Fuller, Lawrence. Whelan, Rory and Ryan could all have a bad game... But if we lose or draw it will be Cresswells fault!!!

Even when Cressie doen't play it's his fault! It's just got ridiculous, we always have to have a hate figure. I remember it was Paul Richardson, then Paul MacGuire.........., Bjarnie and now it's Crezzer. He is what we have, he will do his best, just get off the guy's back ffs. Pulis has proved that he knows what he is doing and if Pulis believes Cresswell is the right option and Cresswell gives all he can then that is good enough for me. In any case I fail to see what can possibly be gained by getting on the guy's back and all it does is help the opposition.

If Beattie was fit, who would be the hate figure that we would HAVE to have against Fulham? If you take your point about Pulis believing Cresswell to start is the right option to it's logical conclusion, then you are advocating an end to all discussion with regard to team selection on this message board! He's not being hounded out of the club, it's a few people on an internet discussion forum suggesting their preffered starting line ups for their clubs game on Satdee!

Sure, discussion is fair enough and even harsh banter is welcome and what the game is all about. But in the 35 years I have followed Stoke we do ALWAYS have a hate figure who are always blamed for anything going wrong even though it's not their fault.
Yeah, some who have been a victim of this phenomena have been have been dire, but whilst Cresser might be finding it hard to make the step up to the best league in the world, he has been money well spent (compared to others), he's served us well and has been an honest player.
I just think he has done enough to deserve some courtesy and respect.

boothenesque,
I accept your point, and it's well made.
I would however counter the argument by stating he gets paid over three quaters of a million pounds a year, and as far as i'm aware has done absolutely nothing to benefit the club this season, other than take the place of often more talented players.
I would never boo him, and know of nobody on here who would suggest it. All i have said is that there are much better alternatives to a man whose only positive attribute apears to be he runs around a lot.

I think with Higgy out we could see 3 central defenders and the return of the wing backs. pugh and Kelly as wing backs.

Tend to agree with Matt (above) - i don't think Fulham away will see us play a cavalier / attacking line up - esp w/out Beattie. That said, with no Higgy, we'd struggle to add ano solid CB.
Court is not on the radar - so will it be Sonko.
He'll do that for 60 - odd & see how we go.
Then Cresser on (whatever we think of that) or, if he has a rush of blood to the head, Henri.

Cressy has made a fair shilling in his 2 seasons here. If the details his agent gave in that court case are accurate, he's made over £1.7m already in less than 2 years here. I'm sure he'll realise taking a few jeers is par for the course in a football career. He'll always be respected for his effort, if nothing else.
Anyway, I'm sure the Cresswell 'thing' won't be an issue come the summer. And he can go and count his cash and we can get a proper forward in.

The 3 central defenders and wingbacks didnt work at Villa - TP held his hand up so doubt he will go back there again
With a rock pairing at central defense he wont risk it - Kelly has looked more than capable in the Wilko role and Pugh is dependable in the Higgy role
The only debate should be a 5 1 or 4 2 formation in the middle and up front
Again the 4 in the middle are working well together and know where each of the other is a lot more

Come on - He's not a 'hate figure' he's simply not good enough and shouldnt be playing in the Premier. I TOTALLY AGREE that any booing, negaitivity etc directed at him personally is WRONG - The lad does his best and its not his fault that his best isnt good enough.
Its also very unfortunate that Mama is out and Kitson is shit and thats just circumstance so at the end of the day given what has been acheived this season we should try and cut the guys some slack and support the team with the hope that the porblem will be addressed when we are 100% certain we are playing Premier League football next season.

I would rather Stoke play with 10 men than play with Cresswell.......... wait a minute, that's the same thing isnt it?, as totally useless as he is !!

I'm gutted about Beattie being out, not so bothered about higgy as we have far better back-up options at centre-back than up front. He'll probably play Cresswell or Camara, but I don't really rate either of them, so I wouldn't mind seeing us play with just Ricci up front and put an extra man either into the midfield or defence.

sorenson
kelly shawcross god/abd faye pugh/dicko
lawrence whelan olofinjana delap ethers
fuller
now push lawrence and ethers up and just wide of the box with olofinjana just behind and centre of lawrence same with delap to ethers and olofinjana in the middle all of them feeding to fuller its what fuller likes theres some really good passers there especially whelan atm to me that is the only way tone will play without the use of the certain cresswell.
or bring back ex juventes player vincent pericard fromn injury ;d

Nail on Head this hate figure conspiracy theory is nonsense....Fact is...he is a very average championship player who should not be in a premiership squad never mind the team, and fans have a right to be concerned when his name is even mentioned on a match day. Our season turned for the better when he was out of the equation and dipped when he was sniffing around the team.

Why is our own official site so poor a) The last in the world to tell us the injury news b) then they get it bloody wrong!! Have Beattie out with a hamstring!! when TP on radio Stoke stated thigh strain
Oh and TP also stated he couldnt see Camara and Fuller playing together - so that knocks half the formations on here on the head
Also sounded like he wasnt sure that Beattie would be fit for West Ham - lets hope so

news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/8014668.stmPulis seems to confirm it won't be a Fuller-Camara front 2 as "he's not so sure the two of them can play together as they're similar players". No surprise there. And they'll have a look at how Beattie is "at the end of next week". So sounds like it might be a multi-game absence?

Pugh has looked solid at LB any time he has been asked to play their and i would like to see Camara get a chance up front as well.
As for Cressie, i think he got a lot of unfair criticism and was made the scapgoat when we were having a poor run of form and he had a massive part to play in our promotion but the fact of the matter is that he is nowhere ner good enough to play Prem football. He gives 110% but in the Prem that simply isnt enough and he hasnt got the ability. He would be a great signing for a Champ team but he should be nowhere near a Prem squad

Got back from Stoke later that afternoon and hard to cover my Stoke up. Was wearing it about THREE weeks later and some bloke in a shop informs me it was the "wrong time and place to wear it." Twat Still- Gary Parker's goal in 1996 haunted me until that day so all good
