Plenty of time for Swansea to join in then Liverpool bid for Wijnaldum and he's had a medical the same day It's like we've got a football manager filter on, "must be a long drawn out transfer saga, can not be completed before 50 pages on the oatcake are filled" How do you know when the bid went in mate? When did the negotiations between the two clubs start? At a quick glance, the Daily Mail (*spit*) had Liverpool and Tottenham linked with him well over two weeks ago, and Everton linked for well over 6 weeks... Just because we don't hear about these transfers until they hit the headlines in mainstream media doesn't mean that every other club doesn't have its own 'sagas' just like we seem to have every transfer window. For example the Leicester forum has threads on Michael Keane (started 18th June) and Wissam Ben Yedder (started 27th May), and their very own Joe Allen thread from a link made nearly a month ago (24th June). Every signing and negotiation will be different; for example the Bojan and Diouf transfers seemed to take forever for one reason or another, whilst Glen Johnson and Bardsley seemed to join within hours of a rumour gaining traction. There will be discussions with players and clubs that we're never aware of at the time (like the Ki bid for example) and others that stretch back over many months, a la Berahino; it is just scrutinzed to the nth degree on here because we are all Stokies just desperate for any news like the suckers we are and we never seem to learn to be patient despite it being like this every single transfer window Blasphemy! Blasphemer! Now own up are their any women here.

Why? What have they done to you? I take it you've never met a Swansea fan then? I have. I had a flat in Swansea for a couple of years and have been to the Liberty a few times. Nice people.

These lulls in proceedings are par for the course.
Right now the club or player are weighing up the size of the Transfer Todge right in front of them.
Some shy away, afraid of the challenge and take the extra money whilst others take it on board and ride with it.
We dont want shrinking violets here do we?
Look at little Bojan. One look, I'll have a bit of that and the little lad hasn't looked back since.

One of the unsung heroes of the Stoke side of the early 70s was another Welshman, John Mahoney. He put in the hard yards and the graft, which enabled the big name players to do their thing. Allen reminds me a lot of John Mahoney. Not physically (Mahoney was a much bigger unit) but they both became the midfield dynamos of the sides they played in. Mahoney, of course also played for Wales 51 times, and watching Allen at the Euros it was easy to think John Mahoney could have had a similar influence on the current Welsh team as Allen did. It was no surprise that Allen made the team of the tournament - he was just what Wales needed to make them tick and I'm sure he could do the same for Stoke if we sign him. As Grapey has said, he also seems perfectly at home in the Whelan role or a more advanced Imbula/Afellay role - what's not to like about this proposed transfer? EDIT: I knew John Mahoney very slightly. I lived in Crewe in those days and I often used to have a drink at a pub in Nantwich with a mate whose local it was. It was John's local at the time as well and I was there the night the landlord took a phone call, passed the phone to John who put the phone down with a big smile on his face and told us that he had just received his first call up to the Welsh squad! Happy days.

If we were any good at transfers we'd have found out where Allen was holidaying and Scholes would be there, emerging from the sea Ursula Andress-like, contract in hand, or donning a cunning disguise and interrupting a romantic evening meal with a cheery "rose for the lady please sign here?" I'd rather Allen didn't come at all, than have to endure the sight of Scholes in a white bikini ...

Obviously things are going on behind the scenes that we won't know about but I've got a bad feeling things are too quiet on Joe Allen, I hope I'm wrong and he's seen down Clayton Wood having a medical tomorrow and he brings Berahino with him

I don't know where this Swansea talk is coming from but if that is where he would choose then surely;
1. Swansea have to match our bid 2. If they do, Stoke could put in a higher bid, look to outbid Swansea, and Liverpool will only sell to the highest bidder.
Allen might not want to come to Stoke and there would be a difficult situation between him and the club but there has been talk all summer that he is available and we are the only ones who have had a bid accepted. We must have had some encouragement from the player to get that far. I would say we are in prime position to get him. No doubt there is a lull whilst we negotiate some of the finer points with the player and agent

Sobhi, Berahino and Allen should be sorted by next week. Until then, a tad more patience is required.

I've heard Allen can absolutely nail Wonderwall, but Berahino has quite a limited vocal range. Not sure about Sobhi, can't imigine him being big on karaoke.

Happy days. Lovely post. When Josh joined from Crewe, there were a lot of people in south Cheshire delighted for him. I was a bread boy on an Emburys van in the area when he signed. A lot of Stoke fans criticized him for tearing around the pitch but he settled down and became a class player. In 1975 I moved to Middlesbrough where I watched him play when he moved there. Allen is the finished article IMO.

Well that's 24 of the 48 hours over. Considering Hughes wanted a couple done before the US tour and Sobhi to make his debut at Preston, we're in for a fucktastic friday.

By Christmas he will be worth half what he is worth now. By the end of this transfer window his value will have dropped a couple of £M

There's absolutely no proof that he even wants too.
It's been 24 hrs since news broke of us having had an offer accepted if they want him that bad they'd have made a bid by now.
