Beautifully written Joe.
My first game was 74 too, but I was lucky enough for it to be the heroic 3-2 fight back against the then 23 game unbeaten Leeds, who went on to win the League.
Pejic, Hudson and Smith scored that day, but like so many kids of that era, Jimmy was my hero.
I can picture him now after scoring, both arms straight up in the air. Hazy memories, and you don't realise how lucky you are to see those players. It just seemed normal then.
I must admit that Ricardo has me jumping around like a kid again though...

As we have grown up, I look back fondly, of the legends of the 70's.
But when I was playin footy in playground in juniors there was only man I wanted to be, probably the best volleyer of the ball I have ever seen.
Mr. Greenhoff

I can't believe that March and Waiting F Waddo agree on something. Don Ratcliffe!? We used to call 'open the gates' when Don got the ball 'cos he just ran aimlessly to the byeline then forgot to cross it. When my dad went to buy our first season ticket we had the choice of being close to the right winger and left back (Stan and Tony Allen) or the left winger and right back (Don and Bill Asprey) Not a hard one! My first hero was Denis Viollet. So intelligent and a terrific penalty taker.

Marchy, help me out here! Who IS this geezer?! Ratter was BRILLIANT. Sure, Stan was a talisman when he came back but Ratter had the cutting edge. Great player! Him and Clampy! PS DV was good too though. ;D

This is a Fookin Confession!! My Mum took me to the Vic in 1969 to watch Stoke play Manure. My Mum was a huge Manure Fan, and me being 8 years old, and influenced by me mum, so was I!!
Anyway, I watched the Game, and couldn't take my eyes off Banksy, I always wanted to be a keeper then, so it was Fook off Best Law & Charlton, and hello to Banksy, Harry Burrows, Peter Dobing etc etc!
A close escape form the Darkside!

i`d have to say biggins, at the time i started watching stoke bertie was banging goals in while steino was still on loan to us and had`nt got his `magic boots` on at that time. needless to say, once steino started scoring ang single handedly beating teams he was my idol!!!

Garth Crooks, which is a bit ironic since he appears to have no time for us these days and much prefers Spurs.
Remember being very annoyed when we sold him to SPurs.
