Sunderland win as it makes Sunderland 'safe' before their game with us? Also, Villa have fewer points than Sunderland so it keeps the 6 point gap plus goal difference between Villa and us.

Aernt we even more nailed on to be safe with a sunderland win, because both wigan and AVFC cant get three points from their last match ie if they are both below us by the start of the Soton game were safe anyway. Only if there is a one point gap between us and both Villa and Wigan.

Now that we're as good as safe, a villa win surely? If we aren't convinced, a draw.

We arent safe yet and Villa could well go on a run if they win tonight. Wigan are likely to beat Swansea at the weekend and we will most likely lose at Sunderland.
Has o be a draw / Sunderland win on that basis. Safety first after this wretched season.

I can't believe there are still a few twitchy sphincters. I know we're not "mathematically" safe yet, but there's as much chance we'll get dragged-down now as there was of either QPR or Reading escaping before yesterday. And with this in mind, I'd like to see Sunderland get beaten. For no other reason than I like seeing Sunderland get beaten. We're safe. Relax.

Sunderland win for me, as keeping Villa further away from us. Worse result is Villa win.

They could get 6 points from those Three games and then beat Villa on the last day. BM Bugger. I forgot City was the FA Cup. Well, 8 points from West Brom, Swansea and Arsenal and Villa is almost as impossible. Plus they'll have to go for it in the FA Cup, 3 days (?) before facing Arsenal. I read that as Swansea City, not Swansea, City. I would have given you stick if I had noticed because there is only one City and it isn't the arrogant Mancs BM

Sunderland win, so they have nothing to worry about anyone. We need 1 or 2 sides to be cut adrift

Irrelevant - no way on earth will Wigan get to 40 points.
They have shit fixtures sandwiching an FA Cup Final and have lost their two best defenders for the rest of the season.

Thinking ahead, if Wigan could escape relegation at the expense of Villa, i'd say there is a better chance of them being "there or there abouts" next season than Villa. So i'd like Villa to go down!

Irrelevant - no way on earth will Wigan get to 40 points. They have shit fixtures sandwiching an FA Cup Final and have lost their two best defenders for the rest of the season. This. In fact, barring an incredible GD swing, they need 41 points to get past us. That's three wins from four, and I can't see where they're coming from. Villa need two wins and a draw to pass us. Again, I can't see that happening. I don't see the Mags or Norwich picking-up more points than us in the last three either.

Draw would be best for us. Would like Villa to stay up - like the way Lambert is trying to develop his own players and has devised an entertaining 4-3-3. Little progress in league position but must have cut wage bill considerably and given 2-3 seasons and a couple of experienced/quality purchases down their spine they will be a good side. Norwich and Newcastle look poorer and Wigan not having the luck this year in the run in! So still a few twists and turns to come.

I've said it since last December, only mis-management on an unprecedented scale will see Stoke relegated.

Win for Villa, my MD is a Sunderland fan, so I would love them to go down. Having said that, I would quite like the Geordies to go as well. Can we not have a special 4 for 3 this season if they end up in the bottom 4?

With out doubt a villa loss simply because they do have some good players we could pinch if they go down and they are allready based not to far away.

Sunderland win without a doubt. This would leave Villa with 3 games left( Away to Norwich, home to Chelsea, home to Wigan). Their goal difference is -27, points 34, a loss would increase goal difference. We are on -10 so even if Villa win 2 of the remaining three we are above them. Wigan have to play Arsenal away so the last match could decide who goes down between them. Wigan need 7 points to go above us, so a final day draw would still send Villa down. Obviously I am assuming Arsenal and Chelsea win the games and we get no more points. I think I am right but do check.
checked against bbc predictor and I am right.

A Villa win.
Because: 1) Sunderland wouldn't go above us tonight. 2) It would pull up the safety ladder from Wigan a bit more. 3) It would burst the won-two-on-the-bounce Di Canio bubble just before we play them. 4) It wouldn't change the league standings. 5) Villa are a great Midlands club. 6) Wigan have to play 4 games (3 away) in 10 days including Citeh at Wembley and Arse away..... see ya....
And a draw is boring
