Blimey Pearo, what did you put in that egg nog? 30 hours later and ive just come round in Basingstoke bus station. How the hell did I get here? And why am I wearing a purple fright wig and the rear half of a pantomime horse costume? Oooh, my head's going like a robber's dog .... never again. Sal + Murph were seen with smirks on their faces. And old Gertie the bus driver was grinning from ear to ear when she was sat on Pearo's lap. What I want to know is a) who was driving the bus, b) are they responsible for my Basingstoke predicament and c) how the hell do I get home? The pantomime horse costume has no pockets so I've no cash on me You'll never get the deposite back on that costume, unless you find the head 🐴 It isn't the head JD needs to find, Bathy, it's the receipt from the Cozzy Hire place....... wonder who's got THAT? (Ooooh! L O O K !)

I'm a doubter I'm afraid. Bath makes a great point earlier about the proliferation of mobile phones. You'd think there'd be some decent proof footage/sound by now.Dr. Stephen Greer is widely acknowledged to be a false flagger. I do get the idea we're being drip fed UFO stuff as a softening process. …………………….but you must have heard countless reports of 'I tried to film the craft but my camera suddenly wouldn't work' etc. And we'll have to agree to disagree about Steven Greer - I've only attended two of his lectures, but he is a highly intelligent and quite amazing person and I will always remain a devotee.

The stats and that have been fully digested, as has the last of the banana bread. Cheeese straws next. A few controversial changes: Murphs on the left wing, HarryB's scoring prowess utilised as the big man up top. Cheees Northy Quietman Deeside Chuffed Felonious RogerJ {c} Pearo Murphs HarryB Mermaidsal
Bench: Bath, Assassin, Samba, Maryland, DutchP, BojanM DLC will meet at 8pm, got a visit from a Mod mate, closest I could get to a Brighton fan tonight. UIMS Well, what a lip-licker of a teamsheet! The gaffer's REALLY excelled himself this time, deciding to have the Queen o' the Mermaids + 'Arry (let's not forget he got M-o-M last time out) as a dynamic duo leading the charge - a gutsy choice - I'm lovin' it, lovin' it, lovin' it. And left wing for moi, with Chuff right behind me for the duration - yep, yep, that'll do nicely. I know he'll keep a close watch on my derrière (which the opposition tend to try to pinch rather a lot in an effort to put me off my stride) - TIA, babe. NB: Let it not escape everyone's attention that after a number of injuries both rosebuds are fully fit and back in the side….. if THAT isn't a good luck charm par excellence I don't know WTF is. Grrrrr! Let's show those seagulls who's boss.

I don't have an aquarium, but I've got a wildlife pond and a couple of raised fishponds, the second having been built because I couldn't get the original one enlarged in view of all its inhabitants, hence my saying to go as big as you can with an aquarium in the first place, because once you've got a pond/tank you always want it to be bigger! I know we're supposed to be talking about indoor tanks, but I hope this might be of interest to garden pond-ers, too. Sounds great Murphs. Mentioned it before, my outdoor wildlife pond is plagued/blessed with a family of water shrews. Seen one again a few times again this year, it's a generational thing now it seems, settled for the forseeable in my humble location. Lovely to see but they do play havoc with the tadpoles, newtlets {efts} and such. I've noticed a decline in ramshorns too, small ones seem to be a shrew starter. Always been loathe to put fish in the pond, tried to encourage spawn etc, but now I'm thinking I've lost that battle so may release the carp next spring, can't see the shrews bothering them. The water shrew, our only venomous mammal. " Small ones seem to be shrew starter!" (sorry, not laughing really.......) The shrews must think they're living at the Ritz. What a pity they eat the tadpoles/newts, though. Aren't you worried herons will take the fish if you put them in the pond, though, Cheesy? (I'm assuming you won't be netting it over if it's wildlife.....) I ask b/c everyone I know who has a pond has systematically lost their fish to herons.

