Ha ha ha ha ha pmsl. It's all down to luck that Hughes out performs his hero. There is fuck all on the box tonight but this level of comedy more than makes up for it. Hilarious stuff. Out performed him??????? ERm..........Hughes hasn't taken the club from no man's land to the land of milk and honey against all the odds, kept them there (easily) when the whole fucking world bet on us going back down after one season, got us to numerous quarter finals, FA cup semi (5 fucking nil yes 5 FUCKING NIL v Bolton!!!!) and European football for the first time in quarter of a century or more. Outperformed...................................I hope he does one day but he's got a very, very, long way to go yet. TP will do a fantastic job at WBA and will always be the greatest (along with Waddo) Stoke City manager in our history. Happy New Year! Against all the odds? We did what West Brom, Hull, Palace, QPR, Swansea, Cardiff, Burnley, to name a few - all clubs of our 'ilk' - did, and got to the Premier League. We made an FA Cup Final, granted. The first good side we came up against we lost to. Once promoted,Tony preceded to have his transfer kitty 'lined' in a way that many, many managers could only dream of. So you could argue that he should have succeeded in keeping us up, having spent what he did - because to stay up you really just need to out-perform last years promoted Championship sides. Surely any half-decent manager with a massive, open wallet could manage that?? I personally hope he gets relegated with West Brom, and hopefully we can start to lay to rest this myth that he's some kind of footballing Demi-God. We owe way more to Peter Coates for where we sit today. I reckon that with the same financial backing Peter gave, a number of managers that would have 'come to Stoke' would have achieved comparable results.

Pulis without doubt raises temperatures on this board! Most popular manager in recent times? Not for me, I would say Macari, everyone was behind him, most successful? Pulis without a doubt, so far......,am I currently watching the best football since 73,74,75 under Hughes? yes no contest. Happy new year Stokies, live in the here and now, not the past.

Even Brian Little acheived 8 wins on the bounce whilst riding their luck then that didn't last. Come on lads take thee blinkers off. So what your saying is we are 11th in the league through luck ? and got our highest place finish last season through luck. He's a grade A balloon or mentally ill, I can't make my mind up which. BM

I think he means that Hughes finished above where Tony ever finished last season. It was his first season too, then again no doubt you knew that. Ah well, he'll be along shortly trying convince himself that he's right in everything he says whilst giving no one else's thoughts belly room. I've asked for your thoughts on the football many times but you ignore it or change the subject. That leads me to conclude you haven't got any. No point giving my thoughts because everyone I give you don't accept them then start overriding them with your own, which by the way is fine but when you acknowledge the square root of fcuk all then it becomes both a chore and pointless.

I think Hughes is a fantastic manager. I'm delighted he's in charge. I think Pulis is a fantastic manager. I'm delighted he was in charge when he was.
Currently Pulis has achieved more than Hughes for us, but bugged has been here for a fraction of the time and his record so far is damn good.

Best of Luck TP, hope you are successful in your new job. Thanks for what you did at Stoke, genuine fans will always be grateful for what you did for us. Your name will never be erased from Stoke's triumphal return to top flight football, first FA Cup final and return to European football after 4 decades. Reference was made on Oatcake recently to Stoke's top class spine : Bego, Ryan, N'Zonzi, and now Bojan. Take a bow Tony, and once again, THANKS.

Just want to highlight the potential misuse of statistics.
From season 2000/1 to 2007/8 Stoke had spent a total of £5.4m on transfer fees, at the end of 2007/8 they had been promoted to the PL.
Aston Villa between the same period had spent £89.1m Newcastle £151.8m Sunderland £145.6m
It's possible to see how basically unprepared Stoke were for PL football compared to the above three teams.
From seasons 2008/9 to 2012/13 the transfer fees were as follows:
Aston Villa £161.0m Sunderland £132.2m Stoke £96.2m Newcastle £91.1m
Whether Tony Pulis wasted some money is debatable, what isn't debatable is the massive catching up we had to do to get anywhere near to being a competent PL side.

Well he's been confirmed now, anyway, on a two and a half year deal.
I've got mixed feelings about it, really. Sure, it's funny and somewhat satisfying that the former Brazilians have cast aside their principles of boring tippy tappy for direct pragmatism, having implicitly admitted that we were right all along, but we won't be getting the comedy West Brom relegation show that I was hoping for and we will be suffering the most effective side they've had for years. Oh well, good luck to TP.
From a West Brom perspective, they must think that their club is being run by amateurs. They invested in the stupid European hierarchy, appointed a dreadful manager on the basis that he's a good coach, piled all the blame on him when he went wrong and then, four months into the season, they completely shit it and sack him. Fifth from bottom, with several worse teams around them, they decide to go with the relegation specialist to save them from an unlikely disaster, abandoning most of their new structure in the process.

I don't even have mixed feelings, I think this is bad news. A few short term laughs at WBA's apparent about turn will in no way compensate for the utterly depressing sight of them shooting up the league table if that is unfortunately what now happens.

Its a real quandary for me being the one who coined the phrase "the capped one" as sort of a derogatory term.
I cannot forget the amazing feeling of promotion, cup final and europe but equally in the latter period equally this man made me dread sitting in my seat at the games due to his monotony in respect of tactics and personnel and for that I can never forgive him.
I also detest the idea of people wishing him luck at other clubs, the only time I wished him luck was when he was manager of our club and I couldn't give a monkeys about him now and as I've said on twitter I actually hope he fails at West Brom gets them relegated and we hear very little more about him.

And let's sympathise with them when they have to sit and watch the worst of Pulisball which we had to endure for far longer than the brief period we had Pennant and Etherington on fire. They weren't asking us how we could watch that shit for nothing and the beauty of it is that they now get what they hated. You couldn't make it up could you?

TP got us promoted from the weakest Championship in years (we were jostling with Bristol City FFS), and we broke our transfer record not once but twice.

There is something beautiful in opening up complaining about the misuse of statistics and then producing as selective and incomplete set of numbers as it is possible in order to paint a completely misleading picture as possible. I haven't the time or will to highlight all the distortions in this propaganda (and that is what it is from someone who claims to be a non Stoke neutral) but dear Geoff start by adding in the non transfer fee spends you have ignored from the first two seasons of the second coming and we will take it from there later. Pulis did a very good job not a miracle as you would have us believe Geoff. Also lets have a discussion later about who you really are and your connections shall we later? Regards.
