Cracking business for Liverpool if true. Major shock if they don't get at least £14M for a player in the last year of his contract (if the details in the article are true) Shame we didn't get something similar into N'Zonzi's deal. £1M for avoiding relegation + £1M for top half and £1M for Europa League win would have made the initial £7M fee alot more palatable. But transfer fees now appear to be almost double what they were last season, so you are hardly comparing like for like. I am happy to have Allen at the club and believe he will be a decent player for us, however I also believe we have paid over the odds for someone who Liverpool simply did not want, and had infact already replaced. We did everything to keep N'Zonzi, apart from turning down a quite desultory offer. Transfer fees have gone up but not for everyone. Wanyama has moved to Spurs for less than Southamton paid for him and for £2M less than we have shelled out on Joe Allen.

You mean to say that he didn't see that damn great sign behind him He's a Welsh speaker - Stoke City is probably something totally different in Welsh. It probably means "The beautiful hen sanctuary, below the church, next to the river with the coracles, just inland from Fishguard." Far too many vowels in that name for it to be Welsh.

A very good player no doubt about it , will be interesting to see what we end up with , I just hope we don't have too many smaller neat and tidy players and a lack of pace and strength , we need a balance and a lot of teams looked stronger physically than us last season .

Good solid signing and boy we needed reinforcements in midfield with Ireland and Affelay's futures in doubt. So well done Stoke for seemingly concluding this deal quickly (for once ) It seems Swansea was a bit of a 'red herring' as they never upped their 8m offer from January, so it left us as the only bidder and we were happy to pay the asking price...bingo done deal A good deal for Liverpool too as a player with one year left on their contract can usually only fetch around 8m

Are the reports true, £11 million plus add-ons (£2 million)? Cracking deal if true. Joe Allen
We are also delighted to announce the signing of Joe Allen from Liverpool for a fee which could rise to £13m.
The 26-year-old, who shone for Wales as they reached the Semi-Final of this summer’s European Championships, has penned a five-year deal at the bet365 Stadium.
Announcing the news, Chief Executive Tony Scholes said: “Joe is a player that Mark has admired for a considerable amount of time."
“Therefore when we became aware of the possibility of bringing him to the Club it was something that we were determined to do."
Allen will wear the number four jersey at the bet365 Stadium and will fly out to link up with his new teammates in Orlando today.Just copied the above from an email the clubs sends out.

Swansea press really laying it on thick. It's like the aftermath of Princess Diana's death down there..... linkFormer Swans striker Dean Saunders was blunt about the consequences of missing out on Allen.
“I was speaking to Sir Alex Ferguson and he said ‘What about Joe Allen’s performances in the Euros? What a player he is’,” he told BBC Radio Wales Sport.
“He never mentioned Aaron Ramsey or Gareth Bale. We have missed out, the Swans have missed out, we should have got him back.
“It is a disaster for Swansea. Mark Hughes knows him but I am disappointed as a Swansea fan.”
Allen’s former Swans team mate Owain Tudur JOnes added: “I am gutted for Swansea. They have missed a trick.
“He’s certainly a player that could have added to their squad for years. He would have been a player that they would have got in his prime.
“Joe is a guy who could potentially have come in as a future captain.”

I have no doubt that Joe Allen is a good player and I am quite happy with the signing. The puzzle is how he fits into the team. I assume that a £13m player will be a regular member of the first team. Similarly our record signing will be playing most weeks. Whelan was one of our best players last season, even though he tired towards the end. So that's three central midfielders. So are we committed to 4-3-3? Or have I missed something?

Wanyama has moved to Spurs for less than Southamton paid for him and for £2M less than we have shelled out on Joe Allen. Opinions aye!? See, I read the Wanyama signing and the fees involved as a clear indication that we had done really well with the N'Zonzi transfer. Rather than saying Spurs paid less, so therefore Joe Allen is expensive, I take the positive view that it made the fee we received seem good value when all things are considered. In short: Wanyama went to a Prem team, Fonz didn't. Good Wanyama will play against Saints, Fonz couldn't. Good We made money selling Fonz, Saints didn't. Good Saints were in Europe we weren't and couldn't offer that incentive to stay yet still got more money Sevilla have less money than Spurs yet we got a better deal. Good Liverpool lost £2m plus selling Joe Allen, we saved two million on a player that has certainly enhanced his reputation since joining LFC. His star was on the rise and their fans rate him a lot higher now then they did when he arrived! Allen is also, right now, about to hit his prime.

Been saying it for days, he's 100% going to Swansea, I always thought that before our bid went in and we have just hurried it along a tad

He's well cheap. Yet despite his struggles at Liverpool, Allen’s ability and worth should not be underestimated. This is a player that was just named in the Euro 2016 team of the tournament. So impressive were his displays he managed to take Wales (Wales!) to the semi-finals in France. He was joined in that XI by fellow midfielders and forwards Toni Kroos, Antoine Griezmann, Aaron Ramsey, Dimitri Payet, Cristiano Ronaldo. The average valuation of those players is estimated at £48m (according to transfermarkt.com). If he’s keeping that sort of company surely Allen is worth more than £13m? A look at what others are spending or reportedly considering spending on midfielders this summer is another indication that Liverpool should have received more. Arsenal paid £35m for Granit Xhaka, Liverpool paid £34m for Sadio Mane and £25m for Georginio Wijnaldum, Manchester United paid £26.3m for Henrikh Mkhitaryan and are considering paying around £100m for Paul Pogba. An argument could be made that Allen is better than some of these players. It could easily be argued his value should at least be closer. Keane would be my choice. The pool of good Young British centre backs is not that deep that's the trouble. Either him or that lad at Newcastle.
