I am worried Arnie will be a miss, but if we got Townsend in I'd be happy. His stats for Newcastle mirror Arnie's (relative to games played), and that is for an abysmal Newcastle side that's he's only had a few months to settle into. A fair few of Arnie's goals have to have been penalties too surely?
So while his stats are good, I'm confident they can at least be replicated - if not surpassed - by Townsend, who is much more direct.

He's obviously minded to wait and see what emerges for him later in the summer, especially if he has an eye-catching Euros. But I'm still not sure a more attractive move will open up for him. If he's aiming for £70k+ and regular football, there are probably only 10(?) viable destinations for him in Europe who could offer the fee, wages and improved sporting situation. He won't interest the absolute top clubs so there's maybe 3 or 4 options in England, a couple in Germany, a couple in Spain, a couple in Italy? Will one of them bite the bullet and single him out for what will be a big package for pretty much any club outside the Premier League? Still think it's unlikely. If a Southampton, Leicester or West Ham came in, might that tempt him do you reckon Grapey?

Townsend plays on the right. If we signed him, he wouldn't be a replacement for Arnie.

They could all easily afford it, and can see all 3 potentially having a nibble at £12.5m. Notice Mane is again being linked with Man Utd this morning. If they could £20m for him and get Arnie for £12m, they'd be laughing. Whether they could offer him a wage much above what we'd be prepared to go to is probably unlikely, but suppose they'd all be a better sporting bet. Then it just comes down to how settled he is here and the fact he's guaranteed 30+ starts a season, weighed against European football?

Townsend plays on the right. If we signed him, he wouldn't be a replacement for Arnie. He does predominantly yeah, but he's very comfortable with both feet, and has played plenty of games down the left. If anything it helps our winger situation anyway. This season I feel like we've not switched wingers enough during games, so if their fullbacks suss them out early on, then that's that really, they have little joy throughout the game bar dribbling inside and laying it back. Shaqiri can easily switch with Townsend and as a full back it gives you much more to think about considering Shaq and Townsend are very different players.

And I can't believe I have just read somebody say he is on shit money at Stoke!!!!!! What an absolute load of bollocks. Bit harsh mate but you are entitled to your opinion...

Sorry Arnie, but I'd look for a replacement now stoke. Let's not get carried away this is how football works, I know we all want him to sign but look at it from his perspective for one second. He's already been in talks and knows what the club are willing to offer, he hasn't said he's not signing just that he wants to go to the euros first. Yes he's putting himself in the shop window and why shouldn't he if he has a stormer and then moves on earning big bucks at a bigger club then good luck to him if he doesn't and signs then great for us. This is probably his last big deal of his career and he is looking for the best possible deal let's all ask ourselves that we wouldn't do the exact same thing in the same situation. I don't understand why people get caught up with all this loyalty bollocks, loyalty died not only in football but in most aspects of working life a long time ago, players come and go driven by money or ambition of course we will disappointed if he leaves but that's modern football.

For me along with Ryan should be the highest paid player at the club. 80k seems unreasonable 60k should be nearer the mark.
Interesting that drinkwaters asking 80k pw at Leicester amid rumours of interest from Liverpool.

Interesting that drinkwaters asking 80k pw at Leicester amid rumours of interest from Liverpool. If Arnie is worth 80, then Drinkwater is worth at least 80 too. He's just helped them win the League. With all the money coming into the Premiership its not surprising. Though I would be sceptical of these figures thrown around by the media.

IF the reports are to be taken as correct then £60k wouldn't make him the highest paid player though.

Given that the Premier league is awash with money and we have seen that the likes of Benteki are on £140k per week, £80k seems reasonable for our top goalscorer.

Couldn't really hold him back if PSG wanted him. Thats a clear step up. However PSG have plenty of money so we'll have the full supposed buy-out figure of £12.5m - Thank you ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/kwfoKwtHI0jglJZ4qZf6.gif)

I would give him 80k but no more maybe the club should spend £28m on saido and Redmond instead of giving Arnie a massive pay rise. Then share Arnie £80,000 per week out between them. ![:-S](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/kdD1n42dnzYd3v59eUB_.gif)

Pay him what he wants and in the new contract insist on a whacked up buy out clause to claw back the cash if he buggers off within eighteen months.
This CEO business, I'd shit it.

There's a lot of assumptions being made. The biggest one being does anyone genuinely want him. He's obviously assuming someone does.

Why not offer him a base salary of 50K with bonus incentives that could get it up to 100K. Pay for performance.

Maybe, post euros there'll be a queue forming at his door for his autograph on a contract, or not. Dragging it out until then though may not be in his own best interests. Who the heck knows what's going through the guys head, apart from 'better' things.

I just wait and see what happens instead of agoniaing over what we have no control over.
We were Stokies before Arno came and we'll all be Stokies after he has gone....whenever that might be.
