So Walters scores "the simplest of finishes" against a conference side and is suddenly a good option for us to use in the Prem? What about the fact that he had one good performance out of 38 starts last season?
I'm not trying to be negative here, someone had to score and I'm just as happy it's Walters as any other player, however I think that a goal in a game like this does not 'prove the doubters wrong' nor does it give a good excuse to praise him as being a good player for us.
His performances over the past season are surely a better reflection of how ineffective he is as a Premier League player.

Well as we suspected prior to today's game; nothing much has changed because we (at present) are still relying on the same attacking players.
Fairly solid at the back (Pieters positioning is a worry though) and Palacios looked quality in the second half (as did Jermaine in the first 45).
Overall we're the same team but we play it short rather than long. We need pace and we need goal scorers and we need them now.

Surprised that Cuvelier hasn't made more of an impression. Seems pretty clear now that he won't make much of an impression this season. And do we know where Ness is? Edu isn't match fit is he? I think Ness is injured as well??? It may have said something in the sentinel this week, if I remember.

The point I was making was that scoring a simple goal in a friendly against a conference side should not be a reason for people to be excited about a player who performed consistently badly last season. It was not a dig at Walters for only being able to score simple finishes or anything like that. Sorry for the confusion.

Walters is a solid squad player.
Fit, enthusiastic, can score and fulfills defensive duties as well. He is also a utility player.
One of KJ or Crouch need to go. I think KJ will suit us more so Crouch preferably, and if possible, I'd be happy to replace Jerome.

So that's what four games, four goals for and two against ? Considering the opposition that's pretty shit but we look as though we're contempt to just go about our business as we've done for the last few seasons and concentrate on trying not to concede. Surely Hughes isn't stupid and will now be "Insisting" that he wants major funding to get TWO forward thinking players this week.
The style of play under Pulis was terrible and not easy on the eye, a few months of tip tap crap with the wrong results will test us all again I'm sure.

Walters has a role to play. I'd play him at Liverpool when we're undoubtedly gonna be under the cosh for large periods for example. His work rate & athleticism is not to be overlooked. Athleticism? Is that a joke? Are you crazy? He's probably one of if not the fittest player in the squad. He was Tone's dog and he got him off his local butcher.

I can live with the squad we have at Liverpool to get a result (0-0) but can they break a side who will come for a draw? The most likely answer is no. And Agudelo doesn't count!

Don't read too much in to friendlies myself, i'll reserve judgement until christmas Our results up until Christmas last season probably secured our Premiership status imo. We need to make a good start, which means scoring goals. I hope to see and expect some new faces in the squad next week.

Walters is the best of our strikers. We desperately need strikers and wingers. We now find ourselves needing players with 12 days to go and then they would need time to settle. Mark hughes has found out after 360 minutes of pre season that we dont have quality in the final third. Every stoke fan could have told him that 6 weeks ago. Its not knee jurk, its not negative or stiring, its just facts. This squad will be in massive trouble if he thinks we have enough.
Out Crouch - In Loic Remy 2m loan fee paid by crouch going other way. Out etherington & Kightly 1-2m - In Sinclair 4 - 5m Out KJ because in the last year of his contract 2-3m - In Bent 5m
wages out crouch 40k per week. KJ 35k per week. ethers and kights 40k per for the two...saving 115k per week.
wages in loic remy 60 per week. Bent 60k per week. Sinclair 35k per week...155k per week you could reduce Remy and Bent weekly wage by giving them a high signing fee...
Just do it stoke, take back your free bus travel and pay some quality players wages.
Add them to the front line with little expense and we have a chance!!

Athleticism? Is that a joke? Are you crazy? He's probably one of if not the fittest player in the squad. He was Tone's dog and he got him off his local butcher. I wouldn't say he had the right characteristics to be called athletic, he doesn't have any pace, he isn't agile, doesn't have the right build and he has limited movement. But he does have a very good engine/work rate and a normal - stocky build, he's more of a shot putter as appose to a 100 meter sprinter

No I know, but this is all Hughes has to go off, so I wouldn't be surprised if he got the nod over the others, hes done more than any of the other striker options we have in the friendlies, personally I would much prefer to see KJ getting the start against Liverpool.

They failed in 159 minutes of football last season against them, so I aren't overly optimistic. So yeah I think we need them asap. If we don't it isn't a major issue but the sooner the better, as is always the case.
