Most of Thea's work is produced by Nigel Stonier. He wrote the music for a production we did at the South Cheshire Youth Theatre in 1988 and I sang one of his songs. I can't sing for toffee now mind :-) Yes Nigel performed that night too, we used to be very good friends, sadly, they're no longer together. I remember Nigel Stonier from Sandbach School. He was in a class 2 or 3 years above me so I didn't really know him well but certainly our paths crossed occasionally in the music room. I'd pretty much forgotton about him for the next 35 years until I saw Thea Gilmore supporting The Zutons at Delamere Forest in 2008 and she announced her guitarist as the very same Nigel Stonier

Its one of mine too , beautiful song from a sadly largely forgotten band , still performing i think . My sister saw them a few years ago They've sadly split now. We saw them on the first night of their two farewell shows at the Shepherds Bush Empire in 2016, they played MFTS as the encore. The only time I ever saw Family live was the previous year, 2015. The show was due to be at the Shepherd Bush Empire and literally a couple of days before the gig I got an email saying they had problems with the roof and the gig was being switched to the Kentish Town Forum and delayed by a day. Damn inconvenient it was as I had train tickets booked and was due back at work! I was slightly disappointed that Charlie Whitney was missing from the classic line up, but the show was great, they did My Friend The Sun as the last song. The support act that night was an acoustic version of The Strawbs with Dave Cousins and Dave Lambert. I saw Roger Chapman solo once, he was supporting Jethro Tull in 2005. His set seriously overran and he was told he had to stop, so he ended up doing an a cappella version of the first verse and chorus of In My Own Time whilst the roadies were clearing away behind him!

I absolutely adore Nick Drake but I find Bryter Later such a difficult listen. Buried in all that awfully twee over production from Joe Boyd are some incredible songs attempting to break through but they are totally smothered in unnecessary ego driven nonsense from the producer ... I find myself having to really focus on the song itself in order to block out all the unnecessary guff that's chucked on top (it's a terrible distraction), in order to actually realise the brilliance of the artist (no wonder Nick sold fuck all at the time!) Love him so much ...

Not heard this before, as the intro began, I thought, blimey, this could be a Noel Gallagher chord progression and then, bang, the vocal kicked-in, goose bumps right now, that's (are you listening Joe Boyd? ) how you let a song breathe ...

Well that made me smile. We've had to look after a Chihuahua for two months for a friend with long Covid. Put that particular song on and he howls along in unison to it, as Pavorotti reaches his finale the little bugger hits a whole new level

My lad loves the Kinks but he thinks this is better than Lola My best mate is a massive kinks fan and thinks the same! In his words: "WS is lyrically sublime and paints a picture that became the backdrop to mine and so many others' lives..." suppose as a London boy, there's a special resonance for him? He loves Lola too, thinking it illustrates Davies' throwaway brilliance for songwriting,"Davies having a bit of fun.." but not possessing the same gravitas as Waterloo Sunset. But then I think they're both trumped by 'Village Green...' and 'Days' so who knows? 😂

I was absolutely the right age in absolutely the right era when it came out
