Correct Rob. Shorey is better than what we have as well. Shorey's Championship standard imo. How he played for England I'll never know. If Deano's worth £5m I think we can safely say Sidwell is. We paid £5m for Deano, that doesn't necessarily mean he was worth it ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/3zptH1h3SvRnVmRGLyMP.gif) EDIT: Bayern beat me to it!

Whitehead isn't worth £5m though. Which was rather my point. If we were prepared to pay that for him then I don't think we can turn our nose up at the same price for a Sidwell. I think we can seeing as the rumoured price for his is around £3m. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/0m0lbCuTEBzaRn6f8QaM.gif)

Not sure, if he played regular I think he would do a decent job. It's all about opinions - the only one that matters is the managers. Expect 4 new centre halfs then.

IMO the price for Sidwell will be well over £3 Million as we'll have plenty of competition for his signature.

West Ham it is then!
OR Fulham.
Probably true bayern (about London) but maybe Ian Dowie is giving him directions so there's hope for us yet.

Talking of Fulham ref Sidwell, anyone else feel (as I do ) that Danny Murphy has looked very slow, heavy legged and 'out of sorts' these past few games? I think he's a cracking player and I'd love someone of his quality at Stoke and it could just be that Fulham's very long season has worn him down. I don't want to do the fella a dis-service because he's quality IMO and, if they are possibly thinking of putting younger legs in the centre of their midfield, I'd like to think we'd be one of those trying to sign him.

I think one of the right-backs and one of the centre midfielders should be on our radar. If the reports are true about Sidwell heading south then it'd leave Reo-Coker and one of Beye or Young. I'm unsure if there's a massive difference between the pair of them. Which one's tallest? That would probabley decide which one we're after. ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/800541/images/0m0lbCuTEBzaRn6f8QaM.gif)

Id take all of them, problem is probably none of them will want a move to "unfashionable bullies" Stoke City FC.

Bloody Fulham.
One decent Euro cup run and automatically any player thats available or mentioned in the same breath as Stoke and they wanna buy buy buy.
Are they going to be our summer pain in the arse club as I thought it would be Birmingham or West Ham.

Reading the London Metro paper on the train this morning, there was a bit in the transfer talk saying that West Ham are eyeing up Sidwell as a replacement for Noble if he signs for Stoke!

Sidwell looks to be going to Fulham, as does Davies (who isn't better than what we've got already). Beye is getting on a bit now, can't see the sense in signing him for any sort of money just so he can sit on the bench. Young- he's 30 now, can't see the point in signing him (as with Beye) when we have younger players who can do a job there, when he'd want to be first choice. Shorey- Shorey is shit. Anyone remember Peter Hoekstra absolutely murdering him down the wings whe he scored his hattrick against Reading? www.youtube.com/user/1985iF1#p/a/u/0/wdYXwr5MWtY

I'd go all out for Steve Sidwell.
Give them £10mill for him and tell them to chuck in Curtis Davies and Luke Young too. Winner. Two experienced, if not world beating, English Defenders that WOULD improve our immediate playing squad.
Then go fetch Noble to partner Sidwell and you have yourselves a fantastic young English pairing in the middle that can put a shift in, attack and defend. Quite an engine the pair of them have aswell. Deano, Whelan & Rory to come in and fill gaps for suspension, form or fitness drops.

Sidwell would be a quality addition, and TP often gets his man. I remember him scoring from about 40 yards at Griffin Park against us in our promotion season (admittedly the goal was open!).
Wouldn't want Davies to be honest. Injury prone, and over rated in my opinion. His 'defending' at the Brit in 2008 was dreadful to say the least.

Not being Wilko's biggest fan Luke Young would be a great addition. He's got a couple of seasons in those legs. Can defend and attack in equal measure. Sidwell hasn't played enough football in recent years and I think he's lost his mojo as far as the game is concerned.

Yeah, forgot to mention Luke Young. He would be add some good stability and experience to the full back berth.

What's all this with 'English', BHP?
Don't rate either midfielder. Workhorses. Little better than what we have. And Coker is a real headless chicken.

Midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker has told Aston Villa that he is prepared to sit out the remaining year on his contract and leave for free next summer rather than sign agreements with Blackburn or Stoke. Full story: Daily Mirror

Whilst they all seem potential 'prospects' for Stoke its no use just banging on about how much their transfer fees would be !!
Its their salaries that would be the sticking point. They are porbably all on more than any current Stoke player (my guess is that as a minimum each is earning £50K per week) and probably a couple (Sidwell, Reo-Coker) are currenly on £70K a week plus.
THAT remains the problem for us as a football club to be able to 'push on'
