He says he would rather go to Swansea, for fuck sake stoke To be fair samba this post implies that you've read a quote from him saying as much, its pretty easy to see why people are questioning you on it.

He's impressed me recently, but I'm a bit bothered about the lack of a real dominant, physical player in the middle.

Joe Allen has been superb over the last 12 months. As a Welshman I never really rated him but he has been a transformed player. Some of his displays for club and country have been excellent. He will be a superb buy for you

Until tonight I wasn't aware that so many of us Stokies wanted the club to sign a "Dolph Lundgren-a-like" to patrol the central midfield.

80 mill? I'll believe it when I see it You might not see it, but it is there if Hughes wants it and can get his targets. Believe me when I say, we are shopping in a different pond now, these deals take time and will cost a lot of money. Yes, my only concern is that it appears to be a pond without any fish in it right now, but hopefully that will soon change

sureeee i would do that because??? Fuck knows. Anyone would think you don't want Stoke to sign a quality International footballer, with massive Premier League experience. Oh fuck off. Tell me you've not just been pulling my chain. Shit I've had too much holiday beer. I'm off to bed.

If Hughes has 80 million to spend he has got no excuse but to end the window with a rock solid defence

Ki is elite at certain things and shite at others. He's the best passer of the ball in the PL imo. Lot's of people being utter hypocrites here. At least 90% of this forum would've classed Allen as utter shit before this news broke. Wait... Erm..... Best passer in the Prem... What the Scottish Prem? He's not the best passer in the fucking Prem I mean come on. It's an opinion and I stand by it. Other areas of his game is lacking but his passing is absurdly good. I suppose you only watch him twice a season which is fine but doesn't put you in a great position to judge a player. If you're sad enough have a scout on youtube for his range of passing or take heed from stats which season on season proves he's the most efficient passer in the league. I'm not wrong on this one, he isn't an elite player but his passing is off its head.

Can someone confirm his position? Is it cdm like Whelan? I must admit I'm not 100% he's a like for like I can see him linking well with Imbula and Whelan (or his direct replacement perhaps) in a central 3 but this means either Bojan or Diouf/Saido miss out on a start. If we play with someone just behind the striker then either Bojan/Imbula would most likely be benched as we'd need 2 fairly rigorous players in the middle to do the graft for the team. Either way it seems Bojan in particular will really need to catch Hughes eye to get regular starts & I still think we'll be after someone like Lemina even if Allen agrees terms

Can someone confirm his position? Is it cdm like Whelan? He's a terrier type, far more mobile than Whelan. He's not a box to box but he can get up & down, receive the ball and lay it off again. He's not as lightweight as people might think either, look at that fucking henchness underneath the jersey.

For those who want a destroyer, that is clearly not what Hughes wants in players these days. He wants players who are comfortable on the ball, who can pass and move, retain possession (ball shirkulashun, as Bossie said!) and feed the attacking midfielders. The days of Mick Kennedy and Stigger Foley are long gone. Allen will fit in well with the style of play Hughes is orchestrating. He can cover ground and win the ball as well, he just isn't going to take someone's leg off at the knee in the process! So expect a few more 4-0 defeats?

I respect your opinion but I don't think the best passer in the Prem plays for Swansea. by the way, it's not sad to watch YouTube clips of players when we get connected with them, it's called having an interest. I don't need YouTube to know that Ozil and co are better passers.

I actually think he'll be a good buy for Stoke but it's nowt to do with the last 12 months, it's his time before Liverpool when he was playing every game and getting the minutes that I think is the good measure.

I think this is a deffo smokescreen, I think Allen will wait it out till January so he can go Swansea ,or swans match our bid and klopp owes us one , maybe this is to force Lemina's hand into making a decision .

Latest from Peter Coates.
"I can confirm I went to see the Liverpool chairman in person. I just shouted the words Joe and Allen, unzipped and thumped it down onto the table and asked him his thoughts on the proposal.
I think the word they use is "Speechless"."

No doubt a good player who will suit the Hughes style , just not sure it addresses any of our current concerns so still a lot to spend . But if other players come in in the areas where we are weak a decent addition

He was easily Liverpool best player in the fixtures v us this year. He was particularly impressive in the two cup ties. I wasn't impressed when he first went to Liverpool but as daibando says, he seems to have improved massively over the last 12 Months. He's clearly a very decent player and he would be a super signing for us.

Generally speaking our concerns seems to be at centre half, full back, out wide, back-up goalkeeper and up front. Joe Allen's a decent player but he can't play all those positions at once.

I think he's definitely got the tenacity required to play in Whelan's position, I think Whelan has been great and will continue to serve us well but I think Allen is the much fabled Whelan upgrade.