Similarly, another birdfood company, GardenBird, have emailed folks with the heading 'Help your birds as cold weather threatens. Stock up with high-energy foods.' They then go on to stress the importance of providing garden water / birdbaths - this is a cut/paste: The importance of water over winterAccording to the RSPB, many people put out food for birds, but fewer provide a regular supply of clean water. Hydration is absolutely essential for any living animal; for birds over the winter months it is more so for the fact that natural supplies may be frozen. “It is a fact that most small birds must drink at least twice per day to replenish lost water.” Why is water so important? You may or may not know this, but birds do not have sweat glands, so in principle they require less water than mammals due to their ability to retain more water. However, this isn’t to say birds don’t lose any water. Of course they do, and it is mainly through respiration and droppings. Depending upon the specific dietary requirements of a bird, for instance one that eats mainly seeds, there may be a different level of rehydration needed. Despite this, most birds get the majority of their water from the food they eat, for instance grubs, caterpillars and earthworms. Winter bathingBathing can help garden birds keep their feathers in good condition. This process of dampening helps to release any dirt that gathered on and stuck to the feathers; cleaning makes it easier for birds to preen, which is critical for a bird because preening help to rearrange feathers in order to make them waterproof. Water, being as abundant as it is, can be taken from a variety of sources such as ponds, streams and even droplets that form on the end of leaves. In fact, this is particularly common among forest-dwelling birds. Preventing water from freezingBirds visiting gardens in search of alternative food supplies over winter may also be looking for a source of water. This you can provide by putting out a dish or, if you prefer, something more decorative like a bird bath. It is important to try to prevent water that gathers from freezing, as birds will not be able to easily access the supply. A variety of solutions are available, the most cost-effective of which being the use of a ping pong ball, which moves around in the water as the wind blows, preventing the water from freezing. In extreme cases of cold weather, this method may not work, and in such a scenario it is advisable to use a safe ice-free solution such as that made by ecOpond. Here's the www link if you want to have a closer look…….voice.gardenbird.co.uk/importance-water-winter/?utm_source=GardenBird+%28Main%29&utm_campaign

Superb Mary , I know you have a lot of experience, where am I ? Finished it for you Harry. Permittez-moi to correct this little matter - it's better if the truth comes out……… the actual full quote was GOING to be: "Superb Mary , I know you have a lot of experience in hanging round the docks in Portsmouth late at night, when the fleet's in."
- Then Harry phoned me and read it out and said 'Am I going too far, Murph?' and I said 'yes, mate, forget it, especially as it's only Tuesday'. The daft bat obviously didn't quite zap all the wording off……

Well done murph - it's been a while since the exclusive PFPF has had a public mention. I know we have our regular private meetings but it's about time the PFPF was given some publicity again ! PFPF eh? Well I'm with you in spirit as I adore pickles of all sorts but I can't partake myself. Allergic to cauliflower (and all other brassicas). Made a mighty fine veggie curry tonight. Split into into 2 pans for the last few minutes + stirred in some steamed cauliflower + broccoli into Mrs Q's pot. Well down very well. She returned to the pot for seconds which is always a great compliment. Yep, the PFPF - that's us. What a pity you can't eat pickles - there are some nice ones about, esp. the Italian sort - I get some from a place called Melrose and Appleton. Re. allergies, there's a newish 'allergy' thread.... Love the sound of the curry - I'm due to make another batch of chicken & vegetable curry anytime now - it includes 30 chicken thighs and loads of vegs including 2 x 1kg freezer bags of cauliflower - I usually like to make a stack of it & then have some in the freezer.

Mom*: HarryB, pipping Pearo to it with the goal, and the rating of 9. UIMS. Right, well, seeing as 'ow I got the big 'ook at 'alf time last time out I thought I'd explain why my performance was slightly under par --- it was all down to the opposition's sneaky, vile b*st*rd of a left-half….. Any time he got anywhere near he kept slyly trying to pinch my derrière. Normally I'd have sorted him out, but I knew he'd only have hit the deck holding his face and rolling over & over, and then I'd have got red carded and the team would have been reduced to 10. So I had to put up with it, but I ended up watching for him rather than watching for the ball. Really put me off my game. ' Ence the 'ook.

Thanks ! I've seen a couple of tours that include Colditz so I'll look into it a bit more now. Dees, if you're considering either or both of them, please send me a link/links and I'll have a look at them & tell you how they compare with the one I went on, which was really very good. Right, been doing a bit of homework on this for you but can only come back with a mixed bag of findings rather than a perfect solution - sorry! Couldn't remember which travel firm I went to Colditz with, so I looked through my pics - success! It was Travelsphere. I've had a look at their www but they now seem to offer only 3 tours to Germany, none of which, as far as I can tell, being comparable with the one I did, which was a pleasant sort-of 'general Germany' tour including Colditz & the Möhne lake trip + Möhne Dam and Harz Mountains + Steam Train trip --- worse still, they don't even seem to be featuring Colditz at all. But I could have misread it, so pls check their www if you feel so inclined. Don't know if you've heard of Leger? (Also don't know if a coach trip is what you want.....) Anyway, they've been a very big name in coach tours for many years so I had a look at their www - they have a lot of German tours - including many variations on the Xmas Market theme - but again nothing like the one I did. Re. Colditz, Leger do one tour featuring it, but it's very much a 'WWII theme' tour, so perhaps not too appealing for the ladies, as presumably Mrs Dees will be with you: www.leger.co.uk/battlefields/tours/colditz-dambusters-great-escape Re. the Harz Mountains / Steam Trains, Leger do a tour called ' Little Trains of the Harz Mountains': www.leger.co.uk/germany/tours/little-trains-of-the-harz-mountains
Bit of food for thought there. Sorry I couldn't find the same thing I went on for you, because it really was enormously enjoyable.

