And say it as it is. Very poor today. Agreed momo it was his worst game for us for a very long time and he was very very lucky not to concede a penalty but he has plenty in the bank .

Very lucky boy today not to have a booking for his incessant holding of Caulker, although the footage on TV seemed to focus on it more than any other player (and it was happening to Crouch a fair bit) it is still an unnecessary booking waiting to happen. Ryan is a good enough defender not to have to maul players away from the ball.

In my opinion Shawcross is the worst offender for grappling in the box and it's something that Hughes needs to have a word with him about.

I think there needs to be serious changes in the way we coach our players defensively. We have been making very poor decisions since before the season started in that area of the pitch and there doesn't look to be half the confidence, communication or cohesion that we know our players are capable of.

If he'd have been concentrating on his man instead of trying to fucking maul him he might have jumped better and not left him clear.....he was poor today and his his distribution was wank.

Today proved that he is not the man for England! They will probably highlight the holding on M.O.D.

Today proved that he is not the man for England! They will probably highlight the holding on M.O.D. As the game ended the commentators were suggesting that the holding 'debate' needed addressing in terms of penalising players. You just know they meant Ryan and not every other defender who does it week in and week out. Doesn't negate the fact that Ryan, as Captain, shouldn't exercise more control though!

Apart from his holding (which he always does anyway) and his rash challenge, what did he do today that was so wank?

We'd be giving more away if he didn't, he wasn't strong enough for the first goal if he was they wouldn't have scored, how many penos has he given away doing it, its worth the risk.

Someone needs to teach him how to defend properly once again
plainly, he seems to have forgotten
Hes our captain -our leader - our rock
BUT grappling with the opponent having not the least interest in the football or , where it is - belongs in Seria A - not the premier league
piss poor he should have to even think about doing it
and it'll cost us - sooner or later
as I said on another thread -they ALL want their arses kicking for one thing or another after today - this was Ryans

I don't understand what you're saying. We concede shit loads from set pieces and have done for a while now. The reason why we conceded their first today was because Ryan was to pre-occupied with holding and grappling with Caulker than actually doing his job of staying goal side and beating him in the air. He isn't the only defender at it,but in my opinion it stops them from concentrating on what they should be doing and that showed today.

Conceding a lot of corners etc has got nothing to do with his holding, hes been doing that since he got here.

He made a mistake today and it cost us a goal.
Fortunately, his mistakes only come around once a season.

There are far worse culprits for holding attackers in the box in The Premiership than Shawcross

After today's performance I think Ryan is going to be a marked man. Opponents will be screaming at the ref and he is in danger of being sent off in future matches.

Looked absolutely ridiculous on the BT coverage today, and a penalty waiting to happen Sort it out Ryan

After today's performance I think Ryan is going to be a marked man. Opponents will be screaming at the ref and he is in danger of being sent off in future matches. I do believe that it will be highlighted to a point that referees will be forced to take action. It goes on all over the premiership and eventually, like diving, refs will start taking action. Trouble is the only action the ref will be able to take is to award a penalty to the opposition. Shawcross does himself no favours at all,and it's not needed because he is good enough not to do it.

Which player in the Prem gets held most at corners - answer Peter Crouch How many penalties does Crouchy get?? Crouch doesn't get anywhere near the amount of fouls given for him that he should. I think refs just think he is unfoulable(is that even a word?)because he is so big and awkward? On a side note he was superb today.
