I've heard rave reviews about Sufjan Stevens but always been daunted by the amount of music he's released, an overwhelming feeling of 'where to start'? Didn't he do an album inspired by each US state, in one year, or somesuch madness? I liked a few tracks of his early oI heard on 6 early on, but have never listened to any of his albums. I think he may be a tad too poppy for my palate. Have you heard much Sufjan? any pointers? I always thought it was similar to what Bright Eyes do/did. Who I do like. Bright Eyes 'Fevers & Mirrors' album was glued to the stereogram for a while. Bit of a Violent Femmes/fairground Doors feel to it's urgency. There was a brilliant collaboration between Bright Eyes & Her Space Holiday on Witicha Records. {Who released some really great music 1995 ish onwards.}

That's brill bibble, Ivor Cutler in the house! I like James Yorkston's mellow tones. The 'Lang Toun' is amongst me faves. Nice to see the Fencefolk still releasing stuff, I came across a new King Kenny Creosote LP 'Greetings From Scotland' on the Youtube too. I'm still waiting for the elusive HMS Ginafore to burst into the public consciousness. Crafted from the salty air of coastal Fife.

It's from an album entitled Carrie and Lowell which I got my hands on today although it may be a while before I give it a good listen because I got the PJ Harvey album at the same time.
I was thinking about Bright Eyes earlier after I'd typed Conor Now he's another artist on the periphery of my thoughts. Every track is pleasant but no one track makes me want to play it to death.
On a separate subject I also grabbed What's your 20 by Wilco as a starting point.

One of my favourite ever ever tracks...snarlingly brilliant...I put it up on one of the other threads. Got it on vinyl, they're all snazzily dressed and underneath the caption reads "Poor Cardiacs, one day they'll all be dead"

Pavement are up there, what a glorious racket. Love 'Wowee Zowee' and 'Slanted and Enchanted' in their entirety. 'Cut Your Hair' is great. I've got a vague recollection of a Jicks song that mentions S-o-T. Might come back to me. I've dug out my Sebadoh albums this week, re aquainting myself with some raucous American college rock. From a time just before Nirvana blew the job apart. Sebadoh. Lou Barlow. J.Masics {Dinosaur Jnr} involved in some of the early recordings. edit. ps I keep hearing tracksa from the PJ Harvey 'Demolition Project' album, sounds rather good.

In 1982, aged 32, lead singer, Pendergrass was severely injured in a car accident in Philadelphia, resulting in his being paralyzed from the chest down.

Some great picks there Big John, not keen on the early Elvis, but Suspicious minds, I just can't help believing, In the ghetto is more my thing. Love the Pretenders especially this track with kick ass lyrics, beautiful woman.
