Yes. It must be gutting for Hooky (not to mention making him increasingly liakely to implode at the bitterness and frustration of it all) that New Order have moved on without him quite successfully. After all, it was he who left New Order, not the other way around. I fail to see why Hooky thinks New Order should stop just because he left. It's like Pink Floyd all over. Curtis & Barrett, then Hook & Waters both leaving in a massive huff... It is, but I just can't understand Peter Hook's logic. He left New Order in 2007 by announcing that the band had finished, although the other members of the band said that he'd left, that the band wasn't finished. Hooky nicked the naming rights for "The Hacienda", too, from under the noses of Barney, Steve and Gillian even though they'd all forked out over £40,000 per week seemingly for eons. Hooky seems to be living proof that "Face Up" is a lyrically astounding song.

Fair play. New Order released their new album today. "Music Complete." I've been mulling over that and it's a bit good. Think "Low Life" meets "Technique." I'll listen out for that. I've followed Peter Hook's angle more closely than Barney and co.'s. They've always strayed a bit too far into Electronic, Pet Shop Boys territory for my taste. I think I'm going to another Peter Hook and the Light show soon, it might even be a 'LowLife' & 'Brotherhood' show. I'll have to check up. The more I listen to New Order stuff I think I only ever really'tolerated' Barney's singing. It's what stops the tracks from really standing the test of time for me. Fantastic tunes. There's only a handful of tracks where he truly carries it off. And rarely if ever sounded any good live. I lost patience and the desire to 'tolerate' the voice after Technique. I'm pretty oblivious to anything after that. I love 'In A Lonely Place', musically and atmospherically it would have been brilliant to have heard a Curtis delivery of that. This thread took me on a google of the BBC interviews of NO and the 'Blue Monday' Recipe clip. Good stuff, Hooky talks about the tentative vocals on 'Movement', again it would have been stunning with Ian Curtis vocals, but Hooky growls it up in his new interpretation of it. Brill.

Still not fully convinced by the new album, not offensive, I wouldn't switch it off if it came on the radio or owt. Not enough growl for my liking. Another Factory thing with a spanking bass from '85 or so. Remindesd me of it listening to the 'People in the High line' NO track.
Mindblowing:

I'll listen out for that. Cheers for that Paul. It's a bit wonky, I'm not sure what to think. I'm running at it 30 years too late I reckon. I should perhaps have left that unopened, kept it as an imagination thing. I used to collect bootleg tapes of JD and NO gigs, New Order live at the Tollworth Leisure Centre through the mixing desk was always a touch legendary. There was a JD bootleg from Paradiso Amsterdam that may have had Ceremony and In a Lonely Place on it. Again pretty ropey. Many moons ago, hazy memories. I'm beginning to think I suffered Factory overload and have blown me New Order gasket. I'm still completely ambivalent towards the new New Order stuff, and only lasted 15 minutes or so on the red button to Maida Vale before it started to grate. * made a hash of that quatation.

I do get know what you mean. I'm just not a fan of him as a person for what he's done to the rest of the band and for somehow blaming them for him leaving - which is mad. It was his choice. Musically I always loved Electronic and the rest. I do miss the Hooky bass line but let's face it - that's what he brought to the band. Gillian, Steve and Barny write the main chords. But anyway - "Lonesome Tonight" is one of my faves along with "In a lonely place" and "True Faith".

New Order were a massive part of me formative ears but this kind of stuff bothers me.
Banana fucking rama lacking the lyrical integrity.
Without Hooky's backbone this seems to be where they're heading. Heaven forfend.

New Order are up for the Mercury Music Prize with "Music Complete". That's how much the "daft sod" is being missed. Dont forget - Hooky left New Order to be a tribute act.

I was being a bit facetious about your Gillian/Steven creative force comment. I've spent a bit of time listening to 'Complete', some good tunes, particularly like 'People in the high line'. It hasn't really grabbed me. There's nowt dodgy about The Light, he's doing a growlier take on JD and NO with two basses and a young band. I never got to see JD and seeing The Light at the Ritz is about as close as it gets. But it was a congregation of new recruits and old acolytes and continues the 'Transmission' template that rawer edge. Early NO {'Temptation' 'Everything's Gone Green', 'Blue Monday' 'Confusion' etc}, it grabbed my attention and forced me into awkward dance shapes. They were juggernauts. This latest stuff is too polite for me. When once there was diffidence it's now just a bit lacklustre. I'm not really arsed about who left who etc, like I'm not bothered that Jimi Hendrix was nobbing Mrs Miles Davis behind his back. I don't judge either of thir music in that context. Though they did both improve as a result of the cross pollination. I like the way Hooky stays true to the balls of Joy Division. I'm not renewing my New Order fan club membership this year but I might go and jump about to a new JD facsimilie. If Hooky starts doing Revenge and Monaco stuff I'll probably completely let go. Thirty years of backing tapes and practice and they havn't really improved. Rarely any cop live.

On my way to Berlin right now to see NO on Wednesday.
Looks like I'm in for a treat if last night's show in Stockholm is anything to go by.
PS: Peter Hook is a massive jebend.

Just set foot back in Stoke after 4 days of pilsner und currywürst.
NO were fucking fantastic - cracking set nicely balanced between old and new (Your Silent Face got an airing along with Lonesome Tonight!).
Even managed to replace the Power, Corruption and Lies t-shirt an ex-bird fucked off with 15 years ago!

Went to the Wolves Civic on Tuesday night and it was a cracking gig, Barney was on form and the voice was good and he looked like he was enjoying himself. Have to say that Stephen Morris is just fucking superb though, driving the set with his pounding drums.
Don't know what it is about Gillian but i'd slip her one, no idea why (sorry Steve) But for the ultimate moody fuckable girl in rock, it's Simone Butler from Primal Scream, she is fucking sexy.
Back to the gig, they played the best stuff from the new album and a great set of old ones, Bizarre Love Triangle was a highlight. Nice Encore with two Joy Division tracks with Ian Curtis up on the screens which was very moving, then Blue Monday to finish. Still life in the old dog yet.

Is the anyone else who has had such a popular, yet grass roots, influence on the music scene in a city, whilst retaining their social class as Anthony H Wilson?
