Should make selling him easier. He is more of a footballer than an athlete and you can see the managers preference. Nonsense - he's just signed a footballer in Pearson. The manager likes both He does like it when a player can do both, but this priority will be athleticism / aggression over technique and skill. It's why Laurent, Smallbone and Thompson have been selected ahead of Baker. So far Pearson hasn't demonstrated the footballer in him with us, despite being someone who can do both. If he returns to his previous form he is one of the best midfielders in the league and someone I'd hoped we would sign when we got relegated.

Lewis Baker now on 7 Goals and 5 Assists for the season, considering his dip in form, thats still pretty impressive from midfield at this point in the season Should make selling him easier. He is more of a footballer than an athlete and you can see the managers preference.

He's so powerful.
Its great to see him fired up, when he's like this, he can dominate opposition players.

This could end 5 -5 because neither team look like they can defend. I even fancy Gayle to score tonight! Gayle to score? 😂 Steady on now

We have been limited as to the type of free transfer we could go for due to FFP and unfortunately Gayle hasn't produced under AN. The football was for sure a possession based game, it could have been more attacking, but it's still been the most controlled attacking team we've had since Hughes. MON got Tymon to become a footballer again, that was no easy feat! He also got Tyrese Campbell to stay, got him playing really well too, prior to the injury anyway. Made Baker a monster at this level, now he looks a ghost. Which players play better for AN than MON? We beat numerous other clubs to Gayle’s signature and are reportedly paying him 20k a week. His signing isn’t a ‘this is the best we could get in the circumstances’ deal, it’s an outlay we could’ve used on players who fit the system. It could have been spent better; it was an expensive free in hindsight. 2 years for a player at the end of their career though, shows it was a sticky plaster to get us through this season.

There were 30 crosses in for the strikers yesterday, Gayle played centrally so he was part of the problem The way I see it is that he no longer makes the near post runs he did for Palace, West Brom and Newcastle. When we played West Brom and he scored a few years back he looked sharp, he looks anything but now It worries me when I hear people say he's had to adapt his game as he's got older, in lehmann terms this means his pace and sharpness has gone, and as that was what Gayle was all about the end result is 1 (fortunate) goal in 25 appearances. Sorry but he's not good enough, carry on with him and there's one place we are going I don’t know if there were 30 crosses or not yesterday. It’s not the number of, it’s the quality of the crosses that is important. Did they create opportunities for players to capitalise on? In the context of Gayle what type cross would he have an opportunity to thrive upon, and what % of the crosses provided provided that opportunity. How many other players didn’t take advantage of the 30 crosses, and why not? Its been a general problem all season (with the odd exception) that quality “crosses” have been at a premium. The chances of scoring from crosses looks low for any team and you have to wonder if there is any point in it. It's probably better to dribble into the box or to shoot.

MON was biding his time for this summer window, it would have been the first time we could have judged how well he spent money, or could compete on be a fair platform. He's a better manager than AN in lots of ways; man management, tactically, bringing through and developing youth, developing more attacking football and financial management. It's gutting, we were one season away. AN is going to get us playing defensive, low block, physical football. This is okay, as long as his successor will play similar football and we are ready for even fewer talented footballers. Don’t buy that at all. We’ve seen several teams at this level produce play-off capable sides cobbled together with free transfers. MON’s player recruitment has been woeful and letting him have this summer coming up would have been monumentally stupid. On top of that the notion that MON played attacking football, successfully, is rewriting history. We played a possession based style where we saw lots of the ball and did pretty much fuck all with it. Other than his initial season his ‘tactics’ were rubbish and we were going backwards. Also, what are you basing your belief that he’s better at man management on? I haven’t seen anything to justify this claim. We have been limited as to the type of free transfer we could go for due to FFP and unfortunately Gayle hasn't produced under AN. The football was for sure a possession based game, it could have been more attacking, but it's still been the most controlled attacking team we've had since Hughes. Now he's lost his pace, he now feels more like a second striker than a poacher. His touch and understanding of the game is there, he's also prepared to put the yards in, but he just isn't as dynamic as he once was.
Good player for the youngsters to learn from and would be good in a CAM of a diamond formation.

