My GP asked me last week if I was having any problems with drinking during the pandemic. No I answered, it goes down quite easily. On your skimmer wages Lawrie? 😉😆

Being used on a current advert. Manfred Mann between his original band and the Earth Band. Mike Hugg, MM’s drummer on electric piano, also wrote and sung ‘Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads’ theme tune.

I remember the winning goal goal against Preston in the 92-93 run in. Stein was played in by a defensive error, Preston goalie Farnworth quickly and smartly narrowed the angle as steino shot. There was a collective groan as we thought he was going to miss, however the ball nestled just inside the net by the far post. I reckon he had a split second to aim his shot in a ball width gap between Farnworth and the far post, great and crucial finish under pressure.

I don't think it's so much the oil as the gas Same difference. All fossil fuels are in decline meaning supply will increasingly (and significantly) exceed demand. This is a big problem for Russia over the next 30+ years. When I worked in the Middle East, countries like Bahrain are working towards a post hydrocarbon economy if not already there. To sell an independent Scotland with this as a major component for wealth generation is folly.

I love my walking, camping, cycling and the outdoors life in general. I had to cancel an attempt this summer at the Hadrians Wall way sadly, and I’m looking for ideas for similar challenges. Has anybody done some interesting long distances trails on foot or bike or Kayaked down a river for example? I’m looking for inspiration from my fellow Ostcakers 😁

The Who, just before Pete Townsend left to join Spandau Ballet When you see a roadie walking towards Roger Daltrey with a Telecaster for Eminence Front live, it’s the cue for thousands of Who fans to go for a piss or get a Hotdog 😆

This classic track will never die... The rare case when the video is as iconic as the song itself. It is a good video but the track is a rip off, (which also should rule out most of Oasis's output). Oasis were successfully sued by Neil Innes due to ‘Whatever’ ripping off ‘Free to be an idiot’.

Always Mrs Peel to me in the Avengers, a wonderfully created and unique character that is of the 60s and transcended that era also. In my opinion the best James Bond lead female ever by a mile.😢 RIP

I think we may be in a scenario, where fans have been away this long and have discovered other things to do with their money. Some now may not want to return, and remain on the golf course or whatever else they’re doing.

300 people at the last march in London is proof this movement is quickly fading. Again! BLM is getting boring for the participants now. They’ll probably move over to extinction rebellion.

^^^^ Your memory is very correct^^^^ 23rd Feb 1988 we beat them 2-1 in fromt of 10,129 home crowd with Phil Heath and Judder scoring. Judders goal being the latest I’d even seen. Leeds kicked off and the ref blew for full time. The Leeds support then took out their frustration on the Butler Street seats.

I remember seeing this about Gene Vincent on BBC2 In the early 90s. It follows him on his 1969 UK tour and is an interesting watch. From the days when documentaries had no narration and the film itself told the story.

The 6-2 game was Alan Hudson’s last decent game for Stoke. He retired shortly after. John Devine came in as a replacement and was great, and Chris Maskery Was growing in stature every game. A crying shame that they both were effectively finished after that season.

With reference to the Hollywood Lane spoil heap, I believe it is now having houses built on it! I used to take my mountain bike past there, and the spoil would crackle and pop (just like cereal), and occasionally send up thin plumes of smoke. From a distance the dead trees resembled a WW1 battlefield and there would be a visible heat haze, even in winter. Silverdale currently has a bit of a odour problem known as the ‘Silverdale Pong’ (unsurprising), it becomes very apparent as you approach the cemetery Road traffic light. I think this is to do with the coal field, as its odour reminds me of coal, or a vehicle burning too much oil.

Thanks for all this guys. I'll plug an itinerary together. Probably alot of walking - either coast path or inland I think, because many NT / private attractions are shut or have to be booked. (Stonehenge is booking only). The Coleridge Cottage is one of those that's shut unfortunately, although there's a village that way with a staute of the Ancient Mariner. My kids are are 19 and 15 (nearly 16) - old enough to appreciate that holidays are a bit different at the minute and don't mind not going to cities or busy areas. Bath and Wells might also be possibles too - never been to either and heard good things. Which is a better place to visit - Bath Abbey or Wells Catherdal? Wells cathedral is worth visiting to see it’s clock alone. It’s the oldest (second oldest in Europe?), has a 24 hour dial face with lunar movements on it etc, an unbelievable piece of engineering for the 14th century. If you go to Wells, go on a market day as it adds to the atmosphere and charm of the older part of the town. Lots to see in Wells in short walking distances.

I had two spells at RNAS Yeovilton and I loved being in Somerset. Just to add to the other wonderful suggestions, the drive over the causeway to the isle of Avalon and then walk up to Glastonbury tor is something else. Cerne Abbas is just over the border in Dorset and is home to the ‘Giant’ ie that chalk carving with the erect penis 😁 Somerset just has a magical atmosphere and I hope to get back down to visit some King Alfred sites of interest.

Ray Wallace and Graham Potter were both excellent in the Macari play off season. Potter got a move to the Premier League Wallace, along with Pickering, went from useful Championship standard players to complete no marks. If I recall correctly there was a clampdown on foul play by referees the season after. This effectively clipped Ray’s wings, and he was never the same again for us.

I’m reading three at the moment. ‘Eddie Mac, Eddie Mac‘ about Eddie McCreadie’s two year tenure as Chelsea manager 1975-77. Not brilliant, but interesting. Eddie claims to have invented the Diamond formation. Thanks Eddie 😁 Second book is ‘Memoirs of an old yard dog’ is a Bradford Park Avenue fan reminisce 1960-74. Good read, I love footie books about the 60s and 70s. Last Book is ‘Run Silent, Run Deep’ a fictional account of an American WW2 submarine and it’s crew. I loved the film and the book is even better. As an ex submariner it comes across as totally convincing, not surprising as author Edward L. Beach was a former submarine captain.

One place I remember is the Steam Plough on the corner of Victoria Street and Freehold Street in Newcastle. It was basically just the downstairs of a normal terraced house, and the smallest pub I ever saw (from the outside).