Broad beans, {quality} smoked bacon {with a bit of dip}, boiled {nice quality scrubbed} new potatoes, parsley sauce {made from a base roux, fresh parsley, nice milk and utterly nice butter etc. Might even grind a bit of Rosemary into it.} You've talked me into it. I've got a project for the weekend. I can knock up a decent white sauce to go with the cauliflower just a case of adding the parsley instead of cheese. {no pun intended}. Maybe a spot of cream to smooth things along. You ever had creamed leeks, Chuff? They're heavenly. Used to have them sometimes as part of a meal at a friend's house - his mother was a fantastic cook - all homey traditional S-o-T stuff, nothing fancy, but everything was always delish and the creamed leeks were top of the list. I keep meaning to try making them but have never got round to it yet. Got at least 2 or 3 recipes which are all very similar - one might be from Delia - I'll check later (/ pause / checked: no) - so maybe I'll have a go. This is where we need 'Arry's expertise to guide us with a precise recipe! Oh, come to think of it, I made sth I suppose is a bit similar called 'Leek Clafoutis' a few years ago and it was so amazingly delicious that for a day or two afterwards when the leftovers were in a dish in the fridge I literally couldn't keep my face out of them - the raids always started with a little teaspoonful or two as another 'genteel little taste', but then rapidly progressed to mouthfuls administered by way of a serving spoon. Clafoutis is a French recipe and is usually sweet, and traditionally made with unstoned cherries oven-baked in a sort-of egg batter - this leek dish (from memory) involved baking leeks in a yoghourt + fromage frais sauce, and I'm sure there was Stilton in it too, plus there might have been a tiny bit of parsely & some lemon juice, all of which might sound a bit bleugh but was unbelievably scrummy.

The new target of 9 portions of fruit and veg a day is a tough one. So tough that they're still referring to 5 a day because most people can't manage that and
You mean 9 fruits OR vegetables per day? Can't be 9 fruits. If I'd eaten 5 bananas, 1 mango, 2 blood oranges and 1 pear, that would be enough for my 24 hours. I couldn't have anything else that day then. If I count both vegetables and fruits per day I would say I'm somewhere in between 5 and 9 yes. I eat more carbohydrates than most people I know, potatoes, brown rice, quinoa and corn gluten free pasta plus the battery of beans, carrots etc. 2 fruits per day I'd say, and 3-7 vegetables. It depends on how you count. Cherry tomatoes? Blueberries? I do drink too little though. Especially water. 2-3 times a year. What about those eggs they bury for a year over there and then dig up and eat them?

INTERNAL MEMORANDUM Rumours of interest in Felonious from a Scottish outfit are unfounded. Northy has been persuaded not to take part in this years Superstars 18 reboot. Offers for Bath have been derisory, Clubs with more serious intentions have been put off by his particular personal demands thus far. Little interest shown in the disinterested vice captain Bojan Mackey. Talk of the new fishy dietary regime of certain squad members meaning the new Club Mascot is a Seal, balancing a ball etc, untrue. Last nights bench.
Could do with new recruits for back up and such.
Official Club statement re squad etc prior to the match-up at the weekend. Om. Boss! Boss! How about reinstating Bisp now that he's back in our midst??? Just sayin', like............ boss. And please keep me in the team. (**lick lick**) xxxxxxxxx

Yes indeedy. Now let's have a: << FITNESS UPDATE >>
OK, Pre-season Training going down a storm at the Chateau Murph Private Gym, Running Track & full-size pitch - I've been a good kiddie and am now working on my shooting accuracy/target & passing pinpointing. Sprints and quick turns have especially improved, and Rory calls in for an hour or two every other day so my throw-ins are now at least twice what they were and I'm confident will make you gasp. So I'm more than 'appy with progress. Have also been practising all the other necessary on-pitch stuff as well, eg. spitting. It's coming on quite well for a novice, so I think I'm getting the hang of it. Also been rehearsing what I always see players doing just before running on to the pitch, eg. quickly shoving my hand down the front of my shorts for a mo, and although I have no idea what it's all about it does fit the profile, so I've decided to keep it in the routine. Let battle commence.......... Very impressive murph ! Are you getting much distance with the spitting ? No mate, practically none at all, really. I keep making a right mess of my tops and the butler's getting fed up of all the extra washing and ironing. That guy could whinge for England. He doesn't know when he's well off.

