Dunno, Bayern. I think Mackie plus £4m would see us come out easily on the right side of the deal. But Redknapp normally knows what he's doing, so maybe we're (or at least I'm!) missing something! I wouldn't pay more than 500k for Mackie but he's got Premier League experience, scored some goals etc so has got to be worth a million or two. That is a decent deal, I just don't want another hard worker devoid of skill in the attacking third. I'm sick to the back teeth of them. He's massively underrated is Mackie, i'd snap QPR's hand off for that deal if what is to be read in the article FullerMagic posted is true!

If he's seeing Mackie as a right-mid candidate and it meant SJW back in the right place, this has all the hallmarks of a cracking idea! Yeah 2 out of the 4 attacking positions filled with 'ard working plodders. Amazing.

Another nail in Pulis' coffin if this shit is true. Another championship plodder to go with all the others we have in our ranks. The thought of seeing Mackie running round Walters style in a Stoke shirt makes me want to kill myself. Swapping Crouch for Mackie would be one of Pulis' worst piss takes out of em all and would only weaken our squad even further. Why the fuck can't we look around Europe and pick up some premier league standard players like others seem to do? Oh I remember,it's because we have a dinosaur in charge doing his yearly impression of the thickest T-Rex that ever roamed the earth.

(of course I accept that what would actually happen is Adam and Mackie up front, and Walters on the right. )

How many years was the Crouch contract? 3 or 4?
Let's say 3 for arguments sake... and that after these years he'd retire - so no resale value. Let's also consider wages irrelevant. In fact, any flaws you can find with the below logic can be deemed irrelevant for my example.
If you consider the 10m transfer fee for Crouch spread over 3 years = 3.33m per year. As we've used 1.5yrs up that makes 5m, so half the transfer fee. So his remaining cost to the club would be 5m (plus wages) over the next 18 months.
If we can now sell him for 4m and get Mackie then we would (in some twisted and flawed logic) only be paying 1m for Mackie.
I reckon Harry will be thinking along the same lines and as a result we'll probably get Mackie plus 1 or 2 million.

I would only like one of Mackie and Walters on the pitch at the same time. You can have too much of a good thing But on the specifics of the deal, I think it's a potentially really good one for us.

I can accept one attacking position being used for nullifying but two does my head in. I guess he's better than Shotton on the right. The aspiration we are showing. ;D

He's not going to do a 180 degree turn and suddenly decide there's no need for Walters-types, though, is he?
And at their best, they can contribute in the squad.
Bringing in another Walters, shipping out a striker who doesn't fit, and ensuring Kenwyne stays all at the same time - and bringing in £4m in the bargain seems a no-brainer.
But if it did mean that 2/4 of the front 4 were Mackie and Walters every week, it would be a retrograde step. But I think a Pulis squad could accommodate both Walters and Mackie.

It'd be Mackie on the right. Ethers/Shea on the left. Walters in the hole. KJ up top. It'd probably work too but it's attrition at it's finest.

Plus if it mean's Walters back to his original position what is there to worry about?

Sort of like a dog chasing a bone with a sparkly collar or something. And I wonder if the cumulative effect of two of those at once might be enough to panic defences a bit. But yes, would swap any of crown jewels to avoid Shotton on the right. Mind you, I'm still convinced Owen will come good, so i should probably just crawl back under my rock.

I'm sick to death of Walters it has to be said, so another one in the team for me is a nightmare. As I've said it will probably work but it will generally be horrible.

I think if we could get Mackie & £4mil for Crouch it would be a top deal, Mackie isn't the greatest but he suits us & i think he has a bit more about him than people give him credit for!
