imbula of some defensive responsibility . I do agree with the poster who pointed out it shows how we vastly under sold Nzonzi as Allen is also in his last contractual year . But this would definitely be progress however I'm counting no chickens given Mr Scholes still has to do a showround and completion . Re the Nzonzi's comparison, we bought him for £3.5m & sold him for £7m - a £3.5m profit. Liverpool bough Allen for £15m and have agreed to sell him at a £2m loss. Maybe not such a bad deal after al?

LMH has completly lost the plot. We need steel in midfield for goodness sake. We never should have sold Maurice Setters, eh? *facepalm* A proper footballer. Did you not see the humiliating collapses at the end of last season where we had no steel, no bottle, no fight, no commitment. And what do we do to solve the problem - completely waste £13m on the insipid Joe Allen.

Did you watch him at the euros? Obviously not. Yes, I also watched Robson-Kanu look like the one of the best strikers there. The standard of international football is barely above the Championship. you are right about the standard of international football

Clearly you haven't got anything solid to back up your claim. Allen would be a fantastic signing. Who were rivalling us for his signature, Grimsby, Plymouth, Forfar Athletic? A dreadful, dreadful, insipid footballer.

Liverpool must be laughing their socks off. With luck we are just doing them a favour to push up his sale value to perennial relegation no hopers Swansea.

It's funny actually that Stoke fans like you moan when we don't sign anyone yet your getting your panties in a twist now that we're potentially signing a player. Put it this way, you'll never be happy.

They say never go back, unless Allen is desperate to get back to South Wales Stoke would be a better move for him, he can stay in his leafy Cheshire mock tudor mansion and come to a club where he would fit in well......

Not gonna lie this seems like a good transfer to me. Proven player in the league. Could seemingly start. Very good passing. Not an outrageous price. Well done imo

Our highest priorities are a winger (two if Arnie leaves), a defensive midfielder and a center back. If we sign Allen and Arnie leaves, the net spend will be +500K and we'll be worse off.

I'd prefer Allen and hope he comes, home grown and really is full of passion, just needs regular football which he will not get at Liverpool

Allen is good but I'd prefer lemina also Why? Why indeed, what we need is a Whelan type player with Prem experience, preferably British for the home grown quota, not another expensive ripoff who is a clone of Imbula, someone who will actually put a shift in, which Allen always does.
