Even Brian Little acheived 8 wins on the bounce whilst riding their luck then that didn't last. Come on lads take thee blinkers off. You need to remove your Pulis tinted specs , he was sacked eighteen months ago by Peter Coates, we have not fared too badly since despite the limited funds now available to Hughes, yes Pulis was the right man at the right time given the huge investment afforded to him by PC, he failed to kick on after the FA Cup final and we stagnated as a club playing some fuck awful football despite spending vast sums of money on players he did not how to utilise properly. He has now moved on to West Brazil where I am sure his footballing ethics will be hugely appreciated by the purist samba boys from rio de smethick, he will keep them up with ease and if he is given all his own way he may even stop for a second season, if not he will walk out taking his toys with him as he did at Palace.
Nowt to do with Pulis tinted specs, none at all.

One of the myths that has gained traction on this board is that Tony Pulis couldn't take Stoke any further or couldn't manage a bigger club, it's plain nonsense.
Tony Pulis had almost certainly told the Stoke Board what he thought was needed, but in their wisdom they chose to go down another route.
Luckily Peter Coates chose a good replacement in Mark Hughes, if he had got it wrong we could have been in big trouble.

Tony ended up down the road because Peter had had enough of being told 'what was needed' by a bloke who spent someone else's money like it was going out of fashion, on players that were actually out of fashion.

So Whelan is allegedly a target. Not surprised given he is out of contract.
If Whelan wants out I'd swap him for Mulumbu in a flash. I think he's also out of contract.

Pulis couldn't take Stoke any further because his methods of management weren't sustainable for a club of our size and that is why he was sacked. He has also yet to land a job at a bigger club so the jury is still out on that one as well.

Telling the board what he thought was needed doesn't mean he was right. What evidence is there that he could take Stoke further or that he could manage a bigger club?

Ermmmmmmmmmmm, fortunate that a whole lot more haven't been conceded so if that affects the 11th place then you decide.

One of the many myths that had traction on this board while TFP was still here was that as soon as he went we'd 'do a Charlton'... Others were - We have to play this way, it's the only way to survive We have to spend a fortune in tansfers, it's the only way to survive We have to park the bus away and in 'bonus' games at home, it's the only way to survive All of them total and utter bollocks as MH is proving beyond any reasonable doubt.

It's all down to luck that Hughes out performs his hero.
There is fuck all on the box tonight but this level of comedy more than makes up for it. Hilarious stuff.

I always follow your posts sid, you have a knack of hitting the nail on the head, but on Pulis you are wrong.
The Premier League is about money and although Mark Hughes has done really well he knows that Stoke will have to spend sooner rather than later.
MH achieved 50 points last season, TP's best season was 47 points, so hardly any difference.
If Stoke want to climb the table on a regular basis they will have to compete in the transfer market, whoever the manager is.
Anyway, happy new year to you and yours.

Well we've certainly been sloppy in earlier home games (villa , burnley, leicester) all of these teams beat us with barely more than two attempts each , you could easily argue that we were unlucky in that respect ! I would agree we don't look as defensively strong as we did under your god , but it's pretty hard to when your not playing what looks like a 6 2 1 1 system

I was impressed rob with your comment that as chief you were going to be about quality rather than quantity, don't let yourself down on the last day of the year.
Happy new year to you and yours and I always read your reports, I don't comment on them because I don't attend games, so I want to avoid you constantly reminding me of that.

There's competing in the transfer market Geoff and then there is spending millions of pounds on players to make your winning formula a non winning formula. Happy New Year to yourself as well Geoff let's hope 2015 is even more successful for SCFC.

Actually Geoff 'attending' games never game into it. It was watching them. As in not the highlights, the actual games, either in the flesh, in the pub or on a stream. You obviously don't read them closely enough.

We should look to swap with West Brom in all honesty. Could be mutually beneficial swaps for both clubs if done right. I've always liked Pulis and what he did for Stoke. If anything we know he's a stand up guy and we can work with him. This is a good appointment for us in dealings with them in my opinion and it could allow us to move on and free up some wages. You know Pulis will be in for Glenn, Crouch and Walters. Question is who would we want from the Brummies?

ERm..........Hughes hasn't taken the club from no man's land to the land of milk and honey against all the odds, kept them there (easily) when the whole fucking world bet on us going back down after one season, got us to numerous quarter finals, FA cup semi (5 fucking nil yes 5 FUCKING NIL v Bolton!!!!) and European football for the first time in quarter of a century or more. Outperformed...................................I hope he does one day but he's got a very, very, long way to go yet. TP will do a fantastic job at WBA and will always be the greatest (along with Waddo) Stoke City manager in our history. Happy New Year!

Best of luck to the Capped One. He did Stoke and himself proud during his time as manager and I see no reason why he shouldn't have the respect he deserves.
Onward and Upwards in 2015. Happy 2015 to all Oatcake contributors.

Ah well, he'll be along shortly trying convince himself that he's right in everything he says whilst giving no one else's thoughts belly room.

From the WBA MB,
"We got no worries now... We start time wasting from the first minute and then spend 90 mins breaking up play and ruining a football match. The opposition get frustrated and eventually make a mistake and we sneak a goal.... Can't wait.. Oh no I can and will avoid games until he goes..."
HNY Baggies - boing boing... ;-)