The average life expectancy of a Spitfire pilot in the Battle of Britain was just 4 weeks ! What a frightening statistic that is. During the battle 544 RAF pilots were killed. For someone to join up at just 18 shows tremendous bravery, determination and patriotism and in my view Geoffrey Wellum and all of his fellow pilots were extremely brave young men who deserve our eternal gratitude. Being such a long time ago now, and several generations ago, it's too easy for people to forget their tremendous courage and bravery, and the ultimate sacrifice that so many of them sadly made. The same can be said for those who "went over the top" in WW1 and for many other combatants in battles and wars throughout history. We owe all these people a huge debt of gratitude and although their memory diminishes with time, their legacy and the difference they made affects who we are (individually and as a nation) and will do for ever. Very well said, both of you. This wonderful man should have been the reason Knighthoods were invented instead of them being given to 'pop stars', actors and bl**dy politicians.

Thinking EEFC should take on Cardiff's fixtures in the Prem this upcoming season. We'll play them last game of the season. {I think that's how it'd work}. Assault on the Prem with various variations of the 3. My preferred line-up: Bathstoke {Jack of Clubs} Northy {8 of Clubs} HarryB {2} Deeside {3} Felonious {4} Rogerjones{c}{7} Pearo {6} Chuffed {5} Murph {Ace of Clubs} Mermaidsal {10} Cheees {9}
Though I realise my spot in the starting line up is up for grabs. Need to recruit a competitive bench. Plenty of time for a pre-season friendly roll of the dice and turn of the cards still yet. Decent lineup that boss, can't wait. UTMEEFC. Dynamic, more like. Especially the attack..... Grrrrrrrrr......... let us AT 'EM.........

I ordered some whitebait once. Breaded Fish it said on the menu so I imagined something like a bowl of small fish fingers which, to my mind, was an ideal choice of starter. I realised my error when a bowl of 30, very lightly breadcrumbed sticklebacks arrived at our table, heads, tails the lot. Tasted like they’d been marinated in cod liver oil for 8 months aswell. Managed 4 or 5 then offered them around the table. Hardly surprising there were no other takers. Politely declined the rest with the excuse that I didn’t want to spoil my main course 😉 I could taste the little gits for days after... Little gits! Yep, I was thinking about whitebait earlier on when we were talking about eating all the bits, etc., but whitebait are so tiny and all completely covered in batter so it's not really noticeable. I had them for lunch at a London restaurant once...... and coincidentally I'm absolutely certain it was in 1976! I've always taken a keen interest in foody stuff, so before ordering the whitebait I fully knew exactly what they were, and how they'd be cooked & served, etc. - it was just when I was waiting to be served and actually thought about it (tiny heads, eyes and fins, scales, tails, etc.) that it became very much a case of quickly coming up with a silent mantra mentally convincing myself that all was well ( "ummmm..... just don't think about the eyes, ummmm..... don't think about the eyes, ummmm..... don't think about the eyes") to cope with them. However, I managed to eat them okay - and it was such a posh place I also didn't want to get glared at by looking at my lunch and promptly having hysterics - but I haven't had whitebait since and don't plan them for the future.

I can't remember seeing an owl that close in daylight before, it was 7:30ish. I've got an old open barn here at home and occasionally I see one flying out as I pull in with the car. I stopped as I got out of the car last night for a minute or so and watched the bats flying just above my head great viewing until the security light goes off
Actually, I did see them zapping about in your barn from the bottom of your driveway, Fel, and I thought they were birds. I'd have had hysterics if I'd known they were bats. I'm so relieved I didn't have time to go into your barn with you that time you asked me to when you said you wanted to show me your collection of interesting pebbles. Phew. That was a near thing.

Sounds like something tripped on acid man 🙂 (That's what I thought, Bathy) It's a bit like……. Big fleas have little fleas upon their backs to bite 'em, And little fleas have lesser fleas, and so, ad infinitum. And the great fleas, themselves, in turn, have greater fleas to go on; While these again have greater still, and greater still, and so on.
