Bit of a gruelling day on day 3. The Indians have their collective backs to the wall and they were fighting all the way - good on them. Kohli has the the makings of a solid captain and played a captain's knock when it was needed however, I have to say that that the scoring rate during the first session was a measly 57 runs. It's enough to send the most ardent cricket fan to sleep. Australia on the other hand didn't help the cause with their poor catching, albeit aided and abetted by the overhead 'Spidercam' wiring system. I think we might head more of the use of that technology sooner rather than later. The bright spot was that Watto snared a couple of wickets at the end of the day. He was in fact on a hat trick. The ACB must step in some time to do something about the state of the drop in wickets. This strip bears no resemblance to SCG wickets of old. If nothing is done then the World Cup will turn into a batsman's paradise and the bowlers will be looking around for a more satisfying vocation. After says all of that I'm about to make my way to to the ground and watch another chapter roll out. I still can't see any way that either side will get anything out the match other than a draw, that is unless the wicket starts to fall apart or there is a contrived ending. 'Pink Day' was a roaring success and I'm sure that the McGrath Foundation will have reaped in the money to support their efforts to combat Breast Cancer.

This series is like Groundhog Day.
Every test Australia have posted a first innings scored of 500+, India 400+. Second innings has seen Australia pushing home that advantage against a poorer 2nd innings batting performance from India.
Which takes us to the close of day 4 of the fourth test with the game poised at pretty much the same point as the third test - what will Australia do tomorrow morning though? Bat on, like they did last time out and run out of time to bowl out India or declare early (overnight?) and say a lead of 350 odd is plenty to defend. I suspect they'll bat for 40 mins or so to take the lead past 400 then declare.
Odds on for a 3-0 win for a very impressive Australia team.

You've chosen a good time for an extended leave - the weather is distinctly wintery just now. Very wet, very windy and very cold while I was playing football this lunchtime at Glasgow Green; but my team win by 5 goals so I was quite happy! For the cricket, ESPNCricinfo is your best bet for news. But if you're looking for some vitriol; I'm your man! England start again soon - and things are going to get really interesting! Edit; btw, always (well mostly!) wear the red and white stripes when I'm playing as on this occasion captured in my Blipfoto photo blog a few months ago

A sensational series that was closer than the end result suggests. The Indian team, under their new captain Kohli, improved as the series rolled on. What a revelation he was both as a batsman and as a Captain. There is much more to come from this team I'm sure. The improvement in the tail end performance was marked in the SCG test and could quite easily have won the match if it hadn't been for an extraordinary day 4 last session where over 200 runs were scored by the Australian middle order. A successful T20 strategy within a test? That was something new to enjoy.
Steve Smith not only won the man of the series but also went past Don Bradman's record aggregate in an Australian v's Indian series. Sir Don's average, however, was not overhauled. At over 178 I'm not sure it will be in the near future either. So, there you have it. The record books will tell of a series win to Australia, but for those who had the pleasure of watching the series it was in all honesty a very close run race. Either side could have taken the podium at different times during the 4 tests. Now it's a change of pace and style with the Tri Series just around the corner.
A positive coming out of the match was that the young quickies are finding their rhythm and not a small slice of confidence too, That alone will make the Tri Series and the World Cup most interesting to follow.

I'm not sure how to assess the quality of this series. Seems that Australian batsman had an easy time of things against a weak Indian bowling attack and easy pitches. Have Australia ever scored 500+ in every 1st innings of a test in a series greater than 3 tests. And their bowling couldn't sort out India's tail in two successive tests - OK the third test they did themselves no favours with a poor declaration, but when they declared overnight in the last test, I was sure with their bowling attack on a day 5 pitch they would win. So maybe India have discovered new found touring resilience. Or Australia's bowling attack flatters to deceive? How do you see England faring against these sides? On the face if it, not very well. But you never know. Our bowling attack will ask more questions. Our batting could be dynamic! Looking forward to finding out.
