Looks like the sale is on, straight cash, no swap TRANSFER LATEST From BBC Sport's Ben Smith: "QPR will hold further talks with Stoke today as manager Harry Redknapp pushes ahead with plans to sign striker Peter Crouch. "Stoke are willing to sell Crouch but have rejected a player plus cash offer that would have seen Jamie Mackie move to the Britannia Stadium. "QPR are now preparing to return with a straight cash offer for Crouch with Stoke attempting to recoup close to the £10m they paid for him in August 2011." www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/21256816

As you say, though, being able to take the £6m would be the saving grace of the Elmander loan.

6m would be a good deal IMO.
Opens the door for a late push for Bent / Odemwingie / Benteke - with Elmander backup if we fail.
No chance with Benteke but it would be nice.

Actually calmly thinking about, it, I'd take the £6m and keep it tight until the summer unless we dropped on a great option.
Loaning Elmander 'til the summer would be just about okay, as long as Kenwyne stayed.
We certainly don't need to rush into any barmpot moves for the likes of Darren sodding Bent.

Am i the only one who thinks a loan for Elmander is actually quite reasonable? Nothing to lose and all that....

Crouch has played for 8 different clubs in his career, so maybe we should not be surprised that he will consider another move.
The link with Harry is obviously a major factor but is he prepared to take the risk, that despite the massive spending in this window, QPR may not stay up????

Ask yourself this how old he is, look at his current dip in form, then the re-sale value of keeping him to selling him now.. Pro's out weigh the con's for me. Selling would be the most sensible thing.

I like Walters but when he plays out wide that takes away another option front.

You probably wouldn't have to be a mind reader to see the prospect as being attractive to him, though?
It'd probably be a major surprise if he wasn't very keen
Sounds like it's just down to us to find a big lump to replace him, even if it's Elmander as a sticking plaster

Mackie element of deal back on?
I'd prefer straight cash..
Rob Dorsett @dorselator
I understand #stokecity are considering taking Jamie Mackie with cash (unknown amount) in exchange with #qpr for Crouch.

At least Mackie suits the way we play.

No - but there are a lot belligerent thick fuckers on here who still believe that one of the most inconsistent players to pull on a stoke shirt is the saviour of our club and our current lack of form is all Crouch's fault.

On paper Mackie sounds like a cloned Jonathan Walters
Having played in lower divisions most of his career, 2 goals in 18 appearances, runs around alot.

Apart from being 2-3 inches shorter (which surprised me), he seems a Walters clone on grass too! The prospect of two Walters in the XI is pretty scary.
