I know thats him and Cameron now coming out with a similar line, you can see the players were even fed up with the rigidness of the systems tony employed. Its going to be really interesting to see what happens, another thing i hope for is hopefully Mark is interested in having a home "friendly" before the season, so he can be reassured from his reception that night that the fans will get behind him for the season proper.

Good football. He can play but did a lot of long ball hoofing last season. Great that he wants to play football.

The campaign for a midfield spot begins... Hope he gets a chance in there, he's good at pinging a few decent balls around and that spell at full back should of toughened him up a bit and added to his defensive game. |

It will be interesting to see which of our current players can actually play football.
My guess is that Wilson, Cameron, Nzonzi, Whelan, Crouch and Etherington will be able to adapt quite quickly. Huth and Shawx will need more time from Hoofball Rehab. But that's probably about it, unless Brek Shea and Jamie Ness are given regular first team spots. It will be interesitng who Hoilett and Bentley would displace, if the rumours about their possible signings bear fruit. My guess would be Hoilett for Walters and Bentley for Ethers, with Ethers and Brek Shea rotating for the other wing position until Hughesie decides who best fits.

Now i know he wasn't playing in his "best position" wherever that is. What is he supposed to be by the way, a central midfielder is he? Centre Half? Left Back? Physio? Silly Mid Off? Wide Receiver? But for the majority of last season, regardless of where he played and who was in charge of picking him to play there, i thought he was piss poor.
Especially in the few games he appeared in at the tail end of the season, his passing is woeful, with the freak exception of the through ball for Jerome at QPR. I lost count of how many times he didn't just hoof it "aimlessly", but hoofed it out of play, way way too long, scuffed it along the ground straight to an opponent. Now you may blame TP for that if that's what he asked him to do, to hoof it, but playing a diagonal/long ball if you're supposedly a good footballer shouldn't be as difficult as he made it look. So whether Marc Wilson is actually any good at football is debatable, so let's have a debate.
This natural best position for him seems unknown by everyone in all honesty, i've heard and read numerous times that he's apparantly a central midfielder. Well he's played over 80 games for us and how many of them had he played in central midfield? He's always played full back hasn't he? He's played 5 times for Ireland or summat, all at left back? At pompey he played CB did he? That was way back when.
Unless i'm missing summat, besides a brain of course, he must be by some sort of definition a specialist full back now as the last 3 or so years of his career he's played every one of his competitive matches there.
I'm not a fan of his which you may have gathered, TP's fault for forcing a round peg in a square hole perhaps but besides his "trick" he does every game, all he offers is being out of position a lot, losing players, liable to make a mistake whenever the ball or a player (even his own team mates) are within 20 yards of him and like i've mentioned, his distribution at times makes Wilko's look like Glenn Hoddle.
Prove me wrong Marc, if his best position is central midfield and he gets given the chance to play there then i hope he does very well but i don't want to see him play for us as a full back ever again if i'm honest. Oooof, harsh eh?