I thought we were underperforming when MON was sacked not shit? It’s pretty clear that it wasn’t underperformance. We’re not in a false position, we’re exactly where we deserve to be. MON also clearly demonstrated he couldn’t put a coherent squad together despite several transfer windows to shape the squad in his own image. We haven’t had a decent transfer window since the Hughes era, Rowett, Jones and MON loading us with bang average players with the ones that really stand out like Souttar and Powell not playing due to fitness issues. Throw in the fact that we have been constantly getting waltzed through because of MON’s very misguided notion that you don’t need a proper defensive midfielder at this level then it’s understandable that we’ve been such a mess. I’m ambivalent on Neil at the moment, based on what we’re witnessing even the likes of Steve Cooper, Wilder, Carrick etc would struggle to get a decent tune out of these wasters. I’ll judge Neil properly next season when thankfully most of these clowns are out contract. MON was biding his time for this summer window, it would have been the first time we could have judged how well he spent money, or could compete on be a fair platform. We probably do have those first two goals, the club doesn't lack ambition.
Its the actions required to reach those goals where we will be lacking, the nous!

Hes definitely a poorer manager than MON. We dont look like scoring, play very negative football and he doesnt deserve the chance to spend the Souttar money. He sees out the season for me, but then should be sacked. A big part of the issue is his football just doesn't suit this squad, or the squad he inherited. That's on the owners. We should have had a manager in the mould of MON, who wanted to build through the pitch and would play youngsters. A natural progression if you like. Not some roll of the dice Coates family special that lumbers us with god knows what time after time.
The time to bring in Alex Neil was at the end of the COVID season, when we were about to embark on a limited rebuild, where he could have brought players in that he wanted and fit his style. Even last summer would have been touch and go given how thinly we had to spread the budget (even allowing for Gayle etc). The January window was an absolute abomination. Quite the feat given what we've witnessed over the years. That one is on both the owners and manager - owners for a lack of plan and process and the manager and his mate for leaving us so short pretty much all over the pitch thanks to going back on a promise of not paying players to sit in the stands. The question we all need to ask is, if we can get through to the end of the season unscathed, is he really the man to spend the money we're supposedly allowed to spend going forwards given the absolute mess he's left us with? At this stage i'll be brutally honest. As soon as we are mathematically safe i'd show him the door.
This soo much. Thing is, even with this not being his squad and not playing his typical style he should have had a response or made it so some of the players played better. Cant think of one player who has played better for AN than they did for MON. As things stand, he should be sacked at the end of the season.

Standing by this. He’s an awful, clueless, liar of a manager. Now I didn't watch the game, but looking at the match stats we had 70% possession, over 500 passes, 25 shots on goal, and we're blaming the manager? We had lots of low quality shots, crossed from deep or looped up so their back line wasn't under pressure. We had alot of players on the pitch who played tidy, but weren't ruthless. Lowe showed with his 6 seconds on the pitch he should have been brought on about 65 minutes. He completely bottled it.

This result is on AN.
A positive early sub or two and we could have had 3 points.

How is Fox on the pitch and Sterling has been taken off? Will we see another sub before 85 minutes? who exactly would you like him to bring on? We had an opportunity to make the team more attacking, we actually made it more defensive with thr substitutions made The only way we get a point or more is by scoring at least one goal.

What stops Neil from bringing on the best long range shooter in the league? He should be on for his goal threat alone....... We need to be prepared to concede another and get more attacking players on. Pretty much pointless crossing right now too.

Fox is possibly the poorest crosser of the ball I've ever seen.
Would be tempted to bring him off, move Thompson to LB and have Baker on asap.

Didn't realise that, although I had seen his wife is already working within a financial advisory firm.
It would be good if he focused on providing financial advice to footballers, where he could make an absolute killing, but also make it so they don't fritter away their wealth.

He looked very rusty. Several misplaced passes, some a long way off too.
He did however look to want to control the tempo and to be positive. Also had his moments of tactical fouls which is good to see because we don't see it often enough.
Fingers crossed he demonstrates he's still as good as he was a couple of years ago and if so we should look to sign him.

Prior to his injury he was more balanced and able to shift direction easier, so playing right didn't phase him.
Now when he plays right you can see him not want to put much pressure when cutting across to his left, like he doesn't have enough push off power. Until that changes, we can still make the most of his straight line pace and how cleanly he can strike a ball by playing left.
