Ask yourself this. If someone came along and offered a fee we considered lower than our valuation for Ricardo Fuller, plus an overweight, unfit, cast-off striker with a bad attitude that we'd have to pay the best part of thirty grand a week as part of the deal, what would you expect Stoke's answer to be? You're right there Dave, I don't think Stoke can expect the bid to be accepted surely, maybe its just an opening offer to see what Wigan actually want for Rodallega.

It wouldn't be the first time if we said yes though would it Dave? In Moxeys day the first response to any bid was "yes please". ;D

Yes, but this is the new improved, established Premier League SCFC with added Mamma we're talking about now.

But Fuller's a lot better than Rodallega.
Surely that's the point?
What has Rodallega actually done?
13 in 47 starts - including 3 league goals in 2010.
And I'd wager he doesn't contribute half of what Fuller does, goals aside.
He's been hyped up beyond belief on the back of that volley at Villa on the opening day of last season.
Even the Wigan fans don't view him the same way they viewed N'Zogbia, Valencia, Palacios etc. There were howls of derision at their end when he was linked to Arsenal in the tabloids
I think we've lost track of the value of money in the world market if we think an offer of around £8m for Rodallega is in some way insulting.

The problem as I see it is that, whilst we can afford to buy players like Rodallega we can't afford to add him to the wage bill until players like Kitson and/or Beattie are off it. So, from our point of view, a swap deal makes sense. If we can't do a swap deal then we'd have to look at offloading them at an even bigger loss than we might do in a swap deal and of course, however we get them out of the club, we may end up subsidising their wages after their move. We are in a tricky situation brought about in part by longer contracts than we perhaps should have offered them. Long contracts are fine for younger players who are still improving and who you can, if needs be, sell to the highest of several keen bidders. For players around or above 30 they are risky. This. And I do think that the situation here is different than the money + player deal we were offering Cardiff for Ledley. Bardiff are flat broke and wanted straight cash together with one of their highest wage earners of the wage bill. We on the other hand only wanted Ledley if it meant moving along another. I think under normal circumstances £2m + Tonge for Ledley (or whatever the deal was) would be a perfectly reasonable deal but the problem seems to have been that Cardiff just weren't in a position to do anything but take hard cash. In principle we're right to be trying these kind of part-exchange deals. If we're dealing with a Champ club it makes sense to offer them a Kitson or a Tonge, or if we're dealing with a lower-end Prem club the same applies with Beattie. Although things didn't work out with these players at Stoke, that doesn't mean that they're automatically useless.* If we want the club to be sustainable in the long-term we have to keep the squad and the wages trimmed, not 'do a Hull' and piss our cash up the wall. *It does seem we're struggling to shift the three I've mentioned here though. The is probably for the reasons Fornside has listed above: too big and too long a contract. Hopefully TP and PC have learned their lessons.

I reckon Beattie will be off to Blackburn - Sam is being aloof about it all but they were spanked 3-0 in a friendly the other night and he said he was desperate for a striker
"It is not a striker we are looking for to make the numbers up, it is a striker we are looking for to make an impact by challenging Jason Roberts and Niko Kalinic. That is extremely difficult for us at the moment."

This offer is moost probably made up rubbiish by the red top and then copied 1 hour later by another red top. There is even a member registered over a year ago as the DailyMirror and then they probably worked out they could view without signing on.
While we are on the subject - dont you find it strange that the usual vocal Chuckle bros have NEVER mentioned Cole bids re SCFC.
Given Coates's statement today, one has to doubt how many real bids we have put in
The only total rebuff appears to be that Welsh chappie

Sounds like Roberts is free to leave them too (despite that quote).

would you swap Roberts for Beattie?
from what I can make out Roberts attitude is excellent
short term deal & Beattie off the books,it'd be worth it as long as we got a top line forward as well
