And I don't blame them tbh. Big Mama has kept himself fit though. I was impressed with quite a few of the "old" lads fitness tonight Was just a really nice, feel good night all in all. A proper farewell for not just Wilko but for players like Ric who left under a bit of a cloud.

Attachment DeletedWonderful night, atmosphere and the pitch invasion was the perfect send off for Wilko. The only thing that marred the evening was the thug masquerading as a steward who was kicking out at fans - should be charged with assault.

I was impressed by Rory - he still kept popping up all over the place with interceptions, and was getting around the place until the 60 minute mark. I was surprised that Lawrence couldn't manage more than 20 minutes, though. I loved how they reverted to old habits in the second half, with Ric ambling about, Mama doing the Mama role, Cresswell just running backwards and forwards on the wing and Higgy smacking 50 yard long balls up the pitch. It was nice for the two young lads who scored belters, too. Rory reads the game so well mate doesn't he. He sat there picking up every loose ball and then playing it simple. I've heard Telfords name pop up before but never heard of the young lad that scored the other belter. He was a bloody fair unit though He does, we could use somebody like that now. I just wish he'd taken a throw in! I think Telford is one of the two from Blackpool, his was an excellent finish. Not so sure if Abdullah's (?) goal was a good one, or a dodgy moment from Simmo, who did produce some good saves.

What a fantastic night. Some proper modern 'legends' of SCFC who have played a major part in what we've become today.
That was the best Monday night in a long time

I thought Simmo did particularly well. As did Gyollai first half. I like the cut of that lad's jib.

That was the best Monday night in a long time Just back after a round trip of 315 miles including a diversion around some obscure East Yorkshire villages. Agree completely with this - it was a splendid night and so good to see some of our heroes again. Nice to see Griff and Ric friends again! Totally knackered now. Saturday drove approx 400 miles from Mull to home. Sunday drove 300 miles to Fenton. Monday ditto plus an extension because they closed the motorway. Approx 1000 miles in 3 days. But so worth it

Awful atmosphere in the q railing...kept getting told to sit down when clapping players on and off the pitch and got some rate funny looks for singing songs...if you can't have a sing-a-long on a testimonial then when can you.. Anyome would have thought we'd been relegated this year the miserable folk in there So the q-railing is just as shit for a 'bit of fun' testimonial? I hate ever having to sit in there as I want to join in with the boothen Im an upper tierer. I take exception to the notion we are all boring up there but i admit i once joined in a " wembley" song against west ham in the quarter final of the fa cup and had to appologise for my actions. I find humming meets the half way house and recommend this.

Can't compete with that, but left Leeds at 6am Monday morning and got back at 12.30am this morning, and definitely worth every minute. Lush Staffordshire countryside, family, oatcakes and got onto the pitch at the end to shake hands with some of the 'old' lads. Brilliant day.

Overall it was a good night. It definitely made me feel nostalgic about the last 10 years, what we've achieved and how far we've progressed too. The main thing was saying farewell to Wilko, but also to some of the players we've had over the years too who have played a big part in getting us where we are today. Watching that game also makes you realise how quick the premier league actually is. Of the older players I thought Cresswell looked better than when he played for us! Some of them have of course put a little bit of timber on, including Hoefkens, but he was still up and down the wing, a bit slower than he used to, but he put in a great ball for Crouchs goal. Delap and Whitehead looked comfortable in midfield, like they hadn't been away. Not one Rory throw in though Ric had a few good runs and was unlucky not to score when he hit the post. I think people wanted him to score as much as Wilko. Mama hasn't changed either from his playing days. Dicko seemed like he wanted a lot of the ball, he put in a great cross for a disallowed goal for Patto , (who also looked sharp - wheres he playing now). Dicko obviously loved being back at Stoke, straight over to fist pump at the boothen end when they came out at the beginning , but it was funny when he first received the ball and the seddon stand booed him, so he turned around and laughed with them. Kitson still has a great touch on him, but still could't score Nice to see Steino again, he even got in to a couple of good positions for a strike at goal. Bringing on the kids upped the tempo of the game, but I noticed Bardsley was trying to make sure the young lads got put in their place, he nutmegged a couple of them and totally took out one of the defenders down by the Boothen. Telford scored a good goal, I've seen him play at u15 & reserve level and he looks a decent prospect. I thought Simmo did particularly well. As did Gyollai first half. I like the cut of that lad's jib. Simmo pulled off some very good saves, but I thought it was Bachmann in goal first half.

Patto is at Blackpool now. Didn't Rory throw a corner back into play? Not the usual Delap bomb we're used to and Dowd made him retake it but was very funny.

There never was going to be a Rory throw in unfortunately, Radio Stoke mentioned afterwards that he's got a back issue & he'd of never been able to manage his legendary showpiece. Ah well, confined to memory or Season Review Nostalgia now!!

Brilliant night, is this the first testimonial Stoke have given anybody? I'm 26 and I can't remember any others - I'm sure somebody will know.
Great night.

I was having this discussion with me lad on the way to the ground. The last one I remember was George Berrys when we played Vale. When he got subbed he came and stood in the Boothen End, I think that was the early 90's. Sure we played Everton in one too.

Testimonials are such a rare thing these days. Ryan is coming up to 10 years after this next season I think. Glenn can't be far behind either.

Last one I went to was Ian Cranson's against Everton. Wasn't that the last game at the Vic? Or second to last. Apparently so, I'd got it in my head it was 12 months earlier. Can remember Cranson being the best centre half on the pitch for the half hour or so he was on and Barmby's goal but nothing else.
