The greatest drummer of all time? Goosebumps on goosebumps ... This guy wasn't too had..... Absolutely! Two incredible drummers on the planet at exactly the same time, although Rich was a technical genius, Krupa for me, just had that incredible swing ...

Another drummer as reliable as GMT: Blimey, the amount of times I said "Fuckin' Hell!" in 9 minutes just watching that! Four absolute geniuses, making something that is extremely hard to do, look totally effortless ... an utter joy to watch. I think I'll put it on again.

I was a fan of jazz/funk late 70's early 80's.... Some you could dance to, some very trance-like and ambient, what you'd actually listen to. Recommendations: The Crusaders, Joe Sample, Grover Washington junior, Wilton Felder, Dave Grusin, Bob James, Lee Ritenour, Herbie Hancock, Lonnie Liston-Smith, very little of the jazz I like has vocals although I think Sade and her band were pretty decent.

A mate of mine does a two-hour live vinyl jazz set every Sunday at 9pm (will be 8pm when the clocks change) on twitch for anyone interested. He's jackfraccion on twitch.tv (can't seem to do the direct link because it tries to embed it)
He uploads them to youtube as well, there are 12 mixes up so far, plenty to go at for anyone working from home...

Obviously nowhere near as competent a vocalist as Nat but this is my favourite version of Orange Coloured Sky. If your foot doesn't tap listening to this, then you must have concrete running in your veins! 😁

This isn't jazz but as Al Di Meola produced Stanley Jordan's early stuff, I hope you can forgive me for giving it a home here.
In my humble opinion, it's one of the greatest jams ever recorded ...

Have you been to Ronnie Scott's ( ( London ) Paul? Not for the best part of 30 years John. It's one of my ambitions to go there.....Ive decided......I'm going next year. I'd like to hear a good ( blues) saxophonist, my favourite instrument.....I've no idea who is regarded as the best at the moment....do you know?

I can't help you on that one I'm afraid John but I'm sure you'll have a top night regardless. I know that there was a movie due to be released about Ronnie Scotts earlier in the year but it's release got delayed because of Covid, it might be worth keeping an eye out for it.

Listened to this after you posted it on another thread a while back,'Fantasia Suite..' is also mind blowingly good. JM is a guitarist whose technique I've always respected but disliked his sound/tone,but this recording is one of those rare moments when the planets truly align.A fact the trio acknowledge in the sleeve notes to the album?

Wow, you've got a better memory than me ... I didn't even realise that I'd posted it before! I remember to this day, the first time that I heard it ... I was in a hotel room full of strangers at a Hi-Fi show in Heathrow in the late eighties. I wandered into the room just as it began playing, sat down on the front row and within minutes I was totally lost in this sound emanating from the speakers, to the point that I completely forgot where I was and when it ended, I spontaneously stood up and started applauding, before realising that all these strangers around me, were staring at me, wondering what the fook I was doing (as of course was also I!) and then they too (all smiling), started applauding too ... I guess you kinda had to have been there in the moment!
