Oatcake therapy mate. That will be the arthritis condition you've mentioned? A close friend of mine suffers badly, but he's on some newish medication that seems to have made a big difference? Hopefully you're managing to do the same? Anyway, if chatting to prats like me helps, then that can only be a good thing right? And they play so much cricket nowadays (9 weeks till the next Ashes series) there's plenty to chat about! Well the arthritis has been the least of my worries mate .....but that's another story , coming on here has been a big help indeed believe it or not, it's always a pleasure to talk cricket with you and the other enthusiasts on here , its only nine weeks as you say and plenty more cricket to watch in between that, winter does seem shorter these days with some cricket to watch Bloody middle age mate? I don't have any serious ailments, but as soon as I turned 50, various things came along that I have to cope with? I've always been a mild asthmatic, but I had an ear infection 3 years ago that left me with tinnitus which drives me up the wall from time to time. I also get prostatitis which is pretty miserable. Like you say, it's good to chat on this Messageboard, even if on this occasion I've started to sound even more of a moaning old twat than usual?!

Can I be the first to say I don't see the point in 50-over cricket. The only people who seem to care about it are India and Pakistan.

I've only just noticed this but over October the Aussies are playing 7 ODIs and a 20-20 in India before the Ashes start in November. The weird thing is that they play their last ODI over there on the 2nd of November just 19 days before the first test starts.
I would have thought that after a grueling Ashes series and a 3-0 battering that they'd be concentrating on getting some rest and a bit of practice?

Squad announced, fairly happy with it although I feel for Onions not sure what more he could have done? Also harsh on Compton who in my opinion should have been ahead of Carberry in the pecking order.......
England Test squad for Australia: Alastair Cook (Essex, captain), Joe Root (Yorkshire), Jonathan Trott (Warwickshire), Kevin Pietersen (Surrey), Ian Bell (Warwickshire), Gary Ballance (Yorkshire), Michael Carberry (Hampshire), Jonny Bairstow (Yorkshire), Ben Stokes (Durham), Matt Prior (Sussex, vice-captain), Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire), Graeme Swann (Nottinghamshire), James Anderson (Lancashire), Monty Panesar (Sussex, on loan at Essex), Steven Finn (Middlesex), Boyd Rankin (Warwickshire), Chris Tremlett (Surrey).

Does anyone know why they aren't even talking about taking Adil Rashid from Yorkshire along? He's been in England squads previously. He's taken 27 first class wickets this summer (Monty has taken 23). His batting figures look great: 20 Innings, 774 runs @ an average of 51.60 (top score 180) which is better than Bairstow (469 runs @ 42.64) and Carberry (602 @ 40.13). A batting leg spinner would surely help the side. He could bat at 6?

Pretty much what I expected ( pleased about Mony being selected ).....bit of a surprise about Ballance......not sure about Carberry as you say Compton once again harshly treated, that appears to it as far as he is concerned ......it looks a powerful pace attack on the face of it

To be honest mate I don't think he is anywhere near good enough as a bowler to be considered at test level.....he looked impressive a few years ago but he has not pushed on from there and he is not a good enough option with the bat to consider putting him in at Six. Were they ever to think about a spin bowling all rounder ( which they won't ) Samit Patel would be a better option....but as I said that's not going to happen

Years since I remember seeing him play. Well he has had a decent season with the bat for a lower order player .....I'm not sure how he is regarded these days ? A bowler who can bat or vice versa.....I tend to think its something in between
