Martin Spinks ?@mspinks10 Sunderland playing hard ball over Cattermole at the moment. Nervous about selling to relegation rival, or just trying to up the figures? I imagine they just don't want to sell to a relegation rival. They could however string us along and keep our transfer team tied up all day preventing other deals from advancing... How devious.. we are hardly relegation rivals the mood from idiots around here is we are already down

I don't particularly rate Cattermole but let's face it. It's Deadline Day and we're all ready to party at 11pm with Bob Dorsett.
We'll deal with the reality and the sackings in the morning.

I never thought I'd say these words but I'd prefer the combative Cattermole than the bone idle N Zonzi who can't tackle or close down very well. Cattermole would replace Whelan and rightly so. That's how I see it as well. We need an "enforcer" in midfield - we hoped Palacios could do that job but it is clear that he can't. A Viera type would be great but we can't afford one but someone like Cattermole could add steel to our midfield and hopefully bring out the best in players like N'Zonzi and Ireland/Adam. Cattermole's reputation as a red card waiting to happen is probably over-stated as he has only 2 reds in the Premier League in the past 3 seasons - a big improvement on a few years ago. We do look more fragile than we did a few years back and Cattermole, or someone like him, is needed to help reverse that trend.

MailStoke make improved offer nearer £5m for Sunderland midfielder Cattermole
Sportsmail's Colin Young reports: 'I am hearing there is now an improved offer from Stoke for Lee Cattermole which is closer to £5million.
'It seems the midfielder has not trained at the Academy of Light today. Gus Poyet press conference at two to get confirmation of that.'

If we're willing to bid £5 Million for Cattermole then it makes absolutely no sense that we've not put in a substantial bid for the striker we so desperately crave*

SentinelSTOKE City's hierarchy is quietly confident that significant movement is being made at long last in their long-running quest for Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole.
The two clubs are now engaged in detailed dialogue this afternoon after several days of jousting around the subject.

"With the signing of Liam Bridcutt from Brighton a done deal, Sunderland have shipped midfielder David Vaughan out to Championship side Nottingham Forest until the end of the season, with a view to making the deal permanent"
From the Guardian. Possibly rules out them letting Cattermole go as well?

If it is why have the Chairman down at the training ground? And why would Kemp say we've bid for Ince and it would seem something is going on because he hasn't signed for Palace yet and I thought he would have done by now. I just don't buy it. Really hope I'm right!

Bowen press conference: "It's been well documented we are in discussions with Sunderland about Lee Cattermole. Lee is a player we've admired for a while and it's transfer we're trying to get over the line.
"We've got to be confident we can pull it off. You have to be when you approach a club about any player"
"Sunderland have reached a cup final too so it's a big decision for the player.

MailPoyet hour late for press conference as Cattermole talks with Stoke continue Sportsmail's Colin Young reports: 'Gus Poyet is now nearly an hour late for his press conference. 'Talks on-going with Stoke concerning the possible and probable sale of Lee Cattermole. That might explain the delay.'

You lot seem to be going all out for him, apparently you came in with a bid of around £4m last night and that was dismissed out of hand. Gus says he doesn't want to sell but a 'very impressive' bid came back this morning.
Judging by those words I'd have thought it'd be at least £6m.
