Forecast is for winds to reach 36mph this evening
Anyone know the wind speed when our game v West Brom was called off?
South West Wind to hit West stand (and away support)

There won't be too many away supporters Paul.

There won't be too many away supporters Paul. Not too worried about them ha ha! But that exposed gap by the tunnel was causing problems during the last game - with the ball moving from the spot. If the ball won't stop on it's spot then the game can't start! Met office now issued Red (highest alert) for westerley wind

Everton ?everton 9m For those asking, we are aware of the forecast and will monitor throughout the day. At this stage the game is very much on. #EFCEverton are "monitoring" things by the looks of it for their game. If we do get 60mph gusts, it is going to be farcical.

If the forecast is anything to go by, I'd say the chances of it actually being on are fairly slim. I imagine they'll be monitoring the situation this afternoon.

It's blowing a gale out there already and it's supposed to get worse later.

I hope it's off as I am just getting over man flu and doubt a trip up there tonight will aid my recovery much.

36 mph is the mean speed with gusts to 100 mph in places.

Be a real shame if it is off.
With Man City and Arsenal to follow our position could look even more precarious than it already is in a couple of weeks’ time.
If so it would also see the doom and gloom mongers back out in force on here.

BBC has wind speed peaking at 34 mph 6pm - 7pm, tailing off thereafter. If my arithmetic is correct 34 mph is 15.2 metres per second which on the Beaufort Scale is a 'Near Gale'.
By 8pm the forecast is 28 mph (12.5 metres/sec) = a 'Strong Breeze'
Touch and go I'd say

Also, I'd hazard a guess that the winds aren't that strong according to the Beaufort Scale at present but they'd still be enough to ruin a game of football. However, I think I'd rather we won 1-0 in absolutely dire conditions and have another 3 points behind us than go into the Man City and Arsenal games with shit hanging out of our arses in fear because tonight gets called off and other teams take advantage.

Please keep an update at the top of the MB. So much flooding within twenty minutes of here - Staines, Chertsey, Shepperton etc - and couldn't bare for our car to be turned back, en route. No absurdly late posponement, please, if you're reading, SCFC!

For the New Years Day match at The Brit against Everton there was some worry about the weather. The forecast then was for wind speeds from 21mph up to 41mph! So very similar to the forecast for today i think. So if that's owt to go by i can't see there being a problem with regards the game going ahead. Edit: Copying and pasting from the thread about the weather for that match, here was the forecast back then.... BBC still has it up to 26mph BBC Weather Met Office UK has it up to 23mph Met Office UK Weather online has it up to 26mph UK Weather AccuWeather has it up to 31 mph AccuWeather Weather Online UK has it up to 37mph! Weather Online MetCheck has it between 18-40mph (hedging their bets a bit there!) MetCheck Forecast.co.uk has it up to 25mph Forecast.co.uk NetWeather is another variable with a whopping 29-49mph in speed! NetWeather This one seems way of with 16mph! Weather Cast MSN has it at up to 24mph MSN Weather oatcakefanzine.proboards.com/thread/224435/weather-wednesday#ixzz2t6tcU86V

See those windbreakers in the corners (see stadium corners thread) would be useful! If it is cancelled it will be on health and safety grounds rather than the wind affecting the game IMO - i.e. the risk of structural damage inside the stadium, as such I reckon windbreakers would only add to the problem bizarrely.

The club will hopefully let us know mid afternoonish because the forecast is very poor there is no other way of glossing over that. If the 65-70 mph gusts are true then imagine that as a spectacle or even keeping the ball still for dead balls etc

Aside our own long-distance travellers, you'd hope, given the commitment required to travel all the way from Swansea, midweek too, that they will take the earliest decision possible just so the away fans don't end up spending big on fuel etc to have to go back at about Keele
I visit Swansea quite often and it's a big enough distance, and long trip, from Nottm let alone Stoke
