What's all this with 'English', BHP? Don't rate either midfielder. Workhorses. Little better than what we have. And Coker is a real headless chicken. Would you rather 'British'?.. It's pretty much in reference to the fact that they would be classed as 'Home grown' when the new FA squad rules come in. Also, although I'm not discouraging the addition of foreign players, I do like the thought of a predominantly 'English' team, you know, being an English club. And I'm not sure just who you think we could get in terms of Footballing midfielders if you think that Noble & Sidwell are nothing more than 'workhorses'.

stokemark,
I think you have Villa and Wet Spam confused. There is not a chance that Sidwell, even after his Chelski venture, will be on 70k plus. I'd like to think that we'd be looking more towards 40k, but I suppose you never know now.

Whitehead isn't worth £5m though. i think he is, it would cost more than 5m to get a household name replacement

I'd like Stoke to sign both Sidwell and Luke Young, both would improve us considerably! I think Reo-Coker would be a good squad player but I can't see him pulling up any trees for us, I would only play him as a defensive midfielder and I actually rate Whitehead a lot in that role.
Sidwell would be great as a more playmaker type CM.
Not sure about Beye though, he was already 31 when we tried to sign him last summer, so at 32 years old I really don't think he's represent a step forward for stoke, it would only be a short term fix at best.

O'Hara. With Keane up top with Fuller. Sorted. You think that O'Hara is a better ball player than Steve Sidwell? I suggest that you look past the lads wicked left foot, because although he IS an improvement on what we have, he is certainly not as creative as some seem to think. I think that Noble and Sidwell would for about as perfect a Midfield pairing as Stoke could hope for in terms of realistic deals, and tactics. Both players run all day long, stick their heads in where it hurts and hole their positions well. Pulis is never going to play an 'attacking' Midfielder, so I think the best we can hope for a Box-to-box midfielder next to a holding player that is comfortable on the ball. Noble ticks the 'holding' box just as well as Scott Parker from what I hear, and while Sidwell is by no means the new Patrick Vieira, he is certainly that type of player... A fit John Eustace if you will. The pair of them with Etherington and a real winger on the right and we're in business. Also, as gifted as Robbie Keane is, I just can't see him playing for Stoke. It just wouldn't work.
