Just want to highlight the potential misuse of statistics. From season 2000/1 to 2007/8 Stoke had spent a total of £5.4m on transfer fees, at the end of 2007/8 they had been promoted to the PL. Aston Villa between the same period had spent £89.1m Newcastle £151.8m Sunderland £145.6m It's possible to see how basically unprepared Stoke were for PL football compared to the above three teams. From seasons 2008/9 to 2012/13 the transfer fees were as follows: Aston Villa £161.0m Sunderland £132.2m Stoke £96.2m Newcastle £91.1m Whether Tony Pulis wasted some money is debatable, what isn't debatable is the massive catching up we had to do to get anywhere near to being a competent PL side. Also lets have a discussion later about who you really are and your connections shall we later? Regards. This could be fun

Looks like TPs screwed up. A couple more weeks and he could have gone for the Everton job....

I stopped watching at 2-0 - but Gateshead were by far the better team in the first half until the Baggies scored the first in 1st half stoppage time. Don't suppose there'll ultimately be any complaints at a 7-0er though! Simon Brotherton ?@simonbrotherton Not sure how West Brom are 2 up here, Gateshead the better team in the 1st half. Tony Pulis came down to the touch line after only 15 mins.

Must admit I'm not buying TP's "WBA is the toughest challenge in 23 years of management" blag in the papers this morning. Tougher than Palace? Really? Palace had 4 points in total and were dead in the water when TP joined. WBA are not in the relegation zone at all, have a decent squad and are only 4 points off bloody 12th

Reckons this is the biggest challenge of his 23 year career according to the papers this morning. WBA are 4 points off 12th for fucks sake, they could be 12th by Saturday week! I'm one of his biggest fans but if he intends to keep WBA up and then claim it as some kind of Harry Houdini act I'm not buying

I doubt they would have gone down before he took over.

Disingenuous in the extreme from TP.

It'll all end in tears this one will.
A head strong coach coupled with a no-nonsense chairman is only going to end up one way.

His biggest challenge appears to be spending the millions of pounds he's received from Stoke, Palace and WBA. Good luck to him, he's earned it (before anyone suggests that was a dig at TP).

“This is my biggest challenge because the club has been on the slide and dropped off a bit since Roy Hodgson left [in 2012],”
Conveniently ignoring their 8th place finish in 2013.

Please, can't any need to discussTP's latest pronouncements be addressed on the board of the club that he currently manages? I doubt that we are the first thing in his thoughts these days.

Yes, people should put down the subject matter in the thread title so people know what they are going to see in the thread. Bloody useless some people.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if he's gone by Easter, as seems more going on behind the scenes than been let on but we'll see.
Be interesting to see his take on us when we meet later in the year at the Hoofthorns but it'll go something like......massive club, great chairman, established premier league side, played in Europe, got to FA Cup Final, quality players blah blah blah.
Lol lol

It's how he works, he spent years trying to convince us we didn't really belong in this league and were lucky to be playing the massive teams we were.

Expect this to be deleted like my Pulis thread earlier was. It's getting a bit tideous now though isn't it? We don't need a new thread everytime he has an interview or press conference! We all know he talks shite 99% of the time to the media "Marc Wilson is the best left back in the country"

I doubt they would have gone down before he took over. That's exactly what he's trying to do. He was on the other day saying what a massive job they have on staying in this league. He's lowering their expectations so if he does keep them up everyone else will be wanking themselves into a frenzy, saying that he is the second coming. It's what he does best. Trouble is after a while the West Brom fans will get fucking sick of hearing it and it will all end in tears.
