Some great picks there Big John, not keen on the early Elvis, but Suspicious minds, I just can't help believing, In the ghetto is more my thing. Love the Pretenders especially this track with kick ass lyrics, beautiful woman.
[/quote Just to pick two contrasting songs from his early period. Amazing , he was about 23 years old when he sang these. He could sing the blues, gospel, ballads, country. Absolutely unique. As those in the profession say he changed music and culture. He was also able to change with the times. These two songs are not out of place today, you can actually hear what he is saying, unlike some vocalists.

'Illinois' is by far Sufjan Stevens best album, imo. (The song titles are the longest you'll ever see though)

Cheeers for posting them, glad you're enjoying it. It's very chilled and nice but it hasn't really lit a fire under me. I've possibly overloaded on this kind of sound, it's very reminiscent of Elliott Smith and such. I think I might just switch off mentally now when I hear this kind of thing. I'm always a bit worried about missing out on something musically that I might really like though. Used to like the free Uncut compilation cds for discovering new stuff. 6 music does that now to some extent. I had Prefab Sprout 'Swoon' on earlier, cracking album. Reminded me of Swan Dive, a band who I first came across on just such an Uncut comp. I was convinced they'd be the new Sprout. Great first album, but no longer exist I don't think. On a slightly different note, came across Lambchop in the same way, a track on an Uncut Americana free cd.

Do you like counting crows? August and everything after is a cracking album I wasn't as enamoured about the follow up. I think I first heard them on a freebie from Q magazine, Round here? and bought the album from there.

Not a lover of Counting Crows but that tune is ace. My default artist is Sir Paul from Woking so listen to him regularly. Top tune from last album. And one of our best British actors is in the video, bonus.

It's mid-morning the other side of the pond. Lana hasn't been up for long and is meandering unshowered around her loft flat in a vest top and little shorts with a hangover. I listen to this and can't help but wonder exactly what her minge smells like this very second...
