Started to use You Tube a lot recently. The sound of Philadelphia gives amazing non stop music. (If you like that sort of thing)

Burlesque by Family- I bought the vinyl single in 1972 aged 12. I've played it numerous times since then and I cannot put into words how much I love that record- it just gets better every time. The SOUND is just awesome. I know this is old fashioned but listen to it a good hi-fi system if you can. The sound of the drums and bass is fantastic, the main guitar is well up in the mix but allows the space for the other instruments to be heard in all their glory- even the synthesizer really adds something to the record. The stars really did align for them in the studio that day. And I love the B side as well, a song called the Rocking R's that somehow didn't even make it onto the Bandstand LP. I think it's one of the best songs ever written and performed I've always loved it and of course In my own time is up there with it.

Wilton Felder on the saxamaphone machine.
Bobby Womack on the voice. Think there are some crusaders kicking around too!

Jam and Lewis (and their massive synth pads) were the soundtrack to my life through '83 and '84, living in Brixton/Streatham in my teens, with those amazing south london local pirate radio stations and clubs at the time ...

He wrote the music for a production we did at the South Cheshire Youth Theatre in 1988 and I sang one of his songs. I can't sing for toffee now mind :-)

MFTS is a real favourite of mine, as is Thea, so I would have loved to hear that combination. I really cant imagine how it would have sounded. Shame that she and Nigel are no longer together, although I seem to recall they've been on rocky ground for a long time now... does this mean she's no longer living in Cheshire? Although I loved Family back in the day, I never had any of their albums and only got to know 'My friend the sun' through a friend of mine singing it whenever we got together. I actually have a flakey recording we made of him singing that in my Mum n Dad's front room back in the late 70's... oh the memories

We saw them on the first night of their two farewell shows at the Shepherds Bush Empire in 2016, they played MFTS as the encore.

Archetypal Oasis song. Such an underrated track...
This live version is fuckin incredible. What a voice!! - Liam Gallagher in his prime.
