Latest news from the official Newcastle site: -
Alan Smith is confident that he'll be OK to return having missed the midweek defeat against Man City because of severe concussion.
The 27-year-old was knocked unconscious at Stamford Bridge last weekend after a sickening clash of heads with team-mate Abdoulaye Faye.
But the stand-in skipper told nufc.co.uk that he should be fine for the Third Round clash at the Britannia Stadium.
African trio Abdoulaye Faye, Geremi and Habib Beye will be available for the last time before heading off on Cup of Nations duty.
However, Oba Martins will not link-up with the Nigerian squad until after next weekend's game at Man Utd although it is unclear if he will figure at Stoke.
Michael Owen could make his FA Cup debut for United having been injured during the previous two campaigns.
Potters top scorer Ricardo Fuller is a doubtful having flown home to Jamaica to attend the funeral of his grandmother.

We made it to the prince of wales. After parking on the "Away fans car Park" (as the sign said) and rudely being told we weren't getting in the big pub on the corner (by some proper big bruiser) the police directed us for what seemed like an eternity down a very steep bank and we came to the prince on the left hand side. Its a good job the people off the coaches did not all file down there as it has to be one of the smallest pubs i have ever been in. It was no where near the ground. Even the police, who earlier told us they were taking us to the ground at 2.15pm, just told us to follow the person in front because they couldn't be arsed to walk up that massive hill!!
