Ian Curtis was an awesome (and, of course, sadly tragic) front man - not so sure about his dancing though! Interestingly enough Curtis wrote 'Control' about a woman who suffered from epilepsy (like Curtis did) who he used to see each week at the Job Centre where he worked (Curtis was a Civil Servant)..and all of a sudden..she dissappeared. Very strange & true.

Almost forgot. FAC28 Joy Division Komakino Was that the flexi disc that came out at about the time of 'Transmission'. A one sided two track freebie black flexi disc featuring 'Incubation' too. I felt priviliged being given one {of them} in Replay Records Tunstall in about '79/80. A reward for my youthful devotion.

It was the combination of Curtis's Bipolar Disorder and his epilepsy medication that led to his suicide. That combination would not be given today.

Yeah it's a charity record doing the rounds up here in Mancland for the local Christie's Hospital and for cancer research. It's got anybody who's anybody linked to Factory and Manchester on it. They do things a bit differently up here in Manchester! You can get it on iTunes though.

Reunited in a Day.
Probably my favourite version of one of my favourite New Order songs.

It's 'Closer', and particularly 'Atrocity Exhibition' that's doing it at the moment.

Fair play.
New Order released their new album today. "Music Complete." I've been mulling over that and it's a bit good. Think "Low Life" meets "Technique."

I've followed Peter Hook's angle more closely than Barney and co.'s. They've always strayed a bit too far into Electronic, Pet Shop Boys territory for my taste. I think I'm going to another Peter Hook and the Light show soon, it might even be a 'LowLife' & 'Brotherhood' show. I'll have to check up. The more I listen to New Order stuff I think I only ever really'tolerated' Barney's singing. It's what stops the tracks from really standing the test of time for me. Fantastic tunes. There's only a handful of tracks where he truly carries it off. And rarely if ever sounded any good live. I lost patience and the desire to 'tolerate' the voice after Technique. I'm pretty oblivious to anything after that. I love 'In A Lonely Place', musically and atmospherically it would have been brilliant to have heard a Curtis delivery of that. This thread took me on a google of the BBC interviews of NO and the 'Blue Monday' Recipe clip. Good stuff, Hooky talks about the tentative vocals on 'Movement', again it would have been stunning with Ian Curtis vocals, but Hooky growls it up in his new interpretation of it. Brill.

I love "In a lonely place". I remember buying "Substance 1987" as a kid and loving the entire second CD. "Lonesome Tonight" is beautiful. I'm more of a Barney fan. Which isn't to say I don't like Hooky coz I do. I just can't help thinking Hooky (as much as I love him) got things wrong the second he took the copyright from the Hacienda and wouldn't share the royalties. It's harsh considering all of New Order were putting £400k a month into it towards the end. As for Hooky now...it's sad to see him turn into a tribute act and not do anything creative. Barney's always tried new stuff - Electronic, Pet Shop Boys, Chemical Brothers, etc. Musically, for me, Barney's the icon. Along with Gillian just coz she's so dry humoured.

I havn't a clue about the contractual wranglings, just judging it personally based on music for me. I think I clung to New Order as a youth thinking they'd fulfill or even surpass the JD thing. Some real highlights but around the time of 'Bizarre Love Triangle' I pretty much lost interest. 'Lonesome Tonight' is fantastic, one of my faves. 'Thieves Like Us' is mint too. Double A 12". Taped both tracks onto a compilation for the walkman on bus rides through the Peaks. Summer vibe. I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to owt by them after that. Peter Hook's 'Revenge' were terrible. Good cover 'art'. I can't remember if Monaco were owt special, though I did see them several times.

5-8-6 Power, Corruption & Lies Who would have thought that with some slight modifications and a different title this song would become the UKs biggest ever selling single !!

The Jarvis Cocker 'Blue Monday Recipe' to mark 30 years since it's release! is an interesting listen. An American mate was sending Barney Disco tapes. He recreated elememts of his favourite tracks {Donna Summer, Sylvester} on his home made synth to create it.
Probably the best NO cover:

I had "Music Complete" on heavy rotation yesterday (Friday was official release day). It it is brilliant. A cross between "Low Life" and "Technique". I love 1993's "Republic" but this is better than that.
